Jerrod Caroll, OLB for Abilene in '04, All-State Defensive Player of the Year. Liked baseball more, I think.

Shannon Brazzell from Lewisville- started all four years 92-95 and was all state for 3 of those years. Went to TCU but his carrer ended there. I cant recall if he played all four years or not but the guy was a damn good LB
David Ellen - FM Marcus another 4 year starter (94-97) remains the best LB I have ever seeen play in HS. Had great size and speed and his instincts were as good as they came. He went to SMU but like Shannon I cant recall if he played all four years or not.

While he was a pure joy to watch, Jerrod isn't blessed with enough size to go to the next level (at least at LB). He does enjoy his baseball though.

LeBrandon Shepard - Lufkin, the guy was tough and fast. It was lights out when he hit you. He couldn't stay out of trouble, he was as mean off the field as he was on it. Got college scholarships but could stay out of trouble.
What a great linebacker he was for the Panthers.

If this was the best LB who did make the pros then I think most would have Derrick Johnson listed.

Another one I forgot was Mark Casano from The Colony. He was on their 11-1 team in 94 that could have gone deep in the playoffs had it not been for a severe ankle injury to star RB Deandre Mason early in the 2nd quarter. The Colony had a 14-0 lead on Lamar when the injury happend
However Casano was big 6'2 215 and could run with the best of them. He ended up going to USC but like the rest I have mentioned I dont think he saw much playhing time.

Easy. Ta-ta Thompson. One of the best atheletes I have seen come out of Garland High. He had the brains and the body to go very far, but his passion was not there. I think he quit A&M's team after one season...
I believe he wrote and published a book after he left A&M... I remember seeing it a while ago on amazon.com...

oh, i heard about some kid...i think his name was fred miller, played juco at navarro, then he supposedly when to baylor! never heard from him again, but he was supposedly 6'2 1/2 255 pounds - in hs, and a beast! i have no idea what hs he attended!

Labrandon Sheppard (Lufkin) had the talent, skill and speed to be in the NFL and be a solid NFL player. I guess he has thrown all that talent away to hang around Lufkin.
Another player that probably was better then Sheppard and I thought was right with Derrick Johnson coming out of high school was Marvin Byrdsong (Longview). I got to see him play a few times in Longview and he had great size, speed and was a beast at LB. He also had NFL written all over him but somehow it just never worked out for him in college. Went to Mississippi St (SEC) and then tranferred to I think NW State (Southland Conf) and was a pretty solid player. I think he led the team in tackles for 2 seasons. He might work himself into the NFL but odds are against him I think.
I saw all three players in High school (Derrick Johnson, L. Sheppard & M. Byrdsong) and there wasnt much of a difference between all three of them.
Johnson becomes a NFL 1st rounder and they other two ???????

LeBrandon Shepherd - Speed, size, game intelligence but could not keep his priorities straight.
Derick "Moon" White - The hardest hitting linebacker that Lufkin ever produced...not sure what ever happened to him.

I THINK it was some school here in Houston...either Aldine, Ike or Elsik...cant remember but I know who you are talking about.
