View Full Version : How did the scrimmage's go?

:) Here at MacArthur I would say this was the best scrimmage in a couple of years. The D looks very solid. Everyone is finishing to the ball. The big difference is size. We're bigger and faster as a total team.
On offense we look good but not at the same level as the D. That's expected but the running game is definately better. WR's are solid and we have a sophmore TE that just catch'es everything thrown his way. The offensive is going to open up the field this year. No more run, run, try to pass for a first. A lot of 4 WR sets
Should be interesting to see how this team does. We are not at the level of Judson or SV but this team will win it's share this year. Who knows, maybe with a few breaks they could steal a 3rd place finish in a very tough district. Week Zero against Clark and then Taft will give us an idea of were they really are.

How's everyone else doing?

MacArthur - I just don't know what to say.

I wish the best but who do they have? They just don't seem to have the talent that could muster up a 3rd place finish.

6th I can see, 3rd I can't.

What was the records for the Mac JV teams last year?

Good luck to Mac, God knows you will need every bit of it in 26-5A.

Speaking of Clark, I heard they got a beast of a freshman that could start at RB on varsity. I don't know if it is true or not though.

Anyone else have any info. about SA Clark?

Longview had a great intrasquad scrimmage today. Our backup QB can flat out throw the ball. If our coaches decide to utilize him....watch out, Longview will not only be one of the best run teams in the state, but we will have a very good pass game also. Our D is going to be just as good if not better than last year's.

I agree..Right now atleast it doesnt look as if its the running game people need to worry about.

Did you see Vondrell run over this guys though?! Dang!

Also agree about the D. It looked better definately today than it did yesterday (luckily)

Rclisle41 where were you sitting?

Yes I know it's going to be tough to get a 3rd place finish in this district, but the JV went 8-2 losing to Judson and Boerne (1 point). They beat SV, Churhill and Madison.
The Freshman went 7-3 and the fish that came up are solid players. This will be a better team then last year but they will have to play very well to get that 3rd slot. Last year's team lost to Clark 20-16 with the ball on the 4 yd line. Four plays and nothing. Then they had Boerne down 10-0 in the 4th and lost 13-10 on a last minute field goal. They then lost a heart breaker to Reagan 31-29. Played SV very tough in a 21-14 lose (they were up 14-7 at half time). They had the ball on SV's 5 yd line in the last minute but had an int. in the endzone to end the game. Then they made a change with the play calling and went to the offensive cord and put up 56-35 spanking on Madison and the QB in that game is the same kid this year, Udell. He was able to play in 1/2 of the games last year due to an injury to the starter.
The key will be how they do against Clark. This team will have to prove in the 1st game that they can win the close games. There's a reason why you win or lose those games...execution under pressure. This team through Spring practice and this week has a pop to it's step. You can see the difference. Like I said, we have to see if they can bring that to games. If they can, they can compete for that 3rd spot. Churchill and Madison has to be the favor for that spot but they are beatable

I have a question....
If Longview beats Longview...in a inter-squad scrimmage...
do they put that on the t-shirt too?

Now that's funny...I don't care who you are...that's funny.

ok heres judsons...

New offense completley...Alot of 3 and 4 receiver sets with Oscar Lee a 6"3" 162 pound receiver on one side and on the other 6"4" Dereck williams...both have unbelievable hands. There were some bad passes that were tipped by the one receiver or Db only to have one of those 2 snatch them up. ! of the quaterbacks a Jr named Carl is probably going to get the start over the other 2. Great arm can easily put up good passing numbers. Running backs are decent but no kyle fox, :( ... 2 really little guys who are fast will be the runners. Couldnt really tell how fast they were, except for one who got loose and burned everyone to the endzone, they couldnt get in open field defense was to good. The over all play selection was nice. id say they passes way more then they ran the ball.

The defense is all it is said to be. After 1 week of practice these guys were amazing. The d line is so tall id say in the front 7, 5 out of the 7 are over 6Ft with really long arms. The line backers are so fast there were a number of times that the offense had screens open up and huge hole only to be closed in a hurry by the LB's. This defense is easily more athletc and better then last years. I expect good things.

Anyone know of any scrimages in the upcoming week? Perferably around SA. I know Judson Scrims S.A. Marshall on the 19th....but if clemens has a scrim or if Madison of Sv id like to go take a look at them as well.

Clemens scrimmaged Alamo Heights(4A) today.

They scrimmage Round Rock Stoney Point, I believe, next Saturday up in RR.

As for Mac, I look forward to seeing them compete.

The Blue Meanie spirit needs to get back into the limelight

Update From Carter/Bowie scrimmage:

On the offensive side of the ball, execution started out slow for Carter, but they eventually got it together. It didn't hurt that Carter's O-line wore Bowie's D-line down either.

Carter's defense looked real good. A big improvement from this time last year.

One thing about Bowie's defense, they can hit!

For those who like to keep score Carter scored 5 times. Bowie didn't score.

Didn't Judson just absolutely crank Marshall last year in the scrimmage - something like 42-6? Dave Campbell picked Marshall to win district, and even the kids there don't buy into the hype. My gf's brother is a junior there and found it funny they are touted so highly.

I beleive Clemens' RB Henry has a few things to prove after his final game last season. That game (Clemens-Judson) should be incentive enough for him to have a fantastic senior season.

I sure hope so.

He literally came out of nowhere.

He basically broke out during the Clemens win over Judson in 2003 and has been the man since.

I hope he has a great year.
