    Default Scoring Leaders - AOS, ADS, DOM, PPG, PAPG (10/22)

    *Updated through Week 8 games

    Here's the next update of our weekly adjusted offensive scoring (AOS), adjusted defensive scoring (ADS), dominance (DOM), points per game (PPG) and points against per game (PAPG) statistics.

    Scoring Leaders

    Adjusted Offensive Scoring (AOS) – A 5ATexasFootball.com statistic that measures each team’s scoring ability relative to their opponent’s defensive strength. Points scored per game with current strength of schedule factored in.

    Top 5 Adjusted Offensive Scoring


    1. Harlingen: + 25.0
    2. Abilene : + 21.6
    3. Katy: + 21.3
    4. Laredo United: + 20.8
    5. DeSoto: + 20.3


    Adjusted Defensive Scoring (ADS) – A 5ATexasFootball.com statistic that measures each team’s defensive ability relative to their opponent’s offensive strength. Points against per game with current strength of schedule factored in.

    Top 5 Adjusted Defensive Scoring


    1. Dallas Skyline : - 20.6
    2. Cy Fair : - 19.3
    3. Midland Lee: - 18.4
    4. Katy: - 17.1
    5. Houston Lamar: - 14.8



    Team Dominance (DOM)
    – A 5ATexasFootball.com statistic that measures how dominant each team has been through the current week. We combine the AOS and ADS statistics to produce an overall dominance rating.

    2. Katy : + 38.5
    3. Harlingen: + 36.8
    4. Laredo United: + 33.1
    5. DeSoto: + 28.3

    Katy's ADS has gone down the last couple of weeks and will do so again this week. If the other team's offense averages less than your ADS - even holding them to zero points lowers your ADS.

    Yup...hence the SOS component that factors in. It's not perfect though with the El Paso/Valley/other areas who don't play games, nor do their opponents opponents, outside of their areas.

    We are currently putting the finishing touches on a system that adjusts for that and are hoping to have it ready for the playoffs. It takes into account every game in the last five years to further adjust/correct the numbers to hopefully produce a more accurate result between the different regions.

    As far as the current system, as long as you know and understand it's shortcomings, there's still a lot of good information to be had from it.
