Default Rel Band, Cheer, Or Drill Not Going To Ohio

Band and Drill Teams Not Going To Ohio.
The meeting was held in the Band Hall at 6:30 p.m. Monday. It included a board member, the principle, the head of Fine Arts at TISD, sponsors of Lee organizations, and a few parents. There was a discussion as to whether TISD should focus its efforts on getting the band, drill teams, and cheerleaders to Ohio for the football game in September. However, after an hour of discussion, the majority voted down the idea of pursuing this effort. There is need for about $100,000 which is quite a bit to ask of local sponsors, and supporters. However there was concern that by focusing on raising money for this trip that once this amount was raised, if raised, that when these organizations needed money later in the year, there would no longer be anymore in the community. However, they left the option open for later if there ever arose a large sponsor, or options to drastically reduce the costs of such a trip. Hopefully, for the opportunity of sending these organizations to represent not only our school, or our school district, or our city, but the State of Texas, that the fans of the Raiders will continue to support all these organizations. This was also an all or nothing agreement. No single organization would attempt to raise funds for a trip to Ohio unless all organizations decided to raise funds. However, the option was left open that if a single organization received a large donation in the range needed to travel to Ohio, then that organization by all means should go. There was great disappointment to the idea that the Raiders would play a game without the support of the varies organizations but considering the time constraint, limited fundraisers, and considerable uncertainty as to the success, the agreement was finally reached. Hopefully by some means of luck and good fortune, and maybe hard work, there arises a corporation that would assist, as well as a surge in the Raider fan base at the release of this news.

Believe it or not but you can have a football game without the Band,Drill team,Cheerleaders,Pep Squad, and other ogranizations such as those. If these kids really wanted to make the trip along with the team then why aren't they out in the community trying to raise the money. There are a number of things they could have done to raise the money. They could have done bake sales, sold raffle tickets for some item, had a car wash or two. If they really wanted to be there they would have done what ever neccessary to get there.

If there is a will, there is a way.

Too many people just want handouts, errr, uggghhh, Donation$. If you want something-go out and get it. If you want money, go out and earn it.

i know that most likely if lufkin band, cheerleaders, pep squad ,etc. were in this situation, they would be having fundraisers and maybe a few donations here and there. but, they would have a lot of fundraisers because they have before.

big daddy, is your quotation a play on words, or a misspelling? i'm for both, but the calvary holds a higher position in todays situations than anything horse drawn.

Don't know for sure. Heard that said by Ted Nugent when he was here for the big NRA show last month.

I agree with some people on hand outs, I remember at temple high every 4 years the band took a trip to Disney world during spring break and stayed the week, when ever the temple high band went to Disney world my freshmen year (I lucked out and didn't have to wait 4 years like the up coming freshmen ) I want to say we had the same amount of time that the raiders organization did to raise the money the only difference was that there were certain students that received fundraising donations and those were the true misfortunate kids talking about the ones that didn't have it as well as others but the majority of us worked for it, some of us had our parents pay for it but majority of the jobs allowed the kids to go work for them to souley pay off there trip I think some of the jobs around Tyler should allow the kids the same thing just work to pay for the trip it doesn't take but a month to do it maybe even less they could do it over the summer easily.

And another question doesn't the Ohio game fall on the time during the season were report cards come out and not every one of the drill team members and band members is sure to pass though, those cheer leaders all seem to find a way... So wouldn't you have to also estimate the ones that do fail and estimate a smaller number of drill team members and band members going, thus making it some what cheaper? I mean total how many participants do they have in the band and drill squad hopefully not as much as temple's band alone is almost 200 kids.

Bands are not vital to a football game being played (although some Allen fans might disagree ), but the certainly do add to the overall atmosphere and excitment of the game. High school football is more than just a game - it's an event. The bands, drill teams, cheerleaders, mascots, spirit gaurds, and all the other organizations that participate help to make it the spectacle that it is. Without them, the football would still be awesome, but the atmosphere seems emptier and less exciting, sort of like a JV game. I think that is why some people really hoped the Lee band could make the trip. Either way, I know I'll watch the game and pull for the Radiers to represent Texas well.

I think it is important for them to go for the simple fact that the game is in Ohio and not that many fans are going to be able to make it. True, there will be fans there, but not as many as would be if the game were in Texas. If the band and drill team, and whoever else, goes then that will add to the fan base because they will be there, plus some of their parents would go too.

I think that they have more than enough time to have fundraisers because they have all summer to do things. They don't have to worry about school, the only thing is if some students have jobs. But even then, Tyler isn't that big, and I am sure that some companies would be willing to let them work less time to attend fundraising events.

just a thought, if texas is playing the next day their band and stuff should be there (ohio) the day before the game. maybe some of you longhorn fans could drop a hint and maybe the texas band (and cheerleaders) could go an do something. maybe not march at halftime, but just be there to play in the stands. please don't yell at me. it's just a thought. the mom in me is always thinking of ways to get things done.
