they may be starting school before they can do more than one day. the uil decides when practice can begin, based on the start of games. the isd decides when school begins. tough to do rigorous 2 a days during school.

Exactly right. For teams that had spring practice, the first day to start in the summer is August 14th. In Odessa, school starts August 14th. No 2 a days for us.

I've done almost 10 years of active duty military service. Other than one 8 month training school I did out in California.
The hardest physical training I've been through was 2-days during my high school days in Texas. There was a few times I thought I was going to die !!!
Plus, I was in good shape.. I felt bad for the big boys !!!

My old high school coach was one of the Junction Boys. He was always telling us, over our one water break over a 2.5 hour practice, that we were a bunch of lightweight girls compared to the guys over in Viet Nam. He'd just bust our chops about how we could be living in the swamps, getting shot at, blah blah blah. But, man were we ever in good shape. This was in the Galveston (mainland) area. Lots of humidity and fireants. Makes you tougher. That one water break thing was insane. We had some many dehydrated players. Salt tablets were the norm. Lots of them. Especially during 3 a days. Yep, we had 3-a-days. It would have been a lot better had we had the ability to hydrate like today's players. But, he was trying to toughen us up. Water was for sissies. :)
I never knew he'd been abused by the Bear in Junction until that ESPN movie came out. Then after the premier showing, there was a roundtable discussion of the JB's that were still alive. Lo and behold, there was old jerkoff. It suddenly explained a lot to me. Like the proverbial lightbulb went off. I was immediately on the phone with a buddy that I used to line up next to. Insanity explained. (never got an explanation of his battle cry.... run, run, run, punt.)

Trinity starts on the 14th also. I was surprised about the no 2 a days thing.
I remember doing 2 a days 2 weeks before school started. I never really exercised during the summer, I was always working. When 2 a days started we were so out of shape. We were puking. I always remembered that the next morning after the first practice, my legs would be so sore it was hard to walk. I remember questioning if I wanted to play football. This was one a the many things, I believe made me who I am today; and kept me out of trouble.

Life is funny isnt it....
PS. I played High school in the late 80's. The whole "water break" still wasnt the norm. Same deal, water was for sissy weak players and basically water was a reward for putting out. Looking back on it as an adult. The coaches and us were "DAMN LUCKY" that no one died for heat stroke. We had a few players drop from dehydration "heat exhaustion" and basically you got teased the next day for passing out. I mean even the coaches teased ya.

that is insane. Plano never did that. we had 2 to 3 offical water breaks during our 8 practice periods per session.
My 2 a a adays at N Texas was hard core 3 weeks in Kerr hall. Morning practice on the concrete turf of fouts than afternoon practice on grass. After morning practice we would run 5 to 7 350's (1 time around the football oubound) I'll never forget the 6AM wake up calls when the trainers walk down the hall banging on each dorm room with a racketball racket. You could here that SOB 30 doors down getting closer and closer. When it's Tuesday morning and you still have 10 more days of that. IT SUCKED!!

we were a week from graduating Marine Boot Camp when our Senior Drill Instructor was addressing the platoon. He recognized some of the guys who had lost a bunch of weight and so on. then he asked the question, " is there anyone who is in worse shape now than when they got here?" I couldn't resist and told him 2-a-Days in Wichita Falls were way tougher than bootcamp. I proudly told him as I went to the Pit for some extra work(his response to my smart remark)," that any kid that makes it through 4 years of Texas High School football can handle the physical part of bootcamp- no problem, but putting up with basketball lovers from North Carolina( his home state) was a totally different task!
That got me about 30 minutes of various exercises- which really have very little effect by this time because you're so sick of sitting in a classroom and making your uniforms perfect, you'll do something funny just to get the blood flowing again, AND I got 30 minutes to think back to "my playin days."

I went through Marine Corps boot camp also, and wasn't impressed. I thought high school football training was harder. Even harder yet was training for my first martial arts black belt. Before boot camp started, I started training real hard in anticipation; and it turns out that I trained harder than what boot camp really was. Where do you go through boot camp? I went through in San Diego.

San Diego,
when it got over 85, they black flagged( no physical activity) the base, which I thought was pretty ironic, since you don't get to call timeout in war when it's hot, but anyway,
2-a-days in Wichita Falls were tough, my junior year, I did the Hotter-n-Hell hundred and went to afternoon practice. That was how good of shape I stayed in. I loved to work out!!!
now I get tired just remembering:p .

They didn't have those flags when I was on active duty. I will say this, I froze at night time in San Diego. This was in the summer. Being a Texan, I love the heat. Humpin didn't bother me in the heat. It was night time, and in the morning, We Texans would be shivering.

Good ole Kerr, its a finals traditon for me to eat breakfast there before each final, love the cafeteria but the dorm is terrible. If you havent been on campus lately the new athletic dorms are awesome, they went from Santa Fe to Traditions and those are some of the nicest dorms I have ever been in. However their cafeteria is no match for Kerr.

no military service for this "clown" however when i was in HS 96-2000 I attended a private school and we never started school till after Labor day. We were allowed to start practice on the 3rd or 4th of august and we would have a conditioning test then the next two days were spent moving weight equipment and all our practice equipment onto a trailor and we would head out to Camp Copas on the shores of beautiful Lewisville Lake for 3 weeks of 3 a days. We would practice from 7:30-10:00 with out conditioning being 5 stations of agilities then have a 30 minute film session and 30 minutes of weights. Lunch would last till 12:30. From 3-4 we would conduct special team practices usually in just shorts and shoulder pads but still rigiourous as no one could stand around. After dinner we would practice from 6:30 till dark usually 8:45ish with our conditioning being 2 400's (quarters) the first week 3 the second and 4 the last with about a minute to 2 rest. It still remains the toughest thing I have ever done especially not even having the luxury of sleeping in your own bed, but we always came out of camp in better shape than our opponents which played into our advantage come september games. It is the reason we were able to beat Celina in 97 just wore them down.
