if anything thanks for the excuse to now live at the bar for the next 7 days. this was as pathetic a showing I have ever seen by a group of "professional" athletes. You have your dreaded rival in town for 5 games, start the series only a game and a half back and you go out and get embarassed on your freaking home field. The Sox dont deserve to make the playoffs after this performance and heck people like Beckett, Timlin, Lester and others shouldnt even be paid. Piss Poor.
By the way I cant believe I am going to say this but the better team proved to be the yankees, I still hate em but damn they owned us this weekend.

What a pathetic series. The Sox have dropped so low since the allstar break. The sox will be luckey to even contend for the wildcard now. Theos lack of moves at the break and injuries seem to have plagued the team.

beckett's just another national league pitcher who excelled in the NL due to bigger parks and no DHs. Hes no different than Vasquez, Brown, Pavano, etc.

This offseason i think the Sox will find a quality closer and move Papplebon to the rotation. This offseason should be interesting. The sox are in desperate need of pitching...

I guese this seasons not over, but if the Sox dont start going on long winning streaks, this seasons done....

Me being a Sox fan, I'm with farmer, they don't deserve the playoffs. Still with the greatest one-two punch in any line-up and they cant get squat done against the one team they needed it to happen against. This is just something to lower your head because of.

Beckett has set carrer highs so far in starts and wins if i am not mistaken. Dont turn on him now. He has sucked his last few starts but evryone goes through that. It frustrates me too see the 180 that many Boston fans have during the course of a season. Not but 2 months ago every Boston fan was jacked about this guy. He will be alright.

I am just going to be nice in the face of that series of red sox loses to the Yankees. I simply could not believe what I was seeing - almost 50 runs in 5 games??!! I must admit that I am happy about it, but just can not believe that the Boston boys performed so poorly in Fenway.

I too could not believe what I was witnessing before my eyes. I gurantee you 99% of all sports fans and around 90% of all yankee fans never expected this. Total domination unlike anything since 1978. As Pedro would say, "The Yawnkees are my Daddy".

doesn't he lead all starting pitchers in home runs given up too? and speaking of career highs, his era is at 5.35! he hasn't won a game since july 24 by the way. not exactly the last few starts. i do look for him to turn it around. i think the pressure of the whole pennant race has gotten to him. they didn't exactly experience those kind of things in south beach...

What could be more pressure than pitchign game 6 of the world series at Yankee stadium? and we all remember howthat went right? He did just fine there didnt he? Look just like Johnson has turned it around Beckett can too. Pitchers often hit a lull in their carrer. Right now Beckett is in a new league and the hitters have caught up to him. This off season will be big for him in they way he alters his game. He will know AL Hitters much better and working with Tek you better believe he will come in a lot better next season.
Sure his ERA is 5.35 and he has given up a carrer high in homer runs, look Randy Johnson is doing much of the same for the yankees but that seems to all be forgotten now. He is young enough and will be surrounded by many yhoung players and a decent team to where he will be able to recover. If you choose not to believe that then fine.

1-not much, but that was just one game. not half a season...
2-a lot of that has been forgotten, you're right. you wanna know why? because johson doesn't have an era over his last 4 starts of 9. johson also has more wins, less losses, a lower era, lower whip, and more k's.

I was in New England this Summer and those folks were swaggering! All my Husband's relatives to be sure. Since God led me to the Yankees in the Bucky Dent/Reggie Jackson/Thurman Munson era I have always believed. This year was no different.

It was a lot of fun looking those Sox fans in the face and saying "What World Series? Boston didn't win a World Series. What are they putting in the water up here? Wow! What an active imagination...do you write for the movies?" ;) ;) ;)

"Theeeeeeeeeeee Yankees Win! Theeeeeeeeeeeee Yankees Win!"

it's nice to know that there are other yankees fans out there.

When we moved mback to Texas from Washington DC area in Summer of 2002, we did a sort of 9/11 tour so my kids could "see and remember." On the New York part of the trip I let each of them choose an outing other than the WTC. Of course they had to then accompany me on the Stadium tour. I had seen games at Yankee Stadium, but to go on the tour was really special. Of course it was a game day and they "wouldn't" let us touch the infield. Sandals turned on the side at the edge of the third base line. I know I sound like a kid, but that was fun! Sitting in the dugout, walking in the bullpen, strolling in the monuments. Brings it all to the living room while I watch or the car while I listen.

The first Yankee game I saw was at Camden Yard in 1978. Rained out after several (hours) rain delays. Yankees got the win. That was during the playoffs if I remember right. Lots of Beer at the ballpark in those days.

Johnson also has been with his starting catcher during those starts. Its no suprise that Tek wentout on July 31 and that can be linked back to some of the struggles of Beckett. Lopez or Mirabelli had never caught him before that.

Your world series argument is odd to say the least. There is more pressure in pitching a world series game than there is in pitching over half a season. What Beckett did to the yankees in that world series remains one of the most dominant performances ever seen by a pitcher against the yankees in there entire history. Trust me he will get that swagger back.

Kind of like those faces on yankee fans as they were going through the greatest choke in sports history. Nothing ever beats that, up 3-0 a bunch of animals running around the zoo dressed up as ghost with 1918 signs only to see there team complete the greatest choke in the history of sports. You can take your 5 game sweep that is fine, no one will remember that in 10 years. However the great comeback/choke job in sports will still be discussed and brought up long after you and I are gone from this world.

what i mean to say is, the race for the east constitutes 2-3 months of do or die games. a world series game is one game. i know that the pressure is unbearably unbelievable ...but could that same pressure be spread out over a couple months of critical games? i think so. that's what i meant, i don't know if it clarifies anything but...

by the way, johnson doesnt like to work with posada. on many of his starts this year it's been with stinnet...and stinett is no starting catcher.

gotcha, thanks for making it clear. I believe it is way to early to start judging Beckett on one year. If this trend continues next year and for seasons to come then you would be right. Right now it is still to early to tell.

As far as Johnson and Posada not working together that is fine. My point was that Johnson has had his regular every day catcher and right now Beckett is working with catchers who have caught him no more than 3-4x each. It is huge that Tek is gone cause no one catcher knows the yankee hitters better than Jason Veritek. Not a excuse just a point :D

Alright you say your proved me wrong? Because Beckett had ONE good start?

And you may of, I just want to hear why?

Beckett has 14 wins? Thats a decent amount, but he also has 8 loses. He gets a win 50% of the time hes on the mound. Decent.

Hes having a DECENT season if thats as far as you look into it.

However, wins isnt the only important stat for a starting pitcher. ERA, whip, and HRs allowed are also HUGE stats for pitchers.

Becketts ERA this season is a stunning 5.21, the 3 previous seasons his ERA has been below 3.8. A HUGE increase in ERA.

Becketts terrible ERA may be credited to the amount of homeruns he gives up. Beckett leads the majors in that category. This year he has given up 36 homeruns ALREADY and we still have a month of the season left. That number is more than the last 2 seasons combined.

Becketts whip is also .2 higher than last year, win% is .20 down from last year, strikes out a batter less per 9, and walks another batter per 9.

SIDE NOTE: Beckett has already allowed 25 more runs score than last year and has more hits than a season ago.....

Now that being said, I would like you to tell me your reasoning in saying beckett is having a Beckett like year? Is it because he wins more games? Cant be because his winning % is lower, and winning % has to be more important than just wins. Hmm... What could it be? Couldnt be Bostons lack of defense, they lead the majors in that, couldnt be lack of a good catcher, Varitek has started all but 3 of his starts, hmm,,,,What could it be?

Now lets see why i picked the yankees is it cause im a band wagon? No Could it be due to the fact that i stated i had a friend from new york who tried to convert me to a yankee fan? Or due to that i was an X yankee fan? How about when i went to NY with him in 2003 i saw a yankee game which was my first mlb game ever? first what is pee wee baseball? I have never heard of pee wee baseball. I have heard of little league but never pee wee. Second, if you dont watch and you dont know then you dont have the right to criticize. I say dont know cause chances are you dont know anything about the history of the Boston Red Sox. I do agree with you on the annoying sports fan aspect. It is how I feel about a lot of Texas Longhorn fans some of the most obnoxious fans in all of sports.

Now for your second part. Being a fan has nothing to do with who your friends like or why they try to convert you. Being a Red Sox fan is a lot more than winning championships or converting the masses. Being a fan of the Red Sox has a lot to do with loyalty and pain but living each and every year for that pain. Also if only being a fan since 2003 then you hardly have any right to poke fun of 86 years of heart break. In fact since 2003 Boston has been more successfull than New York has. Also if it took till 2003 for you to go to a MLB game then that says to me that you are no fan of baseball.
Look the rivalry between New York and Boston is a great one. In fact many yankee fans poke fun of us and have that right, it doesnt piss me off in anyway cause there are always comebacks for those yankee fans. However you dont fit that criteria at all. So leave it to the "True Yankee" fans or true fans of baseball if you care to hear the comments you have made.

So leave it to the "True Yankee" fans or true fans of baseball if you care to hear the comments you have made.
now i like your second part...

it may come across often that i play the "we have more world series rings than you do", and maybe i do. but that's not what being a fan is all about...you nailed it. living thru all the pain and stuff, staying up late just to watch your team lose. hell, come on here and argue about your team, that's part of what being a fan is about.

exactly. I stayed up till around midnight this week to watch us get beat 9-0 by Oakland. Sure we didnt have Ortiz, Ramierez, Nixon, Veritek or Pena in the lineup but those guys are not the reason why I am a fan of the Boston Red Sox, it has to do with things that happend before they arrived and will continue to take place long after they leave.
Like you said, you being the yankee fan you are have the right to make comments like "Got Rings" or what not. As a Sox fan I will listen to that and just simply respond with a "yankees suck" but it is what being that fan is all about. Its also about defending your team when some person decides that he can just simply make comments without having a loyalty of his own or only being a fan for 3 years or having no reason why he is a fan.
That why I respect you and love arguing wth you yankeefan, cause you keep it fun and clean but you also have the perspective of what the rivalry is all about and like so many other rivalries in this country that is what makes ours so special.

lets see not watching and not likeing whats the difference lets see i said i didn't watch so that must mean i don't like even though i played pee wee and backyard baseball...How do I have no right there are people who don't like sports ingeneral who have met annoying fans from sports team and cannot stand them thats like saying most americans shouldn't criticize iraq unless we been there.

All i see is a angry boston fan who wants to use band wagon as an excuse cause to make him self feel better
Talking trash about the Redsox is stupid....You have liked the Yanks for 3 years, Farmer has loved "his" redsox for his entire life....Talking trash about someone elses team is easy if you have never expierenced your team losing. I guese the Yanks have lost ALOT the last few years but i still question your loyalty to the Yanks. Where have you been the whole season? When Boston had the lead in the east? Boston is now pritty much out of the race and Farmer, a true fan, is still here defending his team.....You may not be a band wagon fan, but you surly are a fair weather fan....Love em when they win,,,,could care less when they lose.....

Your ability to bold what i said is astounding! I know NY has more cs's I don't like either boston or the yankees, but if I had to pick i'd only pick the yankees cause of a friend who tried to convert me to one who was from new york. Prime, you are right and I should have known better than to engage into conversation with stevefox considering some of the things he has posted in the past. He does not understand what being a lifelong fan like yourself or myself or yankeefan is all about when it comes to this rivalry. Like I said earlier I have no problem when a true yankee fan makes fun of the Red Sox, it makes it fun and interesting but where I do get frustrated is when someone who has no clue about the histroy of the rivalry attempts to be funny.

The truth is...,.

Even though I am a die-hard Yankee Fan, I felt a bit of a thrill that the BoSox did win after my boys were out. The teasing of my relatives in New England was only because they had been waiting for my visit to make a big deal of it. My husband is a True Red Sox fan and it has made for an interesting 25 years to be sure. Opening day is a mini-holiday at our house. I put on my Yankees hat and he just, well, ignores me :D

I wore a black armband for three days after New York was out of the race. It drove my husband nuts. He still laughs about that.

Being a fan has nothing to do with who your friends like or why they try to convert you

True but most of the times don't you become aquainted with things through friends I played baseball for "little leagues" or peewee as many of us said around Austin now I knew of teams like the yankees the dodgers marlins rangers etc then but i never focused on baseball until 2003 why then?
hmm first of all I was 17 working very active in school activities where was the time until later on that year i live in temple im not a big astro fan so why should I drive to one of there games and how often are the yankees in Texas since atm they were my team of choice? My friend from New York came to Texas at first in 1999 and we used to pick on him for beeing from New York. He invited me to go to NYC with him. I'll admit I liked the yankees a bit before I knew him mostly cause of babe ruth imo greatest baseball player ever. In new york his family took me to a yankee game and I had a blast fans cracked me up many polite and some rude ones, but all in all I had fun. I watched yankee games with his family and him until they left texas after graduation and it really wasn't the same so I just stoped after a while.

Also if only being a fan since 2003 then you hardly have any right to poke fun of 86 years of heart break.

By this logic that would mean you have no say so in anything prior to the day you have actual knowledge not birthday just the day you could coherntly walk talk and think for your self. 86 years of heartbreak from 2004 would mean 1918 so you would be 88 i assume? Wow you reall are an old fan:cool: you got me there

Also if it took till 2003 for you to go to a MLB game then that says to me that you are no fan of baseball.

Now if i played in it shouldn't that say somthing? Also living in austin moving to temple later the closes teams are the rangers and astros now from 1986 when i was born till 2003 my mom went to college and worked wheres the time there? oh lets see i didn't have a car to go see the team im starting to like again due to an irritating boston fan and i don't think a power wheels would have made it to new york. For the record there are fans all over that don't go to games thats why we have TV if i could go to every long horns game ever i sure hell would love to but i can't does that make me a non fan?

However you dont fit that criteria at all.

Right its my fault that i couldn't attend a game cause i was in school worked and really didn't have the money needed cause some of us aren't as well off as we would like to or cause how many times a year do the yankees come to texas? last time i herd of them here was 2005 july 20th you're aware that I'm 20 in school pay bills and other stuff having left over money from a day of work is a dream:cool: Though i must thank you really i found my roots back to yankee land wow who thought a boston fan getting on my nerves could do a good thing

The yankees came to Arlington twice this past year. In odd number years they come for 1 3 game series and in even number years they come to arlington twice for two 3 game series. It is quite easy to go see them since they usually come in the summer time.
So I helped you find your roots back to yankeeland? how deep do those roots run?
I too pay bills and I too have a job, that does not stop me from going to Arlington to watch the Red Sox or venturing up to Boston to take in a series at Fenway.
What I mean by you being a fan since 2003 was that poking fun of the Red Sox is something all yankee fans do, however I have never seen you once come on this board and do such a thing not when we had a baseball board and not until this past week. You yourself admitted that you have no team of choice and later said OK if I have to I pick the yankees. That means you are no fan and by being no fan you sound like a fool to say 1 title in 86 years sucks or whatever it is you do.
Chances are I could ask you what happend in 1978 or who Bucky bleeping Dent or Aaron Bleeping Boone were and something tells me you would have no clue unuless you googled it.
The funny thing is you say a annoying Boston fan or whatever it was you used to describe me however a true fan such as yankeefan has never said such a thing about me although im sure he has thought it many times :D
Fact is buddy leave the baseball talk and the trash talk to those true baseball fans and quit being so fickle when it comes to being a fan of baseball.

The only bottle I was ever on as a kid was Budweiser.

I dont have a carrer, I am in school too. However unlike you I have lived through and remember heartache. The thing you dont understand is that making fun of Boston for not winning a title in 86 years goes back to heartbreak. In 46, 67, 75 and 86 Boston lost each of those world series in 7 games after holding a lead in all 4 game 7's played. Its all apart of the so called curse and its why yankee fans rip us so hard. It also has to do with events such as 78 or 48 when we lost the division by 1 game to Cleveland or 1949 when we lost the division to New York by 1 game and they went on to win the world series that year. It all has to do with coming so close, but however being a fan for only 3 years does not give you that right. Thats what you dont understand.
As far as past events and being a fan, its a easy concept, you admitted earlier in this thread you had no team to root for and you didnt like the red sox or the yankees, your words not mine. By admitting that its weak to poke fun of a 86 year championship drought since you have no team for me anyone to give you a hard time about. You can say you are a yankee fan all you want but I seriously question that.
Actually if you are a yankee fan tell me who starts at catcher for them and who there second basemen and left fielder are and who is their closer. Dont go look it up just tell me.

Dude, with something like 35 games left and facing a 7.5 game deficit in both the East and Wildcard it would take a total collaspe from the Twins, ChiSox and Yankees for us to even have a prayer. Remember Papi, Manny, Tek, Nixon, Wakefield and Clement are all out right now. That does not bode well for us. Keep the faith all you want and I wish I could however the realist in me tells me to just enhoy our young ones getting experience now and go get them next year.

Fact is buddy leave the baseball talk and the trash talk to those true baseball fans and quit being so fickle when it comes to being a fan of baseball.
you have just won 1 million dollars!!! ;) there is absolutely nothing worse than arguing with a sox fan when boston is ahead of the yankees...or when they win a series....or when they come back from a 3-0 deficit in the playoffs...or...
