As we see every year just becuase you are the biggest and the fastest doesn't mean you are the best. Every team has a off game every once and awhile. Unfortunately for us we had two come back to back. Whichi considering it was the teams forst loss in two years is pretty good to me.

This will be an interesting season. If KT says big ,physical and fast than that's what they will be. However, I don't have a clue as to how good they will be. After last years whipping by Westfield, different season, different team. Aymond
will have them ready any way you slice it. I'm ready to kick off. Let's get started!

I am a bigtime NS fan. But I give kudos to Westfield for winning that game last year. NS had an off game. Everything went wrong for them. I look forward to this coming season.

As far as details go...
I've been hearing very good things about the progression of QB Terrance Cain. He had a 14 to 1 TD/INT ratio as a first year starter last year, so that's bad news for a opponents if he's improved a lot. Word on the street is that he may be the best passer the Mustangs have had...even over Mr. Reid.
Chris Riser will be Cain's main target, but I'm sure there are some young studs on the way up. They always seem to have one or two big receivers. Kevin Rutland is outstanding with the ball in his hands, and can contribute at basically every skill spot on offense. Senior Allen Sims (5'11 195) will be the man at tailback. Sims ran 41 times for over 550 yards yards for a per carry average of 13.5 in limited action. He's more than capable. As always, the Mustangs will be big up front.
I expect North Shore to improve the most on defense. They were extremely inexperienced last year after that group of two and three year starters graduated from the 2003 team.
Zack Aymond (6'0 250) and Ryan Riggins (6'7 310) will anchor the middle of the defensive line. It will be a typical build for North Shore in the front seven. Big tackles surrounded by smaller, faster players to flock to the football.
One of those players is junior linebacker Josh Morris. Morris had a very good year as a sophomore last season. Seniors William Forney and LaMarcus Pettie should also improve after getting a year more of experience.
Shore had a very good pass defense last year, and that should continue this year. Corner Chykie Brown (6'1 175) had a slew of offers from just about every top program he showed interest in, and committed to Texas earlier this summer. In recruiting articles written about Chykie (pronounced Shah-key), Aymond said he has a chance to be the best DB to ever come out of North Shore. That's saying quite a bit. Eric Harrison, also very fast, is another experienced player back in the secondary.
Overall, I expect North Shore to field another very strong team and probably finish 10-0 again. Pearland and Westfield are going to be tough challenges in the playoffs, assuming all three make it, but Shore won't be fielding a weak team by any means. Westfield will need to play with the same drive and hunger they had in the post-season last year, or else they could be watching the Mustangs in December this year.

KT thanks for that analysis. I am now officially PUMPED. Can't wait for that first game. We have to go all the way to Crump for the 1st game.
Let's see. Last time NS started the season at Crump was in '03 and we all know what happened.

Well now not to rain on your parade tailgater but the last few season's have started at Crump. Granted they have all ended in playoff runs and I know this year will be no different. So let's just hope the Red and Black attack come sout breathing fire after that dismal performace against Westfield. Personally I'd like to see a Sims bust a good old Lead Draw on the first play from scimmage or Cain hitting Riser or Rutland on a long pass. Or I would take us gettign the opening kick and taking it to the house.

Kt- Thanks for the overview. As usual, your analysis and this website's coverage is never far from the mark and always very reliable. I had no preconceived notions about Shore this year but from what you say we can expect a better team than I was imagining (After the regular season anyway).

Last year, I didn't know what to expect from the Mustangs at the start. The 2003 defense featured six players that started varsity games since their sophomore season. Of course, the QB position was an unknown after the Reid/Gaston years.
In my opinion, there were far more questions/unknowns last year fresh off of the school's first state championship than there are this year. People are going to say what they want about the schedule Shore plays, but I believe 11-1 is dang impressive with the reloading task staring them down at the start of the year.
Non-district wins against Elsik and The Woodlands coupled with the first round win over an underrated Pearland team proved that the 2004 Mustangs were not just stuffing their face with post-championship dessert in a weak district. The off-day against Westfield was the only bad result in an otherwise great season given the inexperience on the team overall.
It's definitely accurate to say I think North Shore will be better this year. However, the same could be said about both Westfield and Pearland (two teams Shore is likely to run into again in the playoffs assuming all handle their business).
Experience at key positions is the main thing North Shore has this year that was missing last year.

6'7 310 def lineman?? Big dude!! Is Bobby Reid going to start this year at Okla st?? I played a non conference game against them on my ps 2 the other night and he started for them so he has to be if my NCAA game says so. ;) I also saw some former Tyler Lee players are starting. Well on my game they were. te Pettigrew, and cb Van Zant i think?? By the way I only won the game 24-23 at Iowa City!! :D
I was just curious if he is going to get his shot this year?? Reed that is?? With Mcneal and Young already starting if you add Reed the Big 12 will have some extremely athletic qb's. The Missouri guy is very similar also.

Last I had heard he was going to be given a shot at the starting job along side Donovan Woods. Thoguh that was few months or so ago so I don't know where they stand now. I guess it really will come down to how well Bobby has recovered from the shoulder injury he suffered in the last game of spring practice last year.
KT2000
08-15-2005, 11:30 AM
Reid would have started as a true freshman last year if he didn't get his shoulder surgery. He played with that injury during his entire senior year at North Shore, and got it fixed last year. He beat out Donovan Woods for the starting position in the first weeks of practice before deciding to get the surgery to correct his shoulder problem.
Based on what I've heard/read, Reid is going to be the man. Donovan Woods definitely looked like more of an athlete trying to play QB last year. I think his future is ultimately at the same spot as both of his brothers...Rashaun and D'Juan...receiver.
I'm excited to see what Reid does this year, and it's always good to see Texans like him, Pettigrew and Van Zant doing well on the college level...even if they are in "that state up north."

Big Daddy Cool - last year NS play the first game at GPISD against an Alief school (Elkins?) I believe - then NS played the 2nd game at Crump.
NS always seems to be starting off aginst Alief schools. Which is ok but traveling to Crump is very hectic due to distance and traffic. You have to travel with the rush-hour traffic. The last two years, the NS band got there just about game time.
And even then - NS side had more people then the home side. NS travels well. Remember the Westlake game in S.A. NS side was packed.

Yeah we did start off at home against Elsik. Elkins is a HISD school which I doubt Coach Aymond would ever play. As far as the drive to Crump I will agree it is quite a drive. Though I've always left well before the Katy park and ride starts up. It also helps if you will get in the HOV lane before you actually get on 10. Now where the band is concerned well I am not a very big fan of them. So it wouldn't hurt my feeling one bit if them or the Drill team didn't show up to the games at all.

Elkins is a Fort Bend ISD School.
AND, As far as the band is concerned, They have a new director who is turning the program around.

08-16-2005, 12:21 PM
Yeah the new director did a decent job last year. They were much improved over years past thought they still have a ways to go. One of my biggest problems with the band has always been that when the team could use them most like say a cruical fourth and one or when making a goal line stand. The band seems to always be out of position or they just simply don't play. Maybe its just me but to me the band should be playing non stop. Now i do realize they liek anyone else have to make pit stops and do need refreshments as well.
I guess if I would have been involved in it or one of my brothers or sister were in it I might feel differently. And in reply to tailgater i agree it is all part of the show though that doesn't mean everyone is going to like every part of it.
Yeah I don't know why I was thinking Elkins was HISD. Though it really doesn't matter just th4e same as HISD I can't see Coach Aymond ever schedualing a team from the Fort bend area as it just wouldn't be worht the travel nor the competition.

You're right about some of those problems you addressed. But that'll all be fixed and it actually already is. There is another new band director. The whole band staff is new with the exception of the asst. who is going into year 2. He really is going to build this band up big time.

I would like to respond to the changes that are taking place within the Northshore Band. I see these as postive changes except for the asst. who is going into his second year. Isn't it true he is not very good with the kids and most of them have trouble with him? Why would the school keep someone like this and I hope that the New Band Director understands this. The other thing that I would like to know is if the Drill Team is going to get new feathers for that dance they have done for 50 years. In the words of a Texas legend "Oh Hell Yeah". I'm looking at that game as our only real test until the first round of the playoffs. And after two very idecisive defeats I know your Highlanders are just itching to get some of us. This will be my first game ever at Moorhead been past there a many times but never actaully went to a game there. I've always thought it looked like a pretty nice stadium.
The other thing that I would like to know is if the Drill Team is going to get new feathers for that dance they have done for 50 years.
In my opinion not only to the feathers need updating but the Scarlett program as a whole. In the twelve years I have been attending North Shore games I have seen the exact same routines performed every year. Sure those in charge could come up with something different. Not to mention gettign back to the strict guidlines with which one must meet to be a Scarlett. I mean there were more than a few of those girls last year that would have made some pretty good offensive or defensive lineman.

In my opinion north shore always is in contention. i Have heard that ns is expected to have one of the best offenses either and the defense is always there. Yes we will have to face pearland and westfield but if yall remember we played both of those teams on their home turf which is a very difficult task. This year is diff. if we have to face either of the teams they will have to play us on our home turf. So now its a tuff task for them. Ns has never lost at gpisd so it will be interesting to see how that winds up.
Any ways KT how do u change my sn. A lot of people didnt like the joke so out of respect id like to change it.

KT you should be able to change his name without deleting the account. You should ber able to do it through the admin control panel by going to his account and just changing it there. At least I know that's how I've done it on the VB boards I admin on.
And Aymond I wish it worked that way but unfortunately that's not how the playoffs work. We had to play both of them on their turf due to lost coin flips. Honestly though had we won I don't see Coach Aymond making anyone play us at home like that. He would have most likely played the game at Pasadena or Rice if it was available. I could be wrong, but I just don't see him doing that to anyone.

I want to reiterate that I've heard very good things about Cain, and that's gotta be encouraging for fans that have seen him up close. Also, when you compare the experience of this team versus last year it is really no contest. I believe they'll ultimately have a better team all-around than in 2004.
Of course, many things have to fall into place before we can "take that to the bank" (11-1 aint easy to top), but I have a feeling the Shore players have been looking at a big, ugly sign that reads 56-14 all off-season and are just building up a storm of vengeance set to unleash first in Crump Stadium.

OUT!
First off, get your resources straight. The 2nd asst. is working very well with this program. He is a great band director who knows his stuff. From last year, he was not givin a chance at all and it all started from the head director that was. He was given full control of the marching program and had right ideas going. From that people didn't think and started mess such as him running over the head director and doing this and that. Another thing, the asst. is very disciplined. The band lacked much of that so hardly no one could hold on and the head director just stood there not knowing how to take action. It was out of control, just a big joke. Running a high school band program is a tough gig. People think it's put together by just saying do this, do that, go here and go there. Nope!
As far as the scarlets and their feathers.....how do you know those are not new feathers? You're just assuming they are from 50 years ago. And you do that to just talk, talk, talk! They got new ones 2 years ago.

I disagree that assessment. You do not want YOUR band causing a distraction when you are on offense. The other team will handle that. But I have seen the NS band actually cause a fumble by creating noise just as the opposing team snapped the ball. I always sit near the band. You may not be aware - but they do get into the game.
As you know there are many times when NS is so far ahead that interest is loss toward the end.

We just don't need to be defeating any organization. Whether good or bad or if you don't have anybody involved you know. Regardless of the quality that does not meet your "expectations", these kids put in a lot of time and effort to perform with with the best ability they can. That you need to appreciate. And the fact that they participate and want to be there to be part of something great. It's awesome when you involve so much into one football game. It's one time you bring everyone together and be there for your school.

We just don't need to be defeating any organization. Whether good or bad. Regardless of the quality that does not meet your "expectations", these kids put in a lot of time and effort to perform with with the best ability they can. That you need to appreciate. And the fact that they participate and want to be there to be part of something great. It's awesome when you involve so much into one football game. It's one time you bring everyone together and be there for your school.

us band nerds are pretty cool kids :D
Dragons I never said the people in the band weren't cool. I realize not everyone of them are nerds.

I never said that I didn't think they worked hard to do what they do. Indeed for the most part they go out just as the football team itself and do the best performance they can do. Does this mean that they succeed every time of course not. All I am saying is that is part of the game I don't care for. Its no different than those who are there to see their son or daughter who is in the band, drill team, cheerleader, and so on. I'm sure there are many of them don't really care for the game itself. As long as the band continues to climb out of the rut it has been in for so many years I can either watch it or turn my attention elsewhere while they play.
And yes Mustang I have been ready for the season to get underway since that horrible day in Spring. That was the worst whooping a n Aymond led Mustang team has ever faced. Hopefully thos eboys learne da lot that day and are ready to rise again.

The one thing everyone forgets, including myself, is that this is high school. Part of the deal is getting as many kids to be involved in extracurricular activities as possible. One reason the flag team was added to the band was to let unathletic and unmusically talented kids have a shot at something-(not that they all are). I myself don't care to see the band or drill team, I just want to get the game going. There are some schools that virtually have only band parents and drill team parents come to the game and you can see it after the band performs the stands empty out. I am in favor of the band and drill teams on the student involvement alone.
Also looks like dragon backers have a problem with the above as they keep pressing the issue.

^ That right there is all I was trying to say. I'm not there to see the band or drill team perform. I'm there to see the football team perform. As you are saying in the same instance there parents that show up pay no attention to the game itself but are all eyes when the band or drill team takes the field. And as you said once that is over they leave the stadium. Is it wrong for me not to be a fan of everything that goes on at a game?

Looks like North Shore and Westfield are on course for another 2nd round playoff collision...a shame that one of these teams will go home early.

Yes, yes it is dada. That's one of the cruel things about our beloved Football. Though that is the cruel fate delt out by the gods of the playoff's. While she will shine on one she will turn her face from the other.

There is nothing wrong with not being "a fan of everything...." Appears what we need here is a football game without the band, drill team, cheerleaders etc and see how it changes the experience of the game.
Been to a Texans, Rockets, Astros game lately. They have so much music and side entertainment - it unbelievable.

i like the things with all the entertainment, it keeps you hyped up, like during in between innings, stuff like that, timeouts, in between quaters, halftime, it keeps you interested, so when the game begins again, your still all excited and everythign
