I haven't been around much in the last 2 months. Busy with school and other things. So can you tell me more about why this is being proposed? My dad graduated from Sam Houston in 1962.

Sam is on a long losing streak....getting blown out....they suit up maybe...MAYBE 20 players....for 5A football that is unheard of, those kids work hard and are deticated and we all decided to show up and support them.

As soon as the schedules are set up, I'll see if I can go.

Why not? It'd be nice to travel to Houston again for football. Gotta show some support for Houston Sam Houston High!

The one obvious contender that could probably use some fan support among 5A schools is:

Paschal High of Fort Worth (currently in the midst of a 26 game losing streak - 2nd longest in 5A behind Sam Houston's 32) - one of only 8 high schools in the state that has fielded a varsity football team and competed in the largest existing classification ALL 88 seasons since the playoff system began in 1920.

Not 5A, but inner city schools that are struggling:

Austin Johnston - 4A, but currently has the state's longest losing streak at 41. Had to cancel one game in 2007 because they didn't have enough players to field a team.

Austin Statesman article about Johnston 10/13/07

San Antonio Memorial - Also 4A, but currently in the midst of a 21 game losing streak, with 11 of those losses being shutouts.

5A Teams that went winless in 2007 include: Houston Sam Houston, Dallas Sunset, San Antonio Highlands, Carrollton R.L. Turner, Eagle Pass Winn, Ft Worth Paschal, Richardson, Edinburg, Arlington Sam Houston, Alvin, Irving Nimitz

Teams for which the incoming Senior classes would probably give anything to see an improvement over the past 3 seasons would be:

(5A programs with the fewest wins over the past 3 seasons)

1. Houston Sam Houston 0-30
2t. Fort Worth Paschal 2-28
2t. Carrollton Turner 2-28
2t. Richardson 2-28
5. Arlington Sam Houston 2-27
6. Dallas Sunset 3-27
7. Cypress Springs 4-26
8. Fort Bend Bush 4-25
9t. San Antonio Highlands 5-25
9t. Houston Northbrook 5-25
9t. Brownsville Hanna 5-25
9t. Klein Collins 5-25
9t. Houston Spring Woods 5-25
14. Alvin 6-25
15t. Carrollton Newman Smith 6-24
15t. Austin Akins 6-24
15t. Granbury 6-24
15t. San Antonio Holmes 6-24
15t. Laredo LBJ 6-24
15t. San Antonio Lee 6-24
15t. Brownsville Porter 6-24
15t. Grand Prairie 6-24
15t. Magnolia 6-24

Since they had so much success in the early 20th century, it would be cool if we could get a tour or their trophy case before the game.

There will most likely be a Katy group. You can join us!

One of the radio morning shows adopted Sam. They didn't do much more than report the scores, but they did offer them some support.

I dunno, if you're talking about The Buzz, they sounded REALLY sarcastic when they reported the scores... I just assumed they were poking fun at the team. But hey- I guess it adds to the awareness!

You couldn't just go to one game, though. It'd be better to get groups to go to as many games as possible. That way they have consistent support. I think that'd be cool.

I grew up in HISD and NO, Don't make it a Dyer Night - this was built for Junior High Night. Even in my Junior High Ninth grade years, we considered Dyer a slam. If Houston Sam Houston is to consider a legimate game, I would suggest Delmar. They last won a game against Houston Stephen F. Austin Mustangs. Let's wait til the schedule's are out
