If you are talking about RT yes he has been there so far. He is a starting cb and will get snaps at wr also. If everything works out?

I think Ralph is going to play the full season. That is not money in the bank just yet, but there are a few people close to the situation that think this is what is going to happen. Personally, I don't know.

Alright just checking. Somebody emailed me and part of it said RT and DEZ had missed the other day for some personal reason....oh well I hope RT stays on the team cause Dez will get double covered all year.

Scooter, This team has a lot of depth at wr this year. J Davis is going to be a stud on the other outside wr position along with Dez. Davis is 6'2 with nice hands. E Johnson, and Mcduffy look more then solid on the inside. E Johnson looks to be very impressive. Then you have RT that could be in the mix at times. He will not play as much at wr because he will be the starting cb this year. They did an almost identical thing with Hewitt and everybody thought he would still play wr but he hardly did at all. Hewitt became a 1st team all state cb. RT has a very similar type of athletic ability Hewitt had. If they double Dez all year they will be in trouble. Do not forget that J Turner is a very good pass catching rb. If you saw him in 7 on 7 then you know what I am talking about.

All things considered, I think our wr's will be somewhat better than last year - not a lot, but somewhat. Assuming good health and all other components are thumbs up, Dez will have a great year - probably break most school reception records unless he's triple teamed all year. Ralph will be hard to replace from a consistency standpoint, but certainly do-able. The wr's 0808 noted are all substantially better than their counterparts last year - who were pretty good.

And, one of the fastest rb's in the state with excellent hands is a good problem to have. Last year he just got little dump passes and screens - I hope to see much than that this year with Turner.

I agree on Turner. I hope they utilize him more in the passing game and I think they will. He is very talented in the running and passing game I expect him to have a GIANT year. Plus he has bulked up some after working hard in the weightroom in the off season. Look, from the little I have seen and heard from these new wr's I think Lufkin is going to be much better off then last year and they were not bad at all. I think J Davis is going to be a major weopon along with ofcourse Dez on the outside. I have a feeling James is going to be much better then M Raines, or T Gordon who was a dissappointment. I also was very impressed with E Johnson. He could be very good and I expect him to be a better wr then Shankle. Mcduffy is probably the 4th best of this group and he is improving from what I hear and should contribute. I still think we will see RT at wr some. This wr group is going to very good IMO

Ditto on Turner. I actually forgot about replacing EJ - one of the fastest Panthers ever. Shankle had some great plays and speed is speed - but his replacement will have equal success IMO - and hopefully we put that dang reverse back on the shelf - lol. What is it with EJ and the reverse? They were doing that crap in the HS all-star game as well.

Probably one of the best combinations of receivers in Lufkin's history. Eric Johnson and James Davis are better receivers than we had in those positions (Rains and Gordon) last season. Ralph and E.J. will be harder to replace, but McDuffy is pretty good replacement.

Dez is awesome and Turner will surprise many out of the backfield.

The Panther offense will be tough for any defense to match up with this season, even The Woodlands.

TWS could not match up last year. ;)

Should be fun to watch this year.

Yea, it is too bad we lost our staring QB and had to move a starting WR to QB the week before we played. Hey, that's HS football, some get the breaks and some don't.

Old saying is, you show up and play with what you have.....we did.

Yeah but the Lufkin defense could not stop SLC last year. If Claybon was there then the score would probably have been something like 52-45 SLC. I just wish Hewitt would have been healthy for one of the SLC games in 04 or 05. He was not near 100% in either game.

I agree on that one big time. If Claybon was in the game I am sure the score would have been closer but probably the same result. Our defense just got burned. No excuses.

*sighs*

You can argue that the other 2 games were winnable, but not last year.... It wouldn't have mattered if Claybon was hurt or not. I don't think enough credit is being given to the SLC D personally...

It's not that Lp fans are not giving credit. We just know that Claybon was at Qb, and RT at Wr. things could have been a little better.

That was a down grade in Qb and Wr., We took a Wr. and had him at Qb. , and put another Wr. out there. RT was good enough to finish out the game before, but with out working out at Qb. , you know the plays where basic. No one expected him to pick up where Claybon left off, with only a 1 qter, and a week at Qb. Timing was off on some plays because of different Qb's. So in other words, SLC defence was not facing our true 1st string team.

We Lp fans have stated good game and moved on! Every team will have a bad break in players hurt, how much it hurts is when it happen. Prime example of what I'm talking about is Tyler Lee that year they won state.

How fast is Turner?

PackAttack2005
08-23-2006, 07:00 PM
Turner is a 4.4 guy, but he is more than speed. He is not a big guy (160) but has great vision to see the open hole and shifty enough not to take a hard hit.

Turner also has some great backups this year in sophomore Trevon Lewis (4.5, 6', 180) and senior Ferris Evans (4.6, 6'1" 215). Not only are the Panther's loaded at receiver, the running back positions are quite talented as well.

He is little in terms of age but he is much bigger then his brother size wise. He has a long way to go to get to his brother's level from what I have seen in 7 on 7. He looks to have a lot of talent though. Nobles is the 2nd string though and I hear he is not bad at all.

Well consdiering Lufkin scored 28 points with one of their best wr's at qb where he has hardly ever played I would have to say Lufkin could have scored a couple of more td's with their "all state" record breaking qb. Only makes sense to me. I did not say Lufkin would have won I just simply said Lufkin would have scored more points. The game is long over and SLC was the better team period.
