With both teams basically rebuilding on offense, the game shapes up to be a low scoring affair. Leander's Douglas at DE is an outstanding player; MLB McCann has the speed and size to wreck havoc along with one of their outstanding DB's. I believe Leander runs basically a 3-5 defense. Rockets should be fine defensively, with Carter and a good Secondary. Offensively, it could be interesting for both squads with a lot of unknowns for Judson's O-line.

I think that this game can go either way. Leander has a very good defense this year and and explosive offense that has better athletes than last year. Leadership needs to step up and take charge. Judson is just Judson. They have been good in their history and will be good this year. It all depends on who comes out to play on Friday. Should set the stage for a good season for both teams. This is the first time that Leander has played two top ten teams is back to back weeks to start a season and this should show us if we are ready for the BIG TIME.
Good luck to both teams and I look forward to watching a competive game.

They have never met before. We started with Westlake the last two years and where 1-0 at the start of each season.

Leander will benefit from the two tough games whether they win or lose. It will escalate the improvement and show any, if there are any, weaknesses that need to be adjusted. In the last 24 years, Judson has lost their opener only 3 times and as a result failed to qualify for playoffs twice, but in the other year, won the state championship in 2002.
If you come down 281, turn right onto 1604, then go past Randolph AFB and turn right on Rocket Lane at the flashing lights. When you leave Judson and head back to 1604, veer right, don't go straight back to 1604 (too difficult to turn left--flashing lights only). After veering right stay on that road then turn left by the Exxon station to the stop light, then turn left onto 1604 to take you back to I-35 or to 281.

Like lion fan said, our defense shoudl be as strong as its ever been, and our offense has better athletes then it did last year, but alot of unproven people. I'm anxious to see how Josh McKinnley can throw the ball since i didnt get a chance to go to the scrimmage. We've known he can run (hes one of the fastest players on the team), but hopefully we can have a balanced offense because you need that against teams like Judson and A&M Consolidated. Regardless of whether or not its a meaningless game, if Leander could steal one from Judson the teams confidence level would shoot through the roof. Judson's already is with their track record but we're still trying to get that state wide respect.

Josh didn't play much in the scrimmage but he hit several long passes and we had several other passes that were missed due to penalities on the defense. Running game looks good and most teams will have to honor the run then the pass. Defense #1 and #2 shut down the opposing offense and they did not score in the scrimmage or the timed half that we played. I think both teams are well coached and turnovers will determine the winner of the game this Friday.

Where is Curenski Gilleylen playing this year for the Lions? WR...RB...DB? If Leander can run effectively this year, I think they'll be a team to watch out for. Last year, they had the passing game but little running. If they have better skill athletes this year than they had last year with Allen, Njoku and those guys then that will be impressive.

Curenski Gilleylend will be playing WR again this year and you could tell last year that out of Allen, Njuko, and Gilleylend that Curenski was easily the best athlete (fastest, strongest, jumped the highest, and was 2nd in route running only to Allen). And a player like Aaron Redman (i'm not sure if he's gonna be playing both sides of the ball or not) reminds me alot of Billy Allen. Billy didnt have the greatest junior year but came along his senior year with just over 1000 yards recieving and i think Redman is just as good an athlete as him. Plus players like Chad Cannon, Ram Rodriguez, and Blake Gideon are all a year older and all were starers in our secondary last year, so i think its safe to say that this year we may have a more athletic group of skill players then last year. I don't know if Josh can match the leadership that Drew Dunn brought to the table, but we shall see.

We are three deep in the running back department this year and we have speed. Josh will get his running yardage and when you least expect it the passing game will get you. We are as good in the passing game as last year with improved running game.Defense secondary will be second to none in their defense. LB's are strong group and two deep. The only question is who is the leaders on this team. If they show and do their jobs then this could be a good year.

I'm gonna actually say that theres no way our passing game is gonna be as good as last year with losses like Drew Dunn, Billy Allen, Travis Njuko, and even a player like Josh Tidmore all lost to graduation. But if it is....

our competition will have to respect the run more this year and that will make the passing game more efficent than last year. We have more weapons is what I am trying to say.

I watch team scrimmage most every day and it is hard to get a read on how the offense will perform. Lafon Clark has been a pleasant suprise at reciever. and Eric Massoni has looked good throwing the ball. He should be a good QB next year. I have a varsity son and a freshman son and try to watch both practices and I can honestly say that Leander should have a lot of depth for years to come. This years juniors were undefeated last year as sophmores and should make significant contributions this year and next.

This is a rebuilding year for Judson. Leander wins this game and there is nothing to be down about it. Leander is going to go far into the playoffs this year and Judson may get in as a 3rd or 4th place team and maybe go to the 2nd round. Leander wins 28 to 14.

I dont think Leander will be that strong this year, the real dark horses in that district will be Cedar Park and Georgetown. Look for both teams to make noise and will both beat Leander. Leander is Down this year!

I'm not saying we wont be down for srue, we wont know that until sometime during district play, but if returning 7 starters on defense leads you to believe that we will have a down year then i guess that is your opinion. Plus, Georgetown wont have a good team until they get rid of that coach that they have over there. They've had several teams very capable of making the playoffs and every year, 14-5as 3rd place team seems to have less talent then them. And i dont know if you forgot, but Korey Washington left Cedar Park 2 years ago so calling them a favorite in our district is interesting. If you wanted to use the argument that Leander and Pflugerville are down, then this is Round Rocks year IMO.

If anyone is down it is Plugerville since they lost all of their offense. But they are still better than Georgetown or Cedar Park. Yeah we lost to Cedar Park at the end of the season last year because we held out 9 starters to rest them for the playoffs. The they only beat out second teamers by 10 points. My dark horse in this district is Stony Point and McNeil They will be the ones to watch this year. Round Rock can score but can't stop anybody. Leander may be overmatched in some of their pre-district games but that will make them play to a higher standard going into district and into the playoffs. If their confidence is up then watch out.

I won't believe it until I see it and even then you have to consider if they can get better.

Judson always starts off slow and thats another reason I say Leander will win this game. This Judson team will better in week 9 and will get better each week , Leander should handle Judson would be no surprise to me. 28-14.

I thought Georgetown got a new coach last year (Blue). Hasn't he only been there a year or so? I agree this maybe Round Rock year, but I wouldnt count out cedar park and georgetown the new coaches to the district might have a good sophmore year of coaching.

I have to go with Leander on this one. I was at the Judson scrimmage and left very dissapointed. Thew offense never got in sink, and the defense started like a house on fire but then the wheels came off. I was told by a parent of a starter that there was some problems at practice with a player last week that cussed out one of the coaches, but Rackley blew it off and allowed the player to stay on the team. This has to bother a few Judson fans for this to happen. It has always been about discipline for the Rockets and this can't be good right out of the gate.

Judson 14
I hope that I am wrong here, but I did not see anything to think other wise.

yea umm...i dont know about you, but i dont start talkin trash until the week of each game comes up...and even then i dont really trash talk. Why would you be talkin about weeks 10 and 8 when we havent even played a game yet? seems a little risky to me to be saying Leander is going down....

Judson at home... i`ll say judson 10 leander 7.
I`ll be there to see judsons defense keep them in it.
I think marshall had alot to do with judson not looking great in their scrimmage. Of course we`ll see tonight, under the lights.

well I was close on the score I said Leander 28 Judson 14. Judson this will be a rebuilding year for them. Leander will get beat in the playoffs or next week when they play A&M , Leander's QB is going to get hurt if he keeps running the ball so much??? neither team did much for me tonight you will not see these 2 in the state game this year.

Wrong!! LOL Leander has some offense, and Judson, well their defense needs help. It very easly could have been 28-7. Thanks to Mendozas opening kr for a td, and a bone head touch on the ball on leander, at judsons 10 yard line with under a minute in the half, which judson turned into 3. So far their the only 265 that has lost, but SV,& Reagan play today (sat).
