View Full Version : SA Churchill has two D1 QB's in class of 2007
This may be the first time in high school football history, that a team will have two D1 QB's in the same recruiting year (sort of):
1. QB Nick Fanuzzi has committed to Miami
2. QB Blair Peterson is being recruited by New Mexico, Idaho and Idaho State. I believe New Mexico has offered him.
**Peterson was the QB for Churchill in 2003. He was receiving interest from Louisville and Florida, but was not offered. He went on a mission for two years and is now back in the recruiting trail, two years later.
So in a weird way, Churchill will have two D1 Qb's sign in the recruiting class of 2007.

Ya, I remember him. Hopefully he'll find a college home and do well.

What he means is the guy is a Mormon and went on a mission for 2 years after he graduated high school and now that he's back in the U.S., he wants to resume his athletic career and plans on signing a football scholarship at a D1 university. He doesn't mean that 2 QB's on this year's team are getting a scholarship.

Ah, ok, got it. I was about to say.....
Here's an interesting article on Peterson:
Blair Peterson 6'3 220 San Antonio Churchill
The Hoosiers have been looking far and wide in their search for a quarterback to add to their 2007 recruiting class. They have offered signal-callers from Michigan, Texas, and Missouri, but who could have guessed their next quarterback could be throwing passes in South America right now?
That's where 21-year old Blair Peterson is currently finishing up his church mission right now. The San Antonio native has spent the last three years in Argentina spreading the word of God, but he hasn't forgotten about the game he loves—football.
"While he has been on his mission he has kept at it," said Blair's father, John Peterson, who currently is a college scout for the Seattle Seahawks and has been associated with football for his entire life. "He will be up at four in the morning to get his cardio work in and down there when they take the siesta from 1-4 in the afternoon that's when he gets his passing and weight work in. He has really been training hard."
Peterson has been training hard in anticipation of his return to the States this fall. When he gets back he will resume his recruitment full-throttle by taking several official visits before enrolling at a college this January as a greyshirt. The Hoosiers, along with four other schools, have already offered scholarships to the 2004 high school graduate.
"He does have an offer from IU," said Mr. Peterson. "Their staff called and communicated with us two weeks ago and they e-mailed Blair with the announcement. He does check and return his e-mails down there once a week. He was very happy to get that offer and that's where it stands right now.
"He will be taking an official visit to Indiana once he gets back in the fall, probably around November so he can hopefully watch a ball game there over the weekend. He's interested in IU no doubt about it.
"He will also be taking official visits to North Carolina State, Boston College, and Colorado, but those schools haven't offered yet."
The 6-foot-3, 220 pound quarterback has been on the Hoosiers radar for awhile now. That's because this isn't Coach Terry Hoeppner's first go-round with Peterson, a player that he has recruited before.
"When he came out of high school in May of 2004 he had official visits to Louisville, Florida, and was scheduled to take one to Miami (OH) where Coach Hoeppner was at the time," said Peterson. "That was the same year that Roethlisberger had just finished his last season there. For whatever reason the visit didn't happen, though. Coach Hoeppner had lots of tape on him and was very interested in him. I happened to talk with Coach Hoeppner at the Senior Bowl that year while I was down there doing scouting work for the Seahawks and we got to talk so we already knew him.
"What I did more recently was call the quarterback coach at IU, Matt Canada, about Blair and sent the tape there. When Matt looked at the tape he liked it and when he showed the tape to Coach Hoeppner he of course remembered Blair from a few years ago."
What the Hoosier coaching staff saw on the tape was a big, strong quarterback that could make all the throws. It didn't take them long to decide to offer.
"He is more of a pro-style, West Coast quarterback," said Peterson. "First of all, he is a left-hander. He is a big, strong kid. He's 6-foot-3, 220 pounds and well put together, because he is a lifter and loves to train. He has a good arm and is very intelligent so he knows how to read coverages and make good decisions. He has enough wiggle and shake to elude and create things in the pocket. He runs approximately a 4.7 so he is certainly not slow by any stretch. He's tough and physical.
"A lot of college recruiters when he came out of high school thought he looked a lot like a young Dave Ragone, the former Louisville quarterback, because he is a big strong left-hander. He probably has a lot more quickness than Dave did, though. He's a downfield passer and pocket pressure doesn't bother him. He can make all the throws."
The interest in Peterson continues to grow. While he holds five scholarship offers right now, several other schools could be close to offering as well.
"New Mexico called last week and offered," said Peterson. "He now has offers from New Mexico State, UTEP, Idaho, and Indiana also. He also has a lot of interest from Boston College, Colorado, Michigan, and NC State, but they have not offered him at this point.
"Earlier this year he was one of the top four quarterback prospects for Michigan. They ended up getting an early commitment from Ryan Mallett, so they might be done at the position, but they told him if they take a second quarterback in this class it would be him. I don't know how that would sit with him, obviously Mallett is a very premier quarterback and they are committed to him."
What Peterson does know about his son's feelings is that he is genuinely interested in IU. The Petersons are quite familiar with Coach Terry Hoeppner's spread offense and think it would be a great fit for a pass-first quarterback like Blair.
"Throwing the ball is No. 1 to him, that's premier, he's a passer so he wants that," said Peterson. "What Coach Hoeppner has done with his offense and how he worked with Roethlisberger is a big plus. I would think that they are very popular right now.
"He's really interested in IU. He really is. I used to be a high school coach in Indiana early in my career for a couple of years and I have been to Indiana's campus and it's very nice. It's a quality institution and a great program so I think it would be a great fit."

It's amazing to see some of these high-profile HS players. I don't remember anything about that guy and he never did anything to distinguish himself vs. Judson:
2002 Judson 44 Churchill 2 in an 1-9 season.
2003 Judson 49 Churchill 14 in a 4-6 season.

That was pretty much true up until 2000.

Yeah, I remember during our Macarthur days (the dark age as I call it:p ) I remember they were some things about them. All I really cared about then was that the boys in blue would win and that someday I'd be one....lol, that went ta hell in a hand basket.

That's true, but it still seems like I would've seen something to let me know he was that good. All I remember was Churchill was that bad.
