    Default AAS Pre-Season All-Centex Team

Includes players from ALL classes, though. Not just 5A.

QB - Baker Mayfield, Lake Travis
    RB - Samaje Perine, Hendrickson
    RB - Adrian Dilworth, Pflugerville
    WR - Randon Knotts, LBJ
WR - Zach Austin, Lake Travis
WR - Isaiah Jones, Austin High
OL - Hunter Siddons, Lake Travis
OL - Jackson Hoskins, Dripping Springs
OL - Riley Mayfield, Cedar Park
    OL - Reed Darragh, Hays
OL - Kyle Wurzel, St. Michael's

    DL - Tanner Thrift, Hutto
    DL - Michael Epley, Leander
    DL - Mason Hargreaves, Vandegrift
    LB - Alden Mann, Wimberly
LB - Marcos Curry, Stony Point
    LB - Paul Whitmill, Bastrop
    LB - Michael Egwuagu, Connally
    DB - Antwuan Davis, Bastrop
    DB - Brad Watson, Westwood
    DB - Daryl Brooks, Leander
    DB - Jeffrey Williams, LBJ
    DB - Dontae Harris, Bowie*

    K - Colin McGuire, Westwood
    P - Wesley Louis, Rouse

*Harris "was honored as a utility player."
So he's the 12th man on the defense.

Wow..nobody from District 8-5A on that? Looks more an all-Austin area team.

Yes, it's from the Austin American Statesman newspaper.

I'm sorry, I should have made it more clear.

Having spent most of my life between Austin and Waco, I'm very aware that both areas refer to themselves as "Central Texas" and it does get kind of confusing.

But no. No district 8. Most Austinites consider CenTex to be between Williamson and Hays counties.

I honestly can't believe NOBODY from Westlake made the list.

At the least, Michael Barden is probably the best kicker in the ATX.

I can't believe that Shaun Nixon did not make the list. That is kind of funny. Also, not one player on the LT defense made the list. I think LT will have the best defense in Central Texas this year.

    LtCav83,

I politely disagree. I think Leander will have the best defense in Central Texas this year. 9 out of 11 returning from an already stellar defense. Epley, only a junior already has FBS attention. 3 starters have started since their sophomore year. Secondary and LB unit will be amongst the best or best in the area. D-Line probably not the top but rounding out the best. That being said maybe I shouldn't make that assessment, I don't know much about Lake Travis D.

That's understandable Cross, let me introduce you to the best 4A defense in the state for the last 2 and maybe 4 years.

    Crossblue,

Sounds like a stout defense for Leander. Always lots of good players coming thru there. If they put both sides of the ball together, they will be awfully dangerous.

It is usually referred to as Super CenTex when it includes areas outside Greater Austin. The AAS usually just includes areas within its delivery area.

I wish the Austin area media would take our teams on( 8-5A). I love all the talk before football season starts, that the Austin area teams get. We get squat for coverage. I love the Friday night fanstand. Inviting the area teams in to talk about the upcoming season. That is cool. We get no coverage.

    Buff,

My man. Hope you had a good offseason and are gearing up for another LONG year. Wouldn't it be great if the preseason mags are right and Steele and LT played in the state finals!

I am not sure that my heart can take it again, though. I think that Steele has a great chance to make it again. Gotta fight thru SV and a couple of others in Region 4 and then take care of Region 3. Steele will certainly have the best pair of safeties in the state. I am hearing that Huhn's stock is going thru the roof. I think the defense for Steele will be nasty as usual.

If they get a good trigger man on offense, the offense will be very solid as well. Should be fun for you guys.

The new LT field looks great. It is a little LOUD with the colors but I guess the five time champs can have whatever field they want, right?

That's the hazard of living in the 254.

You guys will probably start getting decent coverage in the next few seasons. In my experience, the Waco/Temple/Killeen area is usually only about 4-6 years behind everyone else.

Yeah. I mean... to the rest of the state, Waco/Temple/Killeen area is "Super CenTex" basically. But that area calls itself just "Central Texas" just the same as we do.

Like how there are lots of different areas that call themselves "The Heart of Texas."

I wish I could agree but I think the LT defense is the BIG question mark this year. A few good ones coming back but lots of holes to fill.
