i am very pleased to here him talk about the (high) level of athlete the RGV does indeed have, he has said that the RGV does have great kids and great football players and that we are DEFINETLY overlooked

I think another thing people don't realize about South Texas region (not including San Antonio) is how passionate the fans are. I remember first finding the RGV message board a couple years back and I was blown away. It had more topics than our new 5A board at the time, and probably still does.

LOL yeah we still do, RGVSports.com we LOVE IT....and we are passionate..

and speaking of RGV athletes being overlooked, there were several athletes down here that didnt get looked at, several that went to small schools that could have played for larger BETTER schools, but the RGV "stigma" kept REAL recruiters away.....unfortunatley this caused the end of several of their aspirations of playing football again, by not being atleast looked at, im sure it squashed several of their hopes and dreams..

He sounds like his a "GREAT PLAYER." Look forward to seeing and hearing more about him over the next two seasons. He looks like his pretty solid also.

In all of the years that Judson has played valley schools in playoffs, the fan support from RGV is outstanding. Whether it was Harlingen, La Joya or Edinburg, they came to cheer on their team which was fantastic to see.

the fan support is always great here in the valley..the best part about it, is that during the playoffs the valley unites and goes and cheers for the remaing valley teams..were just waiting for that one team to break the barrier..of course everyone wants it to be there team but when the day comes itll be something the rest of the state aint seen before i guarantee...

we got a south tx football site going that me and a few members of the rgv boards have been putting together..maybe KT can add it to his links in this site.. http://www.southtxhsfootball.com/

Stephens (memorial) is a great kid that should do well at the next level...theres another kid from Rio Hondo that already has offers from Stanford and some other Ivey league schools as a jr. he is a 6'3 275 pound tackle that also played Defense..theres talent here its just spread around and also some hidden gems but things are starting to move foward with football programs..should be intresting to see whats in store in the next 5 years..

do you mean overlooked by the rest of the state, or by recruiters. i doubt that that is completely accurate. there are so many opportunities to shine at camps, and with the internet access, there aren't any secrets anymore. the rest of the state will have to see some success on the fields against good teams before they'll take notice. right now, the rgv earns all the notice it deserves.

not to many true camps around here..dragon..many kids down here have to work to help support there families so money isnt always there to go up state for camps..and not to many can even afford internet..school is probably one of places where it gets used more..a lot of kids miss practice the first couple of weeks some even till mid september because they have to migrate up the states to work..those are things that will soon change as the valley this past few years has been growing like crazy..more Youth football leagues poping around..more oppertunites for parents to get better jobs. etc etc

I love watching valley teams b/c the support is awesome.

I remember when Victoria played Brownsville Rivera one year in SA. It was pretty crazy on the Rivera side. Until we started taking over ;)

you OBVIOUSLY dont know much about RGV football..... if you notice in his interview he talks about the QUALITY of football players in the RGV and how theyre OVERLOOKED and this is KNOWN BECAUSE HE PLAYS WITH THEM!!!! another thing, IF YOU WATCHED the Texas HS AllStar game between the North and South, you would notice that the only 2 RGV players that played in that game, JUST ABOUT DOMINATED, DE/OLB#21 Robert Salinas from LaJoya 6'2 215 4.6 was ALLOVER THE BACKFIELD ALL NIGHT and OL#79 Charlie Wiebusch from Sharyland was serving pancake after pancake...to the States' ELITE DLmen....so hows that for POOR COMPETITION?????

but nice IGNORANT COMMENT!!!

You know if he played up North he could also benifit from those stud 6'4" 280 plus linemen that your RB's have the luxury to run behind. It is easy to run behind that type of offensive line. This kid could easily play up North and perform even better then he does in the valley. If you notice on the films many times he is making 2 or 3 people miss in the backfield before he is able to start moving up field. Once again the valley is getting many transplants. Stephens is not home grown. According to the write ups he is originally from Chicago. This kid is an athlete. Formally a starting forward on the Regional soccer team. One of the best Soccer players out of 11 states which included kids from Houston, Dallas, Florida, North Carolina ect... This kid is use to competing against very high tallent and performing well. Speed wise the kid is solid. RGV champion in the 400M 48.9 as a Soph and second best time in the 200M 21.8. The only person to beat him in the 200M this year was another RGV athlete Dominick James who was the HS regional champion coming through San Antonio and was 6th place in the state meet. RGV has the athletes we have the speed we just don't have as many on any one team like you guys have up North. But wait....The RGV time will come as more people discover how nice it is to live here in the Valley. In the future you can expect more high profile athletes like Stephens. We have a current one Jamar Taylor playing WR for the Giants.
