I agree JT will be a top 5 ranked team. JT finished top 8 in 4A this year and have the majority of their team returning. If they keep Longview, Lufkin, and Lee on their schedule it could be a short lived ranking.

Some of us have a good idea of what JT is bring back, but who does Corsicana have coming back?

This will be the first district game for both teams, and it is on cana home turf.

any thoughts on this game that could Decide district?

This has been a heated game every year. No matter how has the better record. John Tyler is bring back there whole teams just about. Lee has a new coach that is trying to make a name for himself in Tyler. The best way for him to do that is to be JT. Can he do it?

There are many more moving parts in the Conroe ISD than in other school districts because there are so many people involved in the selection process.

But, I can assure you, Danny Long is a smart man for contacting Rush. And, if you're a John Tyler fan and Derek gets the job, you should thank him and wish him well. He did a great job in stabilizing that program.

In a story we first reported last week on Smoaky.com, John Tyler head football coach Dereck Rush was in Conroe to interview for the opening at Oak Ridge High School.

It's simple math, former Tyler ISD athletic director Danny Long is the athletic director at Conroe ISD, and he hired Rush to rejuvenate the John Tyler football program.

Rush did just that in his 5-years at John Tyler, compiling a record of 42-23, including 35-8 the past three seasons.

According to Carl Padilla at Padilla Poll, Rush will be recommended as the new head coach at Oak Ridge on Tuesday.

I just updated the storyline at the top of the thread, he informed his team this afternoon that he's leaving, per school board approval.

There's one thing I learned from an old friend of mine, when you take a job and if you leave, for whatever reason, did you leave the job or company in better shape than when you arrived.

There's no doubt Dereck Rush has done that at John Tyler.

I can't remember the last time both John Tyler and Robert E. Lee changed coaches in the same off-season.

Well I went out to watch JT in their first, official day of spring work-outs and I came away VERY enthused and HIGHLY optimistic. Greg Ward looks GREAT and will be a ABSOLUTE terror! The kid has grown and in great shape. Last year JT only had 7 TOTAL offensive linemen last year on varisty, but this year they have between 12 to 14 now. JT's O will be very strong again(when you have an all american QB and all-state WRs then you should be. This was Ricklan Holmes first practice as head coach. I am hearing from unofficial sources he will be named JT's head football coach by weeks end. JT's back 7 will be MUCH improved from last year IMO. The lbs are really going to be a huge factor in a positive way. The O started off alittle inconsistent but will get their timing back in no time. The biggest thing for JT is getting more consistent at stopping the run. If they can improve just 50% in that area they will be excellent in the coming season. I know losing Rush is a negative but we will overcome with no doubt in my mind. Get ready JT fans this team will be VERY exciting to watch!

Smoaky.com has learned that Tyler I.S.D. interviewed four candidates to become the new head football coach at John Tyler High School on Thursday.

The four candidates include:

*Ricklan Holmes, Interim Head Coach (Secondary Coach)

*Paul Frye, Interim Offensive Coordinator

*Jay Brown,Defensive Coordinator, Henderson H.S.

*Kendrick Brown, Defensive Coordinator, DeSoto H.S.

Holmes and Brown both played high school football at John Tyler, Jay Brown was once an assistant coach at John Tyler, and was the head coach at Texas College and he's a native of Jacksonville and attended Stephen F. Austin State University. Meanwhile, Frye has been as assistant coach at John Tyler for four years. He was once the head coach at Arp and Alba-Golden and an assistant coach at Tyler Lee.

Kendrick Brown has been an assistant coach at Lancaster, Dallas Hillcrest, Lewisville Hebron, Arlington Seguin (Defensive Coordinator) and DeSoto (Defensive Coordinator).

Smoaky.com learned T.I.S.D. was expected to interview five candidates, but one of them withdrew his name from consideration before the interview process began. Superintendent Randy Reid, Athletic Director Rod Kaspar and John Tyler Principal Shon Joseph interviewed the candidates. And, Jeff Collum, Executive Director of Secondary Education wasn't able to attend the interviews, and he's leaving for a Superintendent's job Benton, Arkansas.

John Tyler is looking to replace Dereck Rush, who left for the head coaching job at Oak Ridge High School in Conroe.

Look for Tyler I.S.D. to move very quickly with this hire, and in fact, they might have finalist by Friday and recommend a name to the school board as early as Monday, May 7th.

I think DCTFM jobbed Fred Ross. Anything outside first team something is an injustice to this kid. Certainly one of the more versitile players I have seen with that kind of speed.

I'll be honest I'm a little nervous for my Panthers to have to play JT right out the gate, but it should be fun to watch as long as JT does not score two tds out the gate again before I sit down.
