Joe is quite possibly the best player in the state that no one knows about. I don't know if they'll win many games but he will have a big year no doubt about that. Even more off of the radar screen is Trinity QB Trevor Vittatoe. This kid is mobile and accurate and makes great decisions on the field. He's gotten a little taller and a little faster and drew rave reviews from one of the UT coaches at the Hardin Simmons camp. Watch for both of these young men to have big years.

Bell has made a habit of that with regards to their QB's over the past few years. I hope joe has a great season, It (the change in coaching)may have come a year late for Joe to reap the benefits, but I think it will pay off over time. The past QB at Bell is at New Mexico with Hal Mumme(Kentucky). How did that happen running the option???? Good Luck Joe

We actually named Vittatoe as our 2nd team pre-season All Texas QB back in June when the Guide released. We took notice of what he did last year, and feel like he can be better this year given the strength the ground game will have between Nance and Handy.

It will be interesting to see what Mauro does. His numbers weren't eye catching given the system they ran, but I'll watch to see what he does this year in the new system.

Yeah i have heard some good things about him. It should be intersting how he does this year.

I don't think that Vittatoe or Mauro or under the radar. Mauro obviously has an article about him and Vittatoe has been named in all type of all-(insert) teams. I think that Mauro is way overrated if you ask me. He is really promoted a lot by his father and stuff. When Coppell played him, the game I saw, I don't think he had a completion and had like an interception or two. Lets just say Coppell's secondary isn't near the top in the state. He is athletic but I don't think that guarentees sucess. I hate to be the basher but that is just my opinion take no offense to it and good luck to him in the future.

Gossieland, I have read but not posted on TPX, but I think I have seen you bash Joe numerous times on that board for whatever reasons -- I do know that he has had alot of d-1 interest with about 50 coaches up at Bell including Coach Fran to watch him throw this past Spring -- I have heard of numerous offerrs that are in the works, like the article mentioned, after a look at the first few Bell games this season -- I think that a kids film and athleticism draws this kind of interest, not a promoting parent -- I also know that the Coppell game last year was a very disappointing lackluster effort by Bell and that Mauro courageously played with an injury that kept him out of the next week's game --

KT 2000,

Never questioned your evaluation...You have proven to be very much on the money but the fact that neither of these QB's have a legit offer from anywhere is why I would say they are "flying under the radar".

Now for a quick trivia question...Who is the best Qb to ever graduate from L.D. Bell?

TrueBlue

That would be Tommy Maddox...

That would be Tommy Maddox...
what happend to him, he still in PIT, backin up "big ben" i except big ben to have a sophomore slump, maddox was also the one that got hit REAL hard and got carted off and eveyrthing few years back, and didnt he play like 2 weeks later or something?

Tommy Maddox is correct. Jamie Gill Class of 87 and Craig Presnall Class of 83 would be distant runners up. Now for a tougher one...Best Qb in the history of Trinity High School?

When it is all said and done it may be Vittatoe -- which is another way of saying I don't have a clue... TV is very good though...

Well done my friend. Even though he hasn't graduated I would agree that Trevor is the best QB the Trojans have ever had. One of his coaches is Jay Fitch and Coach Fitch would have to rate as the best before Vittatoe came along however he was an option QB. He earned the dubious moniker of "No Pitch" Fitch for his reluctance to give the ball up but it worked out for him as he was at the helm of 2 wins over then #1 ranked teams in the state. 1st he and the Trojans upset Bryan and then ended Odessa Permian's 44 game win streak with an 8-7 win in the regional finals. Good Luck to Mr. Vittatoe this year!

Yes, and like I said good luck to him with this season, not really bashing. Also, I was trying to say I did not understand why 50 D-1 schools would come to watch Joe Mauro play after the one performance that I saw. Sorry to state my opinion, please lynch me now!

^ Joe was 4 of 12 for 46 yards that game and 2 interceptions. Not to mention it was pouring down rain the whole game and he was playing with an injury. But the offense we had last year was running the ball. When we passed, we had 2, maybe 3 recievers going out for a pass and it was difficult, since it was just "run the route and hope you get open", rather than making reads. If I remember correctly, all of our touchdown passes on both Varsity AND JV were basketball style jump-balls in the end zone. That shows how frustrating passing was for us in the past.

Certainly you are welcome to your opinion -- but basing it on the one crappy game you saw doesn't make it a very informed opinion -- last years Bell/Coppell game may have been the single poorest football game I have ever witnessed on any level including pee wee -- including the officiating -- and most of all the lackluster play of the Blue Raiders --

Wait, what were his season stats for all of last year? I remeber clearly that it was not raining that night, probably the week before that one. Also the officating was bad on both sides of the ball and you cannot blame that for a lack luster performance because Coppell didn't seem to have a problem.

I agree -- Bell played like crap --
