Many teams are fortunate enough to have a nice starting quaterback, but some teams find themselves with a nice back-up underclassman QB that is just as good as their starter or if not better. Let me know about these uknown bench riders and if you might feel that they have bigtime potential. I would like to know who I should look for in the future before everyone and the media starts pumping them up.

Clemens has 2 backups that are juniors and have been alternating for years. They go to camps, have good size, and may be D1 prospects. They might take the starting job away from the Senior QB early in the year.

I remember when Riley Dodge, when we played SLC in 7 on 7 at CHHS, dropped a pass wide open in the end zone... it was funny.

It was a 7 on 7 game, so SLC might've lost that game.

Who ever starts between Drew Dunn or Josh McKinnley will have easily have all district written all over them. Drew was 2nd team last year behind Korey Washington (district mvp) and Clint Bricker (led the district in passing). Josh McKinnley has as strong of an arm as Drew, and is one of the top 3 best athletes on the team. Whoever doesnt start will be one of the states best backups.

I feel that over here at cy falls we probally have the best back-up in the city and maybe the state being J.P. Tillman who recently commited to mossuri (spelled it wrong sry) he's got a VERY strong arm, above average accuracy, and great size having him and our starter David Brekke should set us up to have a great season

Cause Carroll Kid are annoying :)...ANYWAY back on topic...
Coppell doesnt even have a starter yet this season, from what i have herd Senior QBs Nate Blackwell, and Tyler Deloach, and Jr QB Kenny Graves, are all three still fighting for the start, Tyler and Kenny both are the two top cadiates to start. Coppell has had an underclass men QB start the season since 1999

Victoria Memorial backup Michael Nuells (JR)...was offensive MVP for the Vipers JV last season. They finished 8-2 after starting 0-2. He may see some time depending on how the current QB does. He's been injured.

Abilene High has a very good back up that will just be a soph. He is about 6ft. 2in. fast with a strong arm his name is Spenser Lackey.

He's on the JV right now, but they might move him up. Don't forget Braden Kehl.

That Lackey name sure does sound familier. ;) Is there any connection between him and the MLB pitcher John?

that post about 3 QB's at Judson - that was a joke right? Can someone name one good QB to ever graduate from Judson ? I think the most that Judson ever threw the ball was with Stuart Perez back in the 80's. - That had to be a joke didn't it ? I mean I graduated from CJ and I am loyal to this day but - Judson with 3 QB's = they probably have close to 3000 candidates since pretty much anyone can play that position for Judson. Hut hut hike 3 steps back pitch right or left and get out of the way.

While it's way, way premature - Lufkin could be developing a Hill-type qb situation just like Tyler had. Jeremy Claybon's little brother will be the Freshman qb -- he's about 6' 160-- will probably end up in the 6'2 or 6'3 range - great arm and is fast. But, that's a year away -- and nothing is certain.
Most teams are usually pretty thin at qb -- if no. 1 goes down.

I hesitated to post this until now, but Abilene Cooper has a VERY good QB in Zach Stewart. I hesitated, because Zach flirted with dropping football and focusing just on baseball his final two years in high school (he is an outsanding pitcher), but word from campus today was that Zach is back and working with the team. Cooper has produced great QB after great QB for almost 15 years now, but Zach seems like the one guy who has all the physical tools and smarts like the others (Will Galusha, Zach Allen, Jordan Neal, Chris Hall, etc.), but Zach is one of the few that has the physical size to take his game to the Div. I level if he can have a good enough senior year. I have been told Zach is around 6'2 190 as a junior with decent speed. He has a great arm and can move around pretty well. There was a lot of talk that he might take over the starting QB spot from two year starter Chris Hall. I dont know how realistic those expectations were since Chris is such a natural leader with a very good arm, but it shows you how highly people think of him.
In the up and coming department is a kid by the name of Will Casey who could end up being a good one in a couple of years. He helmed one of the freshmen teams last year and is expected to start for the JV this year as a soph. He was the QB for Cooper's 7 on 7 squad this summer (Chris Hall and Zach Stewart both spent the Summer in the Metroplex playing baseball) and he showed some very good signs. He's probably around 6'1 180 or so and has a very good arm. Another year or two working with the coaches and he may be starting and doing well on varsity.

I agree with that. I really see Brett Parsons from The Woodlands getting the starting job, but the senior (not sure of his name) is probably pretty talented too. I watched TWHS in a JV game last year, and even though it was JV, Brett could run the offense like clockwork, it just seemed he had a feel for the game.

Casey Russell, son of former Rangers Pitcher, Jeff Russell, backed up Christian Ponder this year at Colleyville Heritage. He has a very accurate arm and spins the ball very well. I anticipate that he will have a great senior year.

Yeah Casey Russell will be good. He played the last possesion agianst SLC and looked decent.

Riley Dodge is obviously probably up there, but it has now been confirmed since the year has progressed that a healthy Josh McKinnley is the starting qb at 90 to 95% of other teams. He just happened to be behind the districts MVP (most likely) in Drew Dunn.
