Sharrod Harris (UT commit) of Arlington Bowie is out with a hernia and Matthew Stafford (U of Georgia) of Highland Park is out with a dislocated kneecap for up to 6 weeks. Stafford was the MVP of the Elite 11 Camp.

With Harris' injury, i've heard everything from he'll be out for the season, so he'll be out from 2-6 weeks. How long does it take to recover from a hernia, if anybody out there has ever experienced one, or have seen anyone else experience one?

i belive an infection? or something along that under your stomach if im not mistaken? It's a "break" in the stomach muscles where your guts have tendency to try to push through! It depends on the severity of the hernia, but it is easily corrected. It just takes time to heal -- depends on how many stitches.

I had a abdominal hernia removed a few years back. A hernia occurs when there is a tear or cut in the muscle that allows fluid to build in the wound, creating a bubble or pocket type effect. Depending on the location, they can be very painful and serious in nature. The biggest drawback from a hernia surgery, is the absolute down time required to keep from destroying the repair. It all depends on the location, and how many layers of tissue and muscle are affected by the wound itself or the repair.

The period of time it takes him to recover may depend on what type of hernia he has. Abdominal hernias are one type but one of the more common types of hernias in men are inguinal hernias. They are located in the groin and are caused by a weakness in the lower abdominal wall that allows the intestine to protrude and make a bulge. A lot of them can be done by laproscopic surgery and the recovery time is shorter.

The displaced Knee Cap could prove to be worse than the hernia. The surgical fix for that is about a 6 month rehab. Surgery would only be necessary if after the initial rehab period of 3-5 weeks it reoccurs. (assuming he did not tear any ligaments). I also believe this is not something that can be fixed with a scope. You may be able to improve the chances of healing with the scope but you cant fix the torn tissue and minor ligaments/tendens. My understanding is that is not something you can predict.
He should be able to get back after four to five weeks and as long as he braces it up, hopefully it will not come out again. I think it definitely hurts his mobility. Good luck to Stafford. What a crappy break.

Rivals is reporting that he will be ready to start the first game. Must not have displaced his knee cap after all. Bad info.

Apparently some freshmen kid came up from behind and hit him in the legs, now the kid is getting a lot of crap and I heard he was told not to come back to practice. Life sucks for that kid now.

I suffered from a inguinal hernias my junior year. It's a quick procedure where they fill the gap made. I was out for two months total.
