Default Awesome Event in B/CS this weekend

Check out this lineup of guests for the 20 year commemoration of Desert Shield/Storm.

    President George H.W. Bush
Dick Cheney, Fmr. Vice-President, Fmr. Secretary of Defense
    Dan Quayle, Fmr. Vice President
James Baker, Fmr. Secretary of State
Gen. Colin Powell, Fmr. Secretary of State, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs
LtGen Brent Scowcroft, Fmr. National Security Advisor
Gen. Walter Boomer, commander of Marines in the 1st Gulf War
Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Amir of Kuwait
Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salim Al-Sabah, Minister of Foreign Affairs for Kuwait

Those of you in or around B/CS should contact the MSC Box Office for free tickets. I was involved in the very early planning of this before I left my old job at the university, and it should be a great one.

GHWB looks terrible. They brought him in under the cover of darkness while they screened a video, my guess was to conceal the fact that he had a walker, and then had two Corps members help him off the stage as other dignitaries entered. Good job concealing his poor health, but it's too obvious now to really conceal.

He did look better than at the Rangers WS game, though.

Talk was interesting. HW spoke, Quayle spoke, the Kuwaiti envoy spoke, then Powell, Cheney, Baker, Scowcroff, Boomer and Baker spoke, I was disappointed to not see Schwarzkopf there, but apparently his health is also failing.

Format was a moderated discussion between the 6, spanning topics such as the diplomatic buildup to the war and the military restructuring prior to the war, which was tested for the first time with Desert Storm/Shield.

    Good event.

Mad props for being old, I guess. Doesn't change the fact that he looks bad. Even for 87, IMO

Pre-event interview with the foreign policy team. This is the Presidential Dining Room at the Presidential Conference Center....brings back many good memories for 'Bird...

Pretty awesome that NBC nightly showed up.
