Default Thoughts/Pics from Allen vs. Marcus

All too often, big games don't live up to the hype. Not so in this case, this was Texas high school football at its best. Two great teams throwing hay-makers all night long! Allen mostly through the air, Marcus mostly on the ground.

Both very effective at what they do. Both teams giving second and third effort all night long. Can anyone in the state guard Andrew Rodriguez? He doesn't look like anything special but all he does is get open and make plays.

Allen's run defense has to be troubling to the coaching staff. Marcus had three players go over 100 yards on the ground. With all the big plays, it was interesting that the story of the game came down to a measurement for both teams.

Marcus went for it late in the game on 4th and 1 and came up just short. Allen went for it on 4th and 1 with under a minute left and just made it. The last drive was the thing legends are made of, Alec Morris showed he can handle the pressure.

Very impressed with both teams, this game will serve each of them well in preparation for the playoffs.

Here's some pics from the game, hats off to both these teams and their fans

Awesome stuff! If Allen makes it to the title game, there will be no doubt that they've had the toughest road of any recent Title contender in THSFB history. Recent meaning "in the past 20 years". Cedar Hill, Longview, FM Marcus, Plano, PWEST, PESH, Hebron, JNW, FM... and then (most likely) Euless Trinity, Martin, SLC, Desoto or Skyline, and Cy Fair or SA Wagner or Harlingen or Judson or Cy Falls. Unreal! Congrats on the win, tonight, Eagles! Hats off to FMM... superb team that should go FAR in the playoffs!

Games like that one are what keep us coming back for more, right? You'd be hard-pressed to find a playoff game that was better than the action and atmosphere of last night.

A couple more thoughts on this game.

In light of the other thread that's talking about "what's wrong with Allen", I think looks can sometimes be deceiving. Everyone wants the number 1 team to dominate but this is Texas remember?

There are so many good teams and Marcus certainly falls into that category. There were 3 plays that could have made the final outcome look very different.

    1) The interception that Marcus had at the goal line. They turned around and went 96 yards to score a td. That's a 14 point swing right there.

    2) The td pass to Rodriguez that was called back due to holding. There's holding on every play but this one cost them.

    3) The pass to Rodriguez in the back of the endzone that was inches from being a touchdown. He didn't quite get his feet in-bounds but that could have easily been 7 more.

No doubt Allen has some flaws but every team does. They were remarkably close to winning this game by 17-21 points. At the end of the day, the differential doesn't really matter. Being ranked #1 is a no-win situation. Win big and everyone says that's what's supposed to happen. Win by a little and everyone starts wondering what's wrong.

That's not giving the game the respect that it deserves. Having said all that, I do wonder how healthy Jonathon Williams is. He doesn't seem right and I think the coaches are putting more of the workload on Morris.

It will be interesting to see how the team closes out the season.
