Many of us or biased with only noting strengths when discussing our home teams, and the weaknesses when discussing other teams (only some of us). I would like to see some discussion on strenghts as well as weaknesses with not only your own team, but teams that you follow whether you love them or hate them. I know the season hadn't started yet, but discuss from what you gather ahead of time, or what your team has alway's had a reputation for.
This should give some of us the opportunity to see our rivals not only say the negatives about their own and our teams, but something positive at the same time about both teams.

Carter
Strengths--> defense, rushing attack, fresh RB's, speed on both sides of the ball, and pass coverage.
Weaknesses--> to conservative with little pass attack, new QB, smaller o-line than usuall, and can get hot headed with opposing team or refs.

for the last few years, slc has had the worst kickoff coverage i've ever witnessed. i don't know the average return yards or the average starting spot after ko return, but i'd bet it is one of if not the worst in the state. it continously put the defense in a bind and certainly led to several tds for the opposition that under normal circumstances wouldn't have occorred. considering the ko team did more work than any other ko team in the state, it is even more damaging. it speaks very highly of the slc defense that they were able to be successful even when spotting the opposing offense an extra 15-20 yds on almost every ko return.
the punting has also been very weak the last couple of years. luckily that isn't nearly as frequently used, and so hasn't been as detrimental. of course, one could blame a 1 point loss on a blocked punt, and a near loss on another. one of my favorite moments of all time was seeing aaron luna covering a kick from chase daniel. it is what i had been begging for all year.
all in all, it is a testiment to the overall strength of the rest of the team to be able to win "consistently" thru such mediocre special teams play.
the situation may come back to haunt slc, and it is easily rectified, but there's definitely a method to dodge's madness along these lines. at 47-1, i'll simply recognize the problem and leave the solutions to him.

Wow I never thought of this, but Southlake might have one of the only teams that the Kickoff team could become worn down!

nah, you could just plug in other people from the sideline. its a rather simple concept, run and stop the guy with the ball.

sounds easy. hasn't been so for the post hartley years. maybe we forgot how with his propensity to go out of the end zone.

Hastings- Deffense, no offense
Elsik- Offense, no deffense
FB Kempner- discipline and deffense, no offense
FB Bush- disciplined D, no offense
FB Marhsall- Athleticism, no discipline period
FB Hightower- The Academy. Coaching Change causes havoc.
Cinco Ranch- Offense, no composure
Strake Jesuit- Composure, no depth.

weakness is size and attitude. these kids need to believe more in themselves and I believe that is starting to transistion. another weakness for us this year will still be youth, we return a lot of starters from a year ago but then again that team was 1-9.
Strentghs are the same as weakness, youth, they will get better each week and did so a year ago, a non-district schedule that is not that tough could be all the confidence these kids need in believing in a new system and maybe elevating them to a playoff spot.

that was our same problem in 93 and 96, had great defenses but no kick coverage, I swear every kickoff we had in 93 teams would start from around the 40. In the playoffs Midland Lee had a 103 yard return on us and the only offense Burleson or SGP could generate in the 1st 2 rounds was on kick returns. We almost let Aldine Mac return a kickoff for a TD with less than .20 left to win the game. It can get very frustrating.

Humble
Strength- Loads and Loads or talent on the offense. A power/speedster Running back in reggie brown. Robert perry (WR) great hands, also avrg 18.1 yards a catch last year. THE D- very fast and very big, and the talent is abundant. Overall they are a very talented bunch that can give any top 10 team in the state a run for thier money.
Weakness- historically speaking humble has always been a very undisplined team, and until they prove otherwise that is how i will view them. Also they arent as deep as they have been... While they have one of the most talent packed teams since the late 90's, they still cant afford to get to many injuries.

Very true. Humble is always loaded to the teeth.
I remember Jason Bondzio was there for what seemed like 6 years kicking the ball. But every year yall lost to Katy just like we did, except we had the pleasure of meeting them in the first round of the play-offs.

For those of us that have followed North Shore Football for the last 4 to 5 years can attest that the weakest part of these teams have been themselves. They can be their own worst enemy. Not the competition. North Shore teams seem to have it all. Speed, power, offense, defense, special teams - If they can put it all together in the post season and not beat themselves - then they will go all the way.

San Antonio MacArthur
Strength
Offense
Eight returning starters on offensive
2nd year running the spread offense
Six returning skill players on offense
QB-Schmid
RB-Craig
RB-Shram
WR-Odom
WR-Lofton
TE-Williamson
Defense
Seven returning starters on defense
D-Line returns Hickman DE, Perez DT, Johnson DT
LB-All 4 return with Gallegos coming back to LB from DT
Gallegos, Montdragon, Kinney, Ricker
This front 8 that Mac will put on the field will play with any team in 265a
Weakness
Offense
O-line is small and depth doesn't have much varsity experience
Defense
DT are small compared to normal lines
Corners and Safety are juniors getting first year varsity play. They have great speed but will have to adjust to the quickness of the varsity game.
Overall this team will be the best they've had since 1999. Good speed on offense with a QB that understands the spread (65% comp last year). From time to time Craig will move to the slot with Kyle in the backfield along with Schram and this will give Schmid 5 options to throw to. Not many teams can cover all 5 (if any).
Defensively the front 8 will keep teams in check. The challenge will be how well the outside corners and safeties play. If they can make the adjustment, this team will make the playoffs and challenge for the district title.

Additional Weakness
Discipline is another area of weakness that Carter has been known for. I feel that they have made positive strides in that area, but not enough were the label can be removed. I think it will get even better this year.

JOHN TYLER
PROS: Very good coach, speed everywhere basically, assitant coaching very good, and very good physical conditioning.
CONS: Very inexperienced defense especially in the secondary; lack of depth on both lines.

Carroll's chalenge this year, IMO, is to re-load the O & D lines. There is enough skill/experience, scattered in the other positions to play at a high level.
