Alright this is a pretty random thread I know, but its late, and the anticipation of the season is getting to me and without the games theres not much to discuss. I was trying to think of some schools with some wierd, out of the ordinary mascots. Bring 'em on! I know there are some worse ones out there but I remember driving through Port Lavaca or Aransas maybe and they had a pretty funny one, Sand Crabs or something along those lines.

OK I just ran across this site and this is pretty dang funny to read some of the names around the U.S. interesting tid-bit on the Atlanta Rabbits, according to this website they are named Rabbits after an old football coach named Rabb. You have to see some of these ridiculous named

Ft. Worth Poly Parrots-- Is that intimidating or what??
I won't talk about the Skeeters because their bite still hurts from last year!!
Highland Park Scots is pretting interesting...
Only in the South would you have Fighting Farmers (Lewisville). They HAD to add "fighting" to their mascot didn't they?? The next school can go with the Rough Ranchers!
My last one, there is a school in Des Moines, Iowa whose mascot is the Penguins and their school colors are PINK and GREEN! Perhaps the mascot is OK, but wouldn't black and white have been better?

Here's a link I have kept on file about the mascots in Texas:
http://www.allsports.com/network/content?site=1002&page=16835 :D
I was just looking over that list again and thought it is funny that there is not any school with a Horned Toad as a mascot, outside of TCU (and that's a college). A school in California has a horned toad mascot.

Afew yrars ago, at a playoff game between the Forney Jackrabbits an the Atlanta rabbits, a Forney banner said: :"only room for one rabbit and you dont know Jack". Or something like that.

There might be one farmer left in Lewisville - if that many. Of course, Lewisville is a short distance north of Farmers Branch. These guys didn't ever think Dallas would grow I suppose.

I think i mentioned in another thread the other day the Smackover (arkansas) Buckaroos. The Farmville (louisiana) Farmers. And the Mounties from Rogers Arkansas. there are lots that are pretty darn funny.
Then, there is the Haynesville "Golden Tornado". What the heck is a golder tornado anyway?

The one thats always gotten me is the Hutto Hippos. Its so funny when you drive through the town all the hippos you see. They're everywhere (not the actual animal, but you get what i mean lol).

Yeah, that is funny - not sure if it comes across as more urban. How about the Lewisville Northsiders? In reality, maybe it ought to be the Lewisville Tract Home Builders.
Not poking fun at Lewisville - but it is a nickname that just really doesn't fit anymore.

Gilmer Buckeyes-----my brother lives in Gilmer and i go to a few games every now and then(usually playoff games because 3A play their playoff games on friday nights or i would go on Longview's open date)....funny as hell to see this acorn running all over the sidelines----a "buckeye" is a poisonous nut, but you can't distinguish a poisonous nut from an acorn--LOL..........
