Default So...I shift my car into drive and, it will not move.

I can shift into all gears, with no problem whatsoever but, the damn thing just won't move. I drove to the store this morning, and all day yesterday and, there was no slippage in the transmission at all.

Can someone tell me what the deal is?

    Manual or automatic?
Sounds like the clutch is shot off the top of my head.

Will it shift out of park?
If not, shift linkage is probably off, that would be the good news. I am assuming it is an automatic? I had a Volvo S80 where I had to open the hood and get a broomstick, push down on the linkage and then it would go. Tow-truck driver showed me the trick.

Otherwise, that is automatic clutch stuff which is crazy expensive usually a rebuild of the tranny. What kind of car? There is one Mercedes where the wall between the tranny cooling and the coolant cooling would fail, getting coolant into the tranny. Bad news, and Mercedes does not automatically fix. In fact, they are jerks about it.

Since Standards don't have a "Drive", Is it okay to assume it's an automatic?

You also mention that you "shift into all gears..." Does this include reverse?

Does it feel the same as it always has, when you shift? OR, does it feel easier or harder to move the shifter?

IF the gear selector movement feels the same as it always has to you, it could be expensive.

When you went out to recheck the car, was it sitting up on blocks with the tires and hood missing? If so, you may have a real problem.

If it's a smart car, follow the below steps:
    1. Let car sit until exhaust cool.
    2. Put car in park with emergency brake on.
    3. Pick up car.
    4. Carry to the nearest mechanic.
    Modified instructions if necessary:
    1. Follow Steps 1-3, but put in truck bed and drive it there.

Apparently, his car has left him stranded where he can not access the knowledge base that is 5aTexasfootball.com........

If not something simple (broken/loose shift linkage), I'm going to go with a front pump issue, or broken output shaft.
