I just got this off another board.

Cotton Valley's coach called ECA's coach last nigh and told him they were going to forfeit the game..He then told ECA's coach that he was told that all they (Cotton Vally) has to do is show up on the team bus and they would not be fined or penalized..If ECA cannot schdeule another game or scrimmage..

I I look for this to happen another time or 2 this year.

that sucks. the rules shouldn't allow this, but then again, what did the ptb expect? if kt or coju were suddenly placed in 2a, the opponents might not be too thrilled about their district matchups.

No doubt. I watched ECA play Abilene High last year. I couldn't imagine any 2A programs in Texas hanging with them. I'll be very surprised if ECA doesn't set some sort of national record for scoring. The only way that will be prevented is if other coaches do what this coach did.

if i'm interested??? c'mon redneck, you know that i am--LOL..........if they backed out because they are scared or think that they don't have a chance against ECA, then that is chickens***!! you never know until you try, right??? is this the reason or is it something else?? might be more 1A teams there in La. doing more of the same really soon......shame on the coach and the Cotton Valley ISD for not even giving the kids a chance.....i bet the kids want to play against ECA....................

The bad thing is that Cotton Valley has won state titles and has a good tradition. They aren't a podunk team (But they are small) and it seems like a protest against the state and not so much admitting defeat.

They (if this is indeed true, no confirmation yet) dont want to have to play ECA. This talk got started when they first announced that ECA would be forced into 1A. There has been talk of CottonValley, Sarepta, and PlainDealin all not playing.

Here's the schedule as it stands:
September 3 Sat. Springdale, AR Indy Stadium
September 9 Fri. Texas High Evangel
September 18 Sat. Longview (http://lufkinpanthersports.com/) Abe Martin Stadium: Lufkin,Tx
September 23 Fri. Cotton Valley Evangel
September 30 Fri. Logansport Logansport
October 7 Fri. Serepta Evangel
October 14 Fri. Calvary Baptist Calvary
October 21 Fri. Haynesville Haynesville
October 28 Fri. Arcadia Arcadia
November 4 Fri. Plain Dealing Evangel

I dont personally think that PD will forfeit. They are a pretty good 1A usually. And they have a lot of history and pride.
Logansport hate ECA worse than anyone. ok WM hates more..and Southwood.
they will play. will be messy game.
Arcadia.. who knows..
Haynesville.. they think they are that.. they will play..
Calvary.. i dont think i need to comment.
But CV and Sarepta. who knows.. we'll see.

If CV does back out. I wish there were a way to play Lufkin. That would make it a good year. Beat the Ark team. Then sweep 3 Texas teams..hahaha. GAWD.. that would be the end. you people would never hear the end of it from me..hahaha.. would never happen though.. I feel pretty sure that ECA will take LV.. But i dont know if they could take Lufkin. :D

Oh yeah.. They dont have ISD's in Louisiana.. They have the insert parish name school board's there..

That 5A texas @$$ whippin' streak that ECA suffers from cant possibly last forever...

It tickles me to death when they play Texas teams.. Seriously, back when ECA was 3A I used to tell everyone: "ECA will have to go to Texas to find some real competition". And that been true. Some of the if not 99% of the best competitive games have been played against Texas teams. I think ECA is really honored to get to play Texas teams. I would hope that majority of Texas teams play on or near the level of game that ECA has seen thus far.

CoppellCowboy.. They are correct. It Evangel Christian Academy. If you are going to be anywhere near the Shreveport and/or Longview area for a game, let me know and I'll get you a ticket.

PackAttack....Oh I know.. that was a subtle little stab..haha..You know. Lufkin owning Longview and all.. I just figured the game would be there. I guess y'all gave Longview permission to play in their own stadium..haha..

I was taking a cheap shot..my bad.. What about the word "longview" having the LufkinPanther web address attatched to it? :p

CoppellCowboy. That would be kool..0903 is ECA at Indy Stadium in Shreveport, followed by the Longview fellas schooling West Monroe (the 2nd best team in Louisiana). You cant go wrong with a double header.

0918 ECA will be in Longview (not lufkin). Hopefully breaking the "we cant be Longview anymore" streak. Will be an exciting game. Both sides will be out of control. Will be lots of fun. Baby and I will be leaving from Austin around noon that day as the game is at 730 and we want to be there with plenty of time to irritate the fine folks of Longview Texas and get good seats. I'll be the semi-chubby fella with the face that says "git 'er dun" and baby will be beautiful dark headed girl wearing a shirt that says "i'm with stupid" and will a little arrow pointing towards me. :D

Really, the 0903 double header will be the best thing going on anywhere in America that day. It'll be more than 2 big girls (bertha style) catch'n hogs on a rainy day. And you know what kind of fun that is.....

CoppelCowboy. No Way.. Texas teams dont wimp out like that.. or none that i know of...
It is a little school outside of Shreveport area.
A quick rundown of things.. ECA is a 1A sized school. They have been playing "up" to 5A for a few years now.. After dominating 1A and then 3A.
The public schools and teams are angry because pretty much nobody in the state (save a game or 3) can beat ECA. So they have been forced (starting this coming season) to play in 1A again. CottonValley is a Louisiana 1A school. Today I heard they are planning on forfeiting.

DipnSpit.
Nobody recruits anybody. Do us all a favor and close your blowhole until your group of sissies plays ECA.
I hear ECA has an opening on 09-23. We're waiting.

No really. They dont recruit.

I love how Evangel was a 3A school and then went to 5A. I wonder why they skipped 4A? Could it be because there was a team in 4A that can beat them? I think I'm getting warm and now that Evangel is back in 1A they don't get to play that other team that has to drop back down to 2A, which is where they were when I was a kid. I'm talking about River Ridge John Curtis. You can read about them here. http://eteamz.active.com/jcfootball/index.cfm?

Talk to Drgbkr. Earlier he was talking about Linus Baer and Warren McVea and they played in the early 60's. You can tell he's old. I always seem about 20 years older than I am because I studied a bunch of stuff when I was a kid and know the history of a bunch of stuff.

Lonny.. That's odd.. It seems like I clearly recall a certain team from Shreveport putting the smak down on a certain team from River Ridge a few years back in the Hap Glaudi Classic. First game of the year. ECA and JC had a good game first half. Second half, I never did notice JC much. I think they left at the half and sent some other team out.. because the the second half I dont think JC had but my 2 first downs and no touch downs. Its been a while. I dont think JC will play them anymore.. They might now..

Bleed. That was funny.. the out of state stadium.. I cant say anything to that...

The band. Hey. Dont complain to me about that. It wasnt my idea. When my 2 friends and myself started that it just going to be drums. JUST DRUMS. then somebody thought ECA needed a band band. I was so disgusted. When they had the drum corp it was pretty darn kool and was fun.

When more and more kids started getting recruited not to play football, they all joined the band i guess. I would rather there not be a band. I guess I just have really high expectations..

Bleed. you are also correct about not a lot of fans.. It is a 1A school. You can only have so many fans when you have only so many students and the rest of the state hates you. :p

We really are coming that early so we can take our time getting there. I have this thing with really good hamburgers, so we are going to drive over to Woodlawn Texas to the general store/post office so I can get a burger.

BTW, I am still trying to verify that CottonValley backed out of the game. Dad said he hadnt heard and mom wasn't home yet last nite when I called.

Ok. Off to work.. then I can come back here and post.. i love my job.

does la have rules against rrjc and eca playing each other because they aren't in the same class? i don't have any love lost on eca, but i'm seriously incredulous that they can manipulate the state rule makers to adjust their classification so as to prohibit certain match-ups. someone is a little full of himself, me thinks.

EC's goal is national ratings, and being put in 1A hurts them big time, in that area. Im sure that La. has the same or simular rules as Texas, about attendance determining Classification. Never seen them dodge anybody. The idea of manipulation to go to 1A is rediculous. I heared they were considering playing an independant national schedule, and not play in 1a.

Redneckn
08-18-2005, 11:34 AM
Dragonsdaddy. No, there is no such rule in place.. If WestMonroe has the cajones to play ECA, all they would have to do is pick up the fone. In the pre-district games that is. WM being 5A and ECA being 1A.

I dont know why ECA and JohnCurtis havent hooked up again. I think they will pretty soon though. With both schools being forced into lower classification, it will be hard to schedule good non-district games.

Dragonsdaddy. Hopefully ECA will be play SLC pretty soon. That would be a lot of fun. Probably will never happen though. But man that would be a heckuva game.

ECA did not choose to go back into 1A. That was the last thing they wanted. In fact, when they were forced, they tried to get the schools rep's to vote to let them stay in 5A, they wouldnt even have a vote. ECA also tried to get into 2A (where john curtis is now) and they wouldnt even have a vote on it.

I think the national schedule thing kind of died for the time being. That takes a lot of money to do something like that. If they were able to keep it in a 3-4 state area playing 4, 5, and 6A's on open dates that would be pretty kool. But I don't think it would last very long. They cant play in MPSA because those privates are all lacking seriously in the football department. I think they will stick to 1A until they getting voted back into 5A or until the state decides that they can play above the current level. Like it was.

I can understand that Evangel gets talked about more than the other Louisiana schools because they play Texas teams, but that does not erase the excellence of John Curtis. They finished last year 10th in the compilation poll that tracks all the national rankings. They're from metro New Orleans and always played the bigger schools in the state before they brached out to start playing teams like Escambia. They were dominating Louisiana football in the 70's and ever since then while Evangel started their rise in the early 90's. John Curtis is ranked nationally every year and finishes in the national top 25 in the years they win state and they have 19 titles since the mid-70's.

The teams should play each other more and probably will from now on. I can't say one team avoided the other, but I do think they probably mutually wanted to stay out of the same classification with each other.
