as their coaches have said all along, chase came in ahead of the learning curve due to his coaching in hs. decision-making skills are just as important if not moreso than athletic ability, and chase enters the fray with an abundance of both. he will learn a lot watching a stud like smith for a year. his gene-donors are excited about his progress.

im just curious, did they redshirt him? or no, and if things play out, when is he due to be the starter

Well in the article, Coach Pinkel was debating over whether or not Chase was going to be redshirted or not. I think the Coach is waiting for a few more practices or so before he comes to his decision. If Chase is not redshirted this year, he most likely will be the back up behind Brad Smith and will start after Smith leaves.
