We just got in from my son's 8th grade game and turned on the SLC vs ECA game. My son looked at the ECA quarterback and went... "that is the same quarterback that played against us." I said are you sure and he said "yes because he was a captain when I went out to the middle of the field as a team captain too." Then he said wait until he takes off his helmet and then I can tell you for sure. Well when #7 took his helmet off my son said "yes, that is the same guy that quarterbacked against us." I knew they played 8-10th graders against our 8th grade team but I didn't know they played some of thier varsity players. Well they beat us 46-36 so I guess our 8th graders didn't do too bad considering they were playing against some varsity players too.

They did the same thing against us in 2003 and 2004. I'm sure they did in 01 and 02 also but o well.

Yes, most likely very true. Most State's across America allow kids to suit-up and play in more than one game per week. (Ie. Freshman and Jv , Jv & Varsity and ect).
In Texas the UIL only allows kids to suit up for "one game per week" so you wont see kids playing on the JV & Varsity team and ect. It's pretty much Freshman teams, JV teams and Varsity teams in Texas.
That's why in Texas you see alot of Freshman and JV kids suiting up for the Varsity games (Playoff games), althougth they usually dont see any game action. They do get more practice which helps the program.
But, in States like Louisiana and Alabama. You'll see kids playing on the Freshman and JV team on Thursday and them suiting-up and playing in the Varsity game on Friday night.

I knew how it was in Texas because we see it all the time when Lufkin has some freshmen and sophomores suit up during the playoffs. Now in reply to what is in bold, that is fine and dandy if that is what they do but it wasn't a fresman team that they played last Thursday, it was an 8th grade team. It is not a big deal to me or my son because it was a good experience. I just thought it was odd. Thanks for the info though.

Ya, it's kind of "BS" to have kids playing down. I dont mind a kid playing up but older kids playing down is stupid and almost unsportsmanship in my opinion.
When you're talking about 12,13 year old kids compared to 14 & 15 year old kids there is usually a pretty big difference in those age groups physically. So, 14 year old shouldnt be playing down with 12 & 13 year olds.
In Texas (UIL rules) 7th graders only play with 7th graders and 8th graders only play with 8th graders. Kids cant start moving up to "higher level teams" until their in the 9th grade.

There is an 8th grader playing in the game right now. That is such a joke. Sometimes I can't stand UIL, but I think I appreciate them.

That's ridiculous. They shouldn't allow players to play in more than one game...just think if one of your starting players was playing down and got injured...then what do you do? And a varsity level kid playing in an 8th grade game? I can't believe thats happening.

I remember reading an article back when John David Booty (current USC QB) was at ECA and how he had been playing for the Evangel Varsity team since his 8th grade year, so it must be something pretty common for good 8th grade athletes at ECA to play varsity. Maybe someone could help me out here, but I believe the number of males at ECA is an extremely low number, atleast it was at the time when I read that article on Booty a few years back, so it's not like they have 300 sophomore-seniors to choose from for their varsity football team.

I wonder why it wasn't mentioned during the game on TV about Terry Bradshaw attending Evangel? When I was confirming that Bradshaw went to Evangel, I found this interesting link:

Number 7 should have enver been on the field. He was something like 13 years old? He may very well be talented but the coach got the kid hurt, and not to be the bear of bad news...but when a 18 year old DE lays the wood on a 14 year old QB..bad things happen..thats why they have JV teams ECA..use them.

I just got back from broadcasting the Evangel game in Southlake..You have to remember there are just 50 players 2 being 8th graders on the varsity team..Man am I tired..Let me set everyone straight..Dez started the game because ECA knew that Southlake would have practiced for a pocket quarterback in Jordan..I thought it was pretty smart idea..The second series, Jordan played and then hurt his achillies tendon and will be out for the rest of the year..The second string quarterback is Dez Duron who got as many snaps as Jordan in practice over the last 13 days..When Dez went out with the Concusion, The third string quarterback (and star running back) Cerderrick Tyson had to take the reigns, as best he could..Did you guys notice that Cerderrick went to the sideline every play to get the call from his coach...He is just learning this complicated offense..I agree with outmatched on offense..I though the ECA defense did really well in the first quarter, with the defense on the field for almost 20 min in the first half..how should they have held up ...So now ECA goes from playing one of the best teams in the nation to one of the worst 1A schools next week in Cotton Valley..With ECA's third string quarterback..I am not looking forward to the running clock for the rest of year starting next week..Good game Southlake Caroll..very clean game..Your fans and staff were amazing, I got to park right in front of the stadium..thanks to the parking attendent then walked me up to the press elevator..Thanks for the wonderful experience..I'm telling you I would rather see compititon and a loss like tonight every week..Instead its time to try to keep the score low enough so we don't get accused on running up the score every game..Can't wait for the playoffs, man thats a long way away..LOL and Longview always accuses us as playing dirty or being a fould mouth team..Did any of you see that the last two games?

no you guys played a clean game, glad you enjoyed your SLC experience..i still have my helmet and rings...dont wear them anymore of course..but its the things that you have said about being a classy program that makes me proud to have played for SLC...hopefully we will run into you guys at a later date and everyone will be healthy and ready to go.
By the way, not to be rude, i know that your coach is new i believe i heard on the FSN broadcast...did this team look a little ill-prepared?? it just seemed like the players got tired real quick and just seem disinterested in the game..

Bradshaw did not go to Evangel. He went to Woodlawn High School ( http://www.mcmillenandwife.com/bradshaw_speech.html ) in Shreveport. Evangel did not even exist.( http://www.evangelacademy.com/ )
I think the article was making reference to the fact that they were both Louisiana Tech quarterbacks, just said it was in teh wrong city.

I think Duron has a lot of fight in him and like to see a kid fight like that...but if he doesn't learn to either throw the ball away or slide instead of going in head first he's going to end up decapitated. It almost happened last night.
