I have been in Texas (Austin) since March. Football season is coming up and I won't be able to get back to Louisiana every weekend to watch Football. So, I am wondering what team (if any) is worth going to see in this area. I prefer a team that airs the ball out often and has a defense that likes to try and kill the opposing offense.

Any suggestions?

Austin Westlake
Leander
Pflugerville
Copperas Cove (if you can drive some)

I do plan on getting over to Midland to see a game at some point in the season. I want to see what all the fuss was about. And some team called South Carroll or something. From reading this board, they seem to be pretty hot.

I really dont know much about Texas ball. The only Texas teams I've ever seen play have been some Tyler Team, Longview, Dallas Carter, Lufkin, and Marshall. ECA played Texas High and Abilene last year, but I was unable to attend those.

Are the schools you listed 5a?

i'll tell you this, if you go see SouthLakeCarrol you are in for a treat they're damb impressive, they look like a College team, heck, Katy, SmithsonValley, Longview, Abiline, Lufkin, Converse Judson, Midland Lee, LaMarqe, Ennis, Tyler Lee are all amongst the best in the State and can play with the best teams in the country.....in your area, Leander, Pflugerville High and Pflugerville Connolly, Austin Weslake are all pretty good teams, as well as Austin Lake Travis...they will all provide some good fun to watch football..

What town is Southlake Carroll in? I'd like to see them play just so I can know what all the hoopla is about. I like to watch really good HS teams.
Back home, we dont have but a few that are really good.

SLC is in Dallas.......you may get to see them play in the playoffs because they usually play closer to Austin....in Waco or San Antonio.

You should go to the Austin Westlake/Leander game........first game of the year.

Southlake is in Tarrant county, between Grapevine and Keller. Actually, you cant get to Southlake from Austin.

The Westlake Leander game i may have to go and see. I will find a schedule. I will be back in Shreveport to watch ECA play Springdale Ark. for their first game. But I think they start a week after Texas. That would be pretty kool actually.
I could see Westlake/Leander, then ECA/Springdale, then pick something, then ECA/Longview. then go from there..

I'm glad there are other football nuts over here...

This should be the end to your problems if you're willing to drive a bit. But, since you're talking about going back to Louisiana to see some football, I figured you are. It has Southlake Carroll, the #1 ranked Texas team, taking on Midland Lee, #25. Then later, Abilene (the team that beat Evangel 19-14, #16 in state, #3 in region) vs. Lubbock Monterrey (unranked). Also, if you want even more football, there's a Friday night matchup between Clyde and Ballinger.

GoFridayNight.com Champions Classic

When: Aug. 26-27

Where: Shotwell Stadium (capacity 15,075) <<<This is often filled to over capacity at the Abilene High vs. Abilene Cooper games.

Who: Ballinger vs. Clyde (7:30 p.m., Aug. 26); Southlake Carroll vs. Midland Lee (2 p.m., Aug. 27); Abilene High vs. Lubbock Monterey (7 p.m., Aug. 27).

Am currently making plans to go to that one. I cant do the 26th game. but the 27th is wide open for me. and i wont have to miss the ECA season opener.
Y'all RAWK over here. I will have to see about getting myself 2 tickets. I actually have a fiance' that is pretty nuts about a good football game too.

Thanks for the info.

If you're in the Austin Area, the game that you need to see week one is Leander vs Westlake like everybody had been mentioning. And going to Southlake, to see Southlake Carroll would be fun. If you go to that game odds are you'll be watching the best team in the nation.

If you are interested in seeing SLC play, I suggest the game on the last Friday of September vs Colleyville Heritage. The game will be played across the hwy from SLC's stadium at Panther/Mustang stadium. Two of the most recruited QB's in the state will take the field.

Also another good one is Tyler Lee @ Waco High at the new Waco ISD Stadium.....that is always a good one.

I plan on going to see ECA play Longview...and going to go see Tyler Lee play the Florida team and Ohio team.

Hey you can watch the Lufkin vs Southlake Carroll game at this link http://cityoflufkin.com/panthers.htm. Then click on the KUEZ version link. That is a good one to watch and then you can see how good Southlake is. There are other games too. The Lufkin vs Longview game and the Lufkin vs The Woodlands game is a good one to watch. There are several games going back to 2002. I hope they hold you over untill the season starts. Let us know what you think once you watch the LP vs SLC game. Two great teams!!!

Good luck getting a ticket. Those 15,000 tickets will go quick IMHO. By the way Redneckn, ECA's defense was hands down the best we saw last year. Very fast and very talented.

I agree about the ECA D last year. It was really a shame we didn't have the offense to match it. If we had, we would have been unstoppable. But, you can't be on top every year. I think it was good for the team if nothing else to be humbled a little.

In the next few years Calvary Baptist in Shreveport will become a power as well. Another great coaching story is building over there.

I just talked with Fiance'. She thought that as well. So we may not go. Maybe catch SLC playing at some other point. We will attend an Austin game instead. I'm kinda curious 'bout the boys around here.

I will be in town that whole weekend. I don't think I will stay for much of the Lv/WM game though. WM fans get right under my skin and "baby" won't let me get all rowdy.. :)
Really though, I have ZERO interest in WM and the only interest I have in LV is seeing ECA play them. WM bores me to tears, there are 1A schools back home I'd rather watch play. Wait. ECA is 1A..hahaha..

I would like to see ECA play Southlake. That, I think would be a good game. But I guess before I wish that, I should wait and see what ECA has this year.

That would be somewhere in the Dallas area though right?
I don't go to Dallas unless I am made to go. The driving there doesnt suit me and I get road rage real bad. I would like to see Dallas Carter play sometime, so perhaps I can get "Baby" to drive and we can get up that way. I saw DC play ECA a few years back. I figure they must have gotten better since then.

I think he meant there isnt a direct path on just one highway, meaning it would take some careful driving when you have to change roads. Which might be a little unnerving to a non-native of texas.

first off, welcome to the board.....secondly, you should definitely know the name of Longview, right???--LOL.......if you think Louisiana football is something, then you will be amazed by watching Texas highschool football in person.....ECA is probably, hands-down the best that you have in La.....they are good, don't get me wrong, but if we have handed your tail to you for 3 years in a row, i don't think that you would like to see SLC play ECA---they would dismantle them something terrible--just being honest...there are numerous powerhouses over here, teams are really strong....as for Calvary in Shreveport, i have been waiting on the final "migration" to take place. i know that there are alot of ECA players transferring over there, as well as ECA coaches.....i have also heard the same old "recruiting" tales about Calvary that ECA has been accused of for years.....do these rumors hold any water??? no doubt that Calvary is a couple of years away from another ECA type of team......fill me in a little and again, welcome to the "REAL" highschool football state...................................

Well, I knew it wouldn't take too long for a LV fan to come calling. All that smack. In all honesty, I was impressed with LV the first 2 wins. Last year. NOPE. I was very disappointed in the whole game. Also, I feel like last year ECA spent half of the season shooting themselves in the foot more than anything else. We could go over and over, but it is pointless, LV thinks they won, I think ECA gave it away. Trying to play too much East Texas ball. And that would be run run run! When ECA play ECA ball, throw throw throw, they can NOT be stopped.

That is another discussion though. I would really rather leave last year to last year. After having my tires punched out last time we played in LV, I was really let down by the people there. I do realize that not everyone there is like that. And I had similar type things happen in Louisiana. But that is to be expected in La. hahaha... This year is what counts right now. We'll know in another coupla months.

As for the recruiting.. NO. I went there, my sister went there, and my moms still works there. That is crap and everybody knows it. They are all just trying to figure out how it is that ECA takes an average kid and turns him into a team of real true players. A real team. COACHING. This, everyone will see when Calvary starts to turn out H U G E numbers just like ECA. I am really looking forward to that rivalry. I think a lot of people are.

Thanks for your welcome to Texas and Texas Ball... I am really excited about getting to see some good Texas type football.. I am just hoping that I can see some good arms put the ball down the field.
Perhaps I can come up to LV for a game other than ECA and we can watch LV stomp somebody. Maybe I will stay for the LV/WM game and sit on the LV side and see. I would rather give it another chance since I am trying to make Texas my home and dont want any negative feelings for anyone here.

A note on Texas since you all are Texans. Why is everyone so nice here? It is spooky. I have not run across anybody crappy since I got here. Is that normal?

I've gotta get, I am moving furniture (women????) and trying to watch this Lufkin/Southlake game on the computer.

Bleed will tell you I wasn't impressed with either team in the Longview-ECA game last year, but the Lobos did have an alibi. They had to throw the backup in there and still won a road game out of state.

This year's state title game may be played in September. Go to Converse to see Judson play Smithson Valley on 30 Sep 05. It's a district game and both teams are in almost everybody's Top 10 and could conceivably win state titles since we have 2 5A champs.

I was going to talk crap at this Evangel fan but then i realized Evangel beat my Lufkin Panthers in 2000 and 2001. But then i thought about it and i realized Lufkin has beat Longview 9 times in a row and the Lobos have beaten Evangel 3 times in a row that will go up to 4 this year almost guaranteed?? I also remembered that Evangel also beat Longview in 01 so it is obvious the 01 team was 10 times better then the 02-04 Evangel teams mainly due to J Booty. Evangel is 1-4 vs 5a Texas teams since 2002!! Good Luck on your 1a championship this year. You might win every game by 60 points in 1a?? Evangel is a very good team but they have sure went downhill lately if you are going by their usual standards. They are still the best in Lousiana though so egads.

Smithson Valley played at Texas Stadium because the UIL made them. Even though Southlake agreed to play in the Alamodome in '02, and SV did not want to flip Home and Home, the UIL considered it a home game for SV. So when they played again within the 3 year span, SV had to go to the 'Home' field of Southlakes choice.

PACK.
ECA is in 1A because that is where they (state folks) told them to play. They would much rather be in 5A where they belong. The principals would not even hear them to bring a vote to allow them to play 5A because they are tired of not being able to beat them. The only way to keep from having to play ECA is to have ECA as a 1A school.
If I recall, when ECA beat LV we had Berlin at QB. That was some of the best years we ever had really. Since then, we have been a good team, but not a great team. We lost to LV last year, they (LV) may have used a backup QB. ECA had a Texas QB (what was that kids name?) and a WR playing QB. We did lose the game. We did not play ECA football. ECA has never been a real "running" team and I don't think they can be consistant if they are running.
Yes, ECA will have some massive piles of points at the end of games this year. There are already teams that are saying they will forfeit rather than play. I am glad to see that LV is willing to risk getting beat by a 1A Louisiana team. THAT in iteself shows real sportsmanship. That restores some of my respect for LV.

I watched the Lufkin/Southlake game on the net last nite. I was more impressed with Lufkin honestly. I think Southlake is good, but not anymore than Lufkin, Longview, Midland, Abilene. DeLaSalle California could walk all over them in my own opinion. Who is Southlake playing that is from outta state and really good? Like Tyler is playing that school from Ohio. That shows they ain't skeered and are willing to put it on the line on tv.

Just my own opinion though.

I would like to see more Louisiana teams play more Texas teams. Wasn't it Carter (Dallas) that a few years back went all over playing teams?

I still can't wait to see some good Texas ball this year. My parents are going to come over and go see some with me. They are football nuts too.

Well, here at Reagan since every kid has a car, they amde it only Juniros and Snieors can drive and I just become eligible this year and I got my license a few months back.

I'll try to make a SLC game....see if I can work it into my schedule.

I'll definately try and get to a playoff game cause there are no other games being played and it'll be on a day that's better suited for me.

If SLC ended up playing against SV again where would the playing site be?
