I just completed a new feature kicking off our coverage of the 2005 season post Gridiron Guide. I haven't done a feature like this in four years of running the site and hope it's informative for yall. If any of you read Phil Steele's college and pro preview magazines...I got the idea for this based on his feature.
Keep in mind the teams featured all missed the playoffs last year, and won fewer than seven games.
Our picks for most improved (http://www.5atexasfootball.com/mostimproved.htm)
Enjoy!

I like SGP out of that bunch. Coach Fischer is one of the best!

I'll tell you what, if they even have decent talent on offense and can keep the team intact throughout the season they could nearly double their win total from last year (6) if things fall into place.

Without picking my own Leander Lions out of that bunch, A&M Consol will have a very talented team next year. Alot of juniors will have to step it up, but they are very talented juniors.
I still think we will be the most improved though ;)

As much as I hate to admit it, the southsiders from Abilene Cooper are going to be a force to be reckoned with this year. They missed the playoffs for the first time in 12 or 13 years and they are pissed.

Looking at the DII brackets you have Jesuit listed twice. I really do not think they are that good, maybe thats just me.

And they shouldn't with an enrollment near 4,500. I hear the new QB they have is supposed to be another good one.

Both A&M and Leander are on Westlake's schedule, so we should see if any of those three are the real deal or not.
Also, SA Marshall are the the Rams, not the Mavericks. It's the alma mater of Priest Holmes, known then as Anthony. Maybe you meant the Madison Mavericks?

I am interested to see how John Tyler does this year. I know they have at least double the kids out for football with a new and successful coach. With the athletes that they normally produce, they just may turn some heads this season.

Los Fresnos?? I pride myself in knowing some Texas 5a hs football but even I have never heard of them before?? Why do i have a feeling they are way down south, close to the border, and they are 95 percent hispanic?? ;)

Los Fresnos is a 32-5A school. They have a decent sized enrollment. I think they return more all-district plays than any other school in Region 4, except for maybe Edinburg, so they should have a good shot at making the playoffs this year.
I did get Marshall confused with Madison as I was typing that. Will change when I get back to the casa.
