Not many teams can lose key players and maintain the level of play that Katy did last year. I think you will see a hungry team this year that is out to prove a point.

I'm not impressed with what I see on paper compared to past years. Ultimately, overall strength will be determined by how teams develop during the season. I honestly can't point to one program right now and guarantee they'll be in the mix for a region championship. Preseason rankings could be pretty harsh for R3.

As far as not being sold on La Porte, the team that's been standing in the way for the last few years has been Katy. I think all can recognize their accomplishments. If you don't move past them, you're an afterthought. It doesn't make your team a loser. It means you lost to a multiple State Championship team that happens to be in your Region.

Dekaney is a question mark, as someone else mentioned. Ten is a fair place to start for a defending champion, who lost their star, but MAY be more than a one man show.

I agree Pearland was an oversight, they should be somewhere in top three.

I see no reason Pearland shouldn't be undefeated in Week 11. They're playing in 22-5A. Pearland will be ranked highly by the time all's said and done. Nothing like an 11-0 record to turn heads.

Pearland vs Manvel will be the key matchup in 22-5A. Ultimately I would take Pearland over Manvel but I wouldn't count them out yet.

I'm kind of shocked to see Dekaney that low after winning the title last year. I also read a comment about Manvel being a bit high but if they keep building on what they've done so far, they could be that good. I do believe they were as good as anybody in R3 5a last year and think that they would have beaten PAM as well to win the region in D2. As far as Katy being ranked #1, why wouldn't they be when they've accomplished what they have the last 20 years? Basically, they are the team to beat EVERY year!

Not knowing who would be 11-20, I am not concerned about PLand not being in the 1-10. I think Dekaney may be a little to high, but who knows. I take the pre-season stuff like water on a ducks back. It makes for good talk, but that's it.

Pearland vs Manvel is in week 11 (Friday Nov. 2) at The Rig. This will be a war, and the winner will be the District Champ. I saw Manvel play twice last year, once in week 3 (I think) and late (like week 10). They were as good or better than many, many 5A teams. 22-5A will have Pland and Manvel as the top seeds in D1 and D2, no matter the district champ.

No predictions but I'm excited to see how Clear Springs will match-up in the preseason to all these Top 10 GHA teams or teams that should be in the GHA Top 10. When preseaon is over they will be ready for the playoffs.

Seriously, there's no one I'd single out right now. Normally, you have 3-5 teams you have a pretty good idea about, but that's not the case this year.

This was preseason thread. 13-5A is one of the top 2 toughest districts in the state in 5A from top to bottom IMHO. Any team could compete. I'm just not as familiar. I see no standouts in 13-5A any more than any other. Y'all are basically 50-50 against 21-5A.

katy won the reg 3 championship in 94, 97, 98, 99, 00, 02, 03, 05, 07, 08 and 09
they were also in the reg 3 finals and lost several times as well.

i'll take katy as the pre-season to win the reg 3 championship...

To your second, I don't know.
To your third, LP is 1-2 against Katy in the last 4 years. Interesting it's a fluke when someone else wins...
To your 4th, the score is remembered well. The loss was against a district mate. Katy wasn't there.
To your 5th--0. (But, you can go to another thread and view LP's PO history.)
To the rest, I'd take Katy as one of the 2 or 3 favorites for R3. I'm not sure if they'll be D1 or 2 at this time.
To your last...I'd say we will hopefully be seeing each other again. It seems to have become a habit. How often do you see the same team in the Regionals this often??? I'd say both teams were doing something right...
