    Default District 25-5A

    It starts this Friday.
What do you think will happen after seeing the teams play thus far.

I'm sure that we all agree that Judson, Wagner, Steele, and New Braunfels will more than likely be the teams to make the playoffs.

    What do you think?

I think we are going to see some very good football games between the teams you listed above! I honestly think that the district champ will likely have 1 loss in the process. I think all four teams are very equally matched and all the matchups will depend on who is more prepared, makes the fewest mistakes, and capitalizes on the other's mistakes.

I honestly would not want to bet any money on who will end up as the district champion but if I'd have to, I think I'd bet 1/2 of it on Judson and the other 1/2 on NB. NB has great coaching and kids that respond to it and go all out for 48 minutes. Judson just flat out knows how to win big games and I'd never count them out of anything until they are hanging their pads up for the season and heading to the hardwood! Wagner is dangerous and is probably the fastest team in the district and Steele probably has the most gifted athletes this year.

Like I said, it is a complete tossup!

Being a homer I'll have to take Steele of course but would be a little shocked if they pull it off as they have not been playing good football at all this year. The pieces are there but it still remains to be seen if they get their act together on the O-line and can quit making so many stupid mistakes! 23 penalties last week alone!!!! ANd of the 23, I'd say 18 of them were on the offense for illegal motions and procedure calls!!!! HORRIBLY BAD

I know playoffs are a long way away but, assuming that New Braunfels, Judson, Steele, and Wagner make the playoffs, who would be D1 and D2?

I would think it would be a no brainer with Judson and Wagner D1 and New Braunfels and Steele at D2. Due to the later being moved up to 5a just recently.

    You are correct

    D1 - Conv Judson & SA Wagner
    D2 - NB & Cib Steele

unless Seguin or San Marcos can somehow get in the mix.. then NB or Steele would go D1

These are the enrollment numbers 25-5 will use through the year 2012:

    Cibolo Steele
    2131

    Converse Judson
    3091

    New Braunfels
    2252

    San Antonio Wagner
    2498

    San Marcos
    2086

    Seguin 2092

Playoff rules state the Top 4 teams at the end of district play go to the playoffs. The two teams with the larger enrollment go to D1, and the lower two enrollment go to D2. So based on your numbers, Judson and Wagner will always play D1 if the make the playoffs, The only way Steele or NB would ever play D1 is if Seguin or San Marcos made the playoffs, and Wagner or Judson did not.

I still think it kinda sucks that 4 teams make the playoffs and 2 don't.

You could have 4 losses in district and get in.

You could honestly go 2-8 and make playoffs. Just win two district games and you're more than likely in.

Judson will always go D1 though.
    D1 isn't D1 without them haha

I also look for this to be a pretty competitive basketball district as well.

Judson and Wagner battled to go to state last year and to years ago Wagner went and Judson slipped up against Southwest to get knocked out before the Region 4 game where, the way they were playing, they would have rolled over Wagner in my opinion.

I guess that's the advantage of having a district with only six teams. The big losers in 25-5 are Seguin and San Marcos. Unless they find some way to come up with some big recruitments, it's doubtful they'll ever get to play in the playoffs (at least in football).

Look at the flip side of being in a larger district. 27-5 (NISD) has NINE teams. You probably won't know which four teams will make the playoffs, and in some cases which division they'll play in, until the last game of the season.

OK so it is a bye week for everyone but San Marcos so we have two weeks to talk about the first district games for each team.

    Seguin vs. Steele
    San Marcos vs. New Braunfels
    Judson vs. Wagner

    My pics:

    Steele
    New Braunfels
    Judson

    You heard it here first

That is kinda weird but somehow they always have it towards the beggining of district. Or at least when Judson and Wagner were in 27-5a. Can't really remember back to the 26-5a days.

the 26-5A days were 2 years for Wagner and they played towards the middle of the season. I think Judson played them after Madison on Wagner's first year. Look for Priest Holmes to be there again. He signed the program with a picture I took on it. Nice guy.

The second ever Hammer Bowl I believe had a nice fly over and parachute people land on the field

With that many teams in 27, it will be easier for coaches to keep the players motivated because of the possibility of making playoffs. Players will improve individually, and teams will come together.

Predictions for 25 NB, Steele, Judson, Wagner.

First week scores for the district.

    Steele-46
    Seguin-6

    New Braunfels-56
    San Marcos-14

    Judson-38
    Wagner-23

Judson wins there first of three tough district games. NB and Steele take care of business against the weaker teams in the district.

I'll never forget what long-time UH Coach Bill Yeoman said after UT cleaned the Cougars' clock to the tune of 50-0 in 1982
"In this business there are W's and there are L's......This is an L"
And a mighty big one, too.

I'm just hoping the Rockets won't have to fall back on this minimal kind of consolation any time soon.
