Aside from John Tyler and Plano East, what is the most exciting or fantastic finish you have ever seen? When SGP wide reciever B.J. Johnson and his team ran up against a very good Lamar team, the high school version of the immacualte reception occurred courtesy of Shannon Bennett and Brandon Wetsel. If you've never seen it or just want to relive it, you can view it at:

It is the featured video at the top of the page. Let's talk! I know Lufkin fans are going to say it was Reggie McNeal's come from behind win over my Trinity Trojans a few years ago but what others are out there? Maybe i've forgotten a few. It's a good way to pass the time that is left until the season kicks off!

#1 the JT-Plano East game is eliminated in my books because JT won on talent and not because of their bad coaching.

I'm going with the Judson-Midland title game in 2002 because the Rockets won on a bomb as a running team. The lead changed hands 4 times in the last 4 minutes.

The SLC-SV game was good, but it was a case of Carroll setting up for a FG as time expired and not a surprise ending.

That is by far one of the most shocking finishes I have EVER seen!

That last drive was the ONLY drive all year that Thomas Elbel and Joel Waldon did not alternate with each other. Elbel put the Rockets up 27-25 with a FG after he drove them down the field and then came back out for the last pass. Thomas asked Andre Williams if he could get open and he said, just throw it to me. Midland played a 2 deep zone and still couldn't keep a guy within 10 yards of Williams. Maybe SFA will come on here and say how he felt. He was a guard on that team. Everything I've heard was that the team believed they were going to win in spite of having :17 and 76 yards to go. The best part was watching the jumbotron of Ryan Rowland crying because he thought they'd won state after he put Midland up 32-27. I was in the opposite end zone with a friend who hadn't been to a Judson or Texas game before since he's from Eastern New Mexico. I was holding my daughter because she got her leg caught in the Alamodome seats and started shaking her when it looked like Andre was going to catch the pass. I saw him run into the end zone, but it was almost like I was in a fog when I saw him break free and the ball was about to arrive.

1993 5A Div 2 state championship between Lewisville and Aldin MacArthur. This was a back and forth game all afternoon and basicly a game decided by who had the ball last. Mac had scored with 3:17 left in the game to go up 37-36, when we got the ball back, we had back to back 1st downs to move the ball up to around the our own 40, we were faced with a 4th and 1 and called timeout, our QB Chad Nelson got the 1st on a naked bootleg, and we added 5 yards with a facemask penalty. After a few short runs, coach Gage called our a timeout with under a minute left in the game. We were not a team known for our passing game, and facing a 3rd and long we called a option pass, QB faked the option droped back, the Mac secondary bit real hard on the fake and Nelson hit a wide open Ladarin McClain on the 13 yardline. Coach Gage called our last timeout with about .20 left, we ended up running a play, giving the ball to our big FB Dwayne Brazzel, he busted up the middle for a TD with under .17 left in the game. We kicked the extra point to go up 43-37, Mac then took the kickoff and returned it to around our 40, they had time for one last play and we were able to sack Odell James to end the game. In my mind this was one of the greatest championship games ever played, it also brought us our first state title.

I still think the most exciting finish of the year last year was the SLC/Abilene game, had Abilene scored, me and my buddy's dad felt there would be to much time left on the clock for Carroll, but the Dragon defense put to rest any thought of that.

Can't remember the exact year but Abilene High vs Cooper. Cooper had like a two TD lead with about 3:00 minutes left. AHS came back sent it to OT and won in OT. I think that was the first of three barn burners in a row between the two schools. In fact in one of them both schools were ranked in the top five in state.

1998, North Mesquite vs. Garland at Williams Stadium. Tough, defensive struggle that went to OT. Garland scored a TD on their first possesion but missed the extra point. NM scored on three plays and lined up for the winning extra point. It was blocked, and LB John Allen ran it back for the winning points. I'll never forget watching him streak down the NM sideline, with Stallion players chasing him and the Garland bell gaurds running the flag behind them. It wasn't a playoff game, but it's one of the most amazing finishes I've ever seen...

I'll never forget the Carter vs Marshall Quarter-Final game in 1988 when Marshall scored and it seemed as if they had the game wrapped up. Carter got the ball back, droved down the field, and Jessie Armstead scored a TD as a tight end in his only offensive play of the season with about 13 seconds left.

I am not sure what year this was, perhaps it was 1998, but I am not sure. It was Garland against North Mesquite and this game had pretty big time district title implications (I think Mesquite ended up winning the district that year because they beat Garland towards the end of the year, but North Mesquite could have won it too. I am not sure). North Mesquite scored with no time left to make the score 13-13. All they had to do to win the game was to kick the extra point. Garland blocked it, and then ran it all the way back for the 2 points and won the game 15-13.

The late fourth quarter interception during the 1995 Judson vs. Permian state championship game final score was 31-28.

That was a fantastic finish, I remember it well, the sidelines were going crazy.
I also have to throw in a vote for the Tyler Lee vs Woodlands triple overtime playoff game in 2004. (although the winner had to face North Shore....)

Last years SLC vs Abilene game was outstanding also.
