Garland has maybe the best talent in years, but the fact is we have had great players before, and always have "issues" that keep us from deeper runs in the playoffs. If we had been knocking on the door the last few years then the high rating may be justified. It takes a bunch of luck to put it all together. SO, I expect Garland to have at least one loss going into the POs, and then if everything has gelled, to have a good run in the playoffs. I would rather not be rated and prove we should be, than be rated and have to live up to it. I think Hebron and Berkner could be rated right with Garland this year, with Lufkin and SLC #s 1 and 2 statewide.:D

I'm just reallllly worried about the O-line. Everything could be the best it has been in years but the oline will be terrible.

If the big "G" is over-rated and struggling right now . . . .
why do I have this pit in my stomach when thinking of the
game "Hell Bowl II" this Saturday?
I am able to objectively criticize the play of my team.
Some people think that if any observations are not dripping with sugar
your support is greatly questioned.
Hogwash!
Honest observations are appreciated and show the ability to not be continally sipping the 'Kool-Aid' that seems to surround school sports.
I know what you mean about talent not necessarily bringing the wins. 'Heart' can often times overcome talent. The more talented player sometimes gets beat because his effort does not live up to the talent.
I would suspect that we'll see a superior team show up at 5pm on Saturday.

I see some forcasts saying upper 80s and some clouds for Sat.(the chill of an early Fall?) In that case i will give up my seat in the shade and sit on the Garland side. That will make more room for the Allen band:eek:
This will be a good test for both teams. Gonna be fun:D

Garland 35 Allen 14...
I think Garland will come out slow but will hit their stride mid-way through the 2nd qtr.

Over and under on the passes Garland throws Saturday: 12
I say over because I think they will be installing some new stuff:eek:
Need to get the ball to #9 as much as posible

anybody know how many times #9 touched the ball in their scrimmage?
go watch the tape....i'll wait.
the number you should have come up with is 2. 1 run, 1 catch. and he scored on the catch. sure hope he's used more in a real game.

Garland is at their best when they pound the ball with clock control along with great defense. Sure they want to get a play maker like #9 the ball but no need to completely change what your best at.

Its understood that the Owls will need a threat of passing to make a good run in the POs. And # 9 is a very good WR. But yes, they will do the bread and butter pound it out basics to get into the POs. My favorite Darell Royal qoute still is "three things can happen when you pass, and two of them are bad"

From what I've read from y'all . . . . .
I sure hope your "O" does grind it out.
From what I saw from Allen's "O" it will roll like a tsunami.
The two RB's are very strong, yet elusive.(sp?)
Check out the 6'5" wide out #82. The kid can sky and pull it down over
99% of the corners that try to cover him.
The "O" should put up quite a few!
Y'never know after a scrimmage. Real game experience will tell it all.
The forecast is much appreciated. Mid-eighties and cloud cover sounds beautiful!
I can't wait.

Y'all may be using reverse psycology or something but I never doubt my owls! Even with 00:06 left in teh game against Copperas Cove last year I hadn't given up! GO OWLS!

I had...
This is a good, could be great team. Should they be ranked nationally or in the top three in the state - perhaps not. We'll have something to go on after Saturday's game. Allen is a terrific football team who will give us all we want and more.
As for Malcom's performance in the scrimmage... are we really ready to judge Garlands' commitment to getting the ball to number 9 based on a scrimmage?

I'm sure the secret weapons were hidden in a blast-proof safe somewhere.
The 'Barn Birds' will be soarin' come Saturday.
I just want our kids to be able to get on the buses with their heads intact,
forget the score!
Only Martin's bein' there would make this better.
I'll keep my eye on #9.
And, I do not think a scrimmage does a team make.(Old English)

Well, thats the way it was in August. Now I believe the Owls are absolutly in the top 5-7 teams in the state.

I agree completely. While reading the top 16 teams thread I was wondering why Garland who beat both Desoto and Allen, were ranked behind them in every other posters opinion... HMMM... seems odd to me.
Oh well it is on to the next game, which btw is going to kill me on saturday, getting up soo early to go and do my wine route, then driving all the way down there, and then coming back to work the next day... ugggh, oh well it's worth it!
GIG 'EM OWLS!!!

The truest test of a team is how they do in November and December, not August and September...
