South Texas Flood of 98'

I have lived in Lake McQueeney all of my pre college life (including during the flood) and that brought back a ton of great memories.

I remember how scared we all were as the water kept rising closer and closer to are house... it eventually made it into our front yard (our house is on a hill) and up pretty close. Most of our neighbors were hit bad.

We stayed at a holliday inn (got one of the last rooms in town) for a few days and despite all of the nastiness, it was just exciting (being 10 and not understanding the financial burden, it was easier to be excited) witnessing everything. Houses floating down the river, boats, jet skis, furniture, everything. It was pretty cool listening to the news every night and hearing school had been canceled again. haha. And then the after math damnage was something else. But all in all, it is one of my favorite times I can remember.

I remember going to the Senior barbeque for the Judson football team to some park near Seguin. I can't remember the name of it, I just remember it was like on an island, and the river went around it. Anyways, there was this pole in the middle with marks on it showing the water level on the island during notorious floods. each mark was around 3 to 6 ft. high, and i remember thinkinging, where's the one from '98? Then i looked up, and i saw it about, by my guess, 12 feet off the ground. And i was like, Daaaaamn.

It tore up the south side of Victoria too.

It almost completely covered my old elementary school.

Nolte Island. Haha. Yeah, I have saw that before also.
