QB is an obvious answer.
O-line for the coaches out there.
But I think it's the punter. Field position determines the game..period. If a guy can pin the ball at the five everytime and make the opponent have to go 95 yards for a score?...odds are probably in you're favor.

You must have been watching film from Katy's punter this past season. Normally you don't like to brag about haveing a good punter, but he made punting look easy.

I'm a defensive minded guy, so I'll vote for the linebackers. A team with a great linebacking corps is almost always in the game at the end, because they take away the other teams' running games and force their hand. They can also even be instrumental at limiting the passing game if they rule the inside short to intermediate zones with an iron fist.

That's true, he has to be the QB on the O-Line and it sure does seem like a lot of bad teams turn the ball over on the exchange. Good point.Originally Posted by The King

then slc is the most potent exception to prove your rule. for most of the dodge years, slc would have been better off going for it on 4th, regardless of the distance or yard line. punter was important in the 3yds and a cloud era. today, not so much.

I remember learning that exchange in J high and the coach telling me "if you don't get that down the only way this offense will go is backwards......and we want to go forward".

For anyone who has coached youth football you will learn how important both the offensive/defensive lines are as well as how important specials teams are. (punting and kicking) When I coached my oldest son's team we were weak in both areas and it made for a long season.

Of course the players are going to play the game but whenever you lose a game, it all goes back to the coach.

O-line and D-line...pretty boys cant get anywhere without those big guys up front...had a coach tell me the game is played at the Linebacker level...i laughed and said even Ray Lewis needed Sam Adams and Fat Tony to hold up some lineman...you can have all the skill you want but if you dont block or tackle you will lose

The thing that makes the Katy punter so good is the long snapper. If you notice the ball is almost always snapped high towards his upper head. The plan is to use the least amount of movement in regards to the punters legs and have a FAST snap which gives the punter more time to punt. The punter has fast hands and if the long snapper puts velocity on the snap then surely the odds of a block are minmal.Gator

Pflugerville hurt us because of that DE.
Pshhh.....shut us down offensively pretty much.
He made our defense stay on the field for way to much time and it wore us out.

IMO on offense its the center. Sure a good qb and skill players will make up for alot on offense, but having a good center usually means you have a good oline. And a good oline is IMO the most important unit in any sport. I think that unit is very comparable to a pitching staff in baseball and a post in basketball. At other positions your not always gonna be on your game, its just the way it is, but an offensive line is very consistent.
