I send my condolences!:p
What part of town do you live in? The bigger question is what team's games will you be going to or will you just rotate around the state?

Congrats jtk -- I guess - most folks eventually leave Abilene for various reasons - I did - and look what happened to me - not much.

I really like Abilene though. I'd rather live there than San Antonio. Yes, I know I'm in the minority on that, but it's my vote.

Yeah, I love TEXAS!
I don't think I can ever leave!
Oh, and it doesn't matter WHERE you live. As long as you surround yourself with great friends you'll have a blast where ever you are. I was raised in Victoria and it's a small city, but I had a blast with all my friends there. I have some great memories. And I'm having a blast here in SA...because I have some great friends! :D

There seems to be a lot of crime reports in the Stone Oak & Sonterra area of town. On the Converse city web site they claim to have the lowest crime rate in the metro San Antonio area.

I'm going to post some crime stats and we'll all see that there is a higher crime rate in the other suburbs and San Antonio. All I know is I saw ONE police car on my street in 3 1/2 years that my family didn't call for. It was because a neighbor got into a fight with his wife and hit her in some way. They had him stay in a dorm room on base for a few days before he went back home.

Oh no but Converse has the awesome Rockets! That makes living there so much more bearable! And lets not forget they have NO crime at all!!!!
I liked my neighbors in Converse. I'm not so sure I'd like my neighbors if I lived where you do. It's your right to stick your nose up at Converse, but just remember having money doesn't usually make people hate somebody. It's usually the attitude of the person with the money that makes them hate you.

There seems to be a lot of crime reports in the Stone Oak & Sonterra area of town. On the Converse city web site they claim to have the lowest crime rate in the metro San Antonio area.
And doesn't New York have a lower crime rate than San Antonio? Some people don't report crimes.

Obviously you're gonna say that. You like it in Converse. I like it in my area. I'll tell you what. Leave something valuable in your front yard and I'll do the same here....we'll see whos gets stolen first. Oh, wait, you don't live there. And I've experienced extreme safety in my neighborhood. I'm not gonna list them for obvious reasons. And the only crime we have is people who come into the area....not the people who live here of course.

So you lived and hung out in Converse where you witnessed crime? The numbers show there is a good amount of crime in the Stone Oak & Sonterra.

Like the Liquor store burglaries committed by students who live in your area? Crime is everywhere.

I sorta explained why the numbers could be wrong. I have no problem driving any of our cars around the Stone Oak-Sonterra area....I do have a problem driving them around Converse, thats why I don't bring certain cars there.

Yeah, I did forget about that one. But if I remember correctly, it wasn't in the Stone Oak area. And neither of us know the full details of their motives.
Now before this degenerates into a "mine is better than yours" thread. Lets just agree that we both like our respective areas.

That's true.
Crimes get reported in Converse, but the cops don't always do anything about it. I will say the Converse Police Department is terrible.

That's for 2 reasons:
1. The people who live there don't have as much of a financial crisis to make them desperate enough to blatantly steal from someplace else.
2. The people who live there can steal from work or be dishonest in their day to day dealings to get ahead.
White-collar criminals are just smarter and have more means than the regular joes. The end result is both want money.
I guarantee you there are a fair number of criminals in your neighborhood. They just don't get brought up on charges or ever get tossed in jail.

Yeah, I did forget about that one. But if I remember correctly, it wasn't in the Stone Oak area. And neither of us know the full details of their motives.
Now before this degenerates into a "mine is better than yours" thread. Lets just agree that we both like our respective areas.
I would bet your vehicle problems in Converse stem almost completely from the local population reacting angrily to the perceived, and many times real, sentiments of your fanbase to look down upon the Judson area. Regardless of who you are as person, you have to realize you represent Reagan, who is thought to be an uppity group that thinks they're better than Judson because they have more money and nicer houses. The Clemens people say the same things as do SV and it would be no different if Southlake Carroll was playing Dallas Carter.
I have no problem with success and money and like to have nice things myself, but I'll be honest with you and tell you that I root against richer schools sometimes just because of how the kids and families act.

Again what areas in Converse do you drive in? Why do you have a problem? I know many people who drive all types of vehicles in Converse and they have no problems. Have you even hung out in Converse?

But the robberies were committed by students (allegedly) from your area even though they did it out of your area. I believe you said at one time that you know people (allegedly) who sale and use illegal drugs in your area, last time I checked that is a crime. Again crime happens everywhere.

You can bet there are people who illegally use drugs in his area. Again, money brings better cover to do drugs and the cops don't go after the rich users as much as the poor users. There is no doubt violent crime is reduced in richer parts of town, but one fact many people are forgetting is Randolph AFB is ther largest employer on the northeast side of SA and the VAST majority of employees and families affiliated with the base are upstanding citizens and Converse has a good share of those employees.
Noooooow i remember why this website got old and I dont post as much any more thanks lonny

I didn't mean that in a negative way. I just didn't have anything further to add on the subject at the time.
I have completed my first week here and I have really enjoyed it. I live downtown in a very nice building in a very nice and quiet corner of the area. I'm in walking distance of a lot of cool stuff and the drive anywhere else is relatively short and easy. My internet was hooked up yesterday which brought me great joy while at the same time exposing just how addicted I am to this thing.
I was warned of some occasional bad traffic only to find that the worst traffic I have seen here is a walk in the park compared to crap I have been stuck in on 121, 360 and loop 12 in the Metroplex or anything you'll see at any time of the day on 35 in Austin. I spent all last week commuting from downtown up I-10 to Wurzbach during the heart of rush hour and it never took me more than 15 minutes either way. The construction on I-10 on either side of 410 is a pain and can be somewhat nerve-wrecking the first time you try and drive 55 mph through those narrow lanes with a vehicle as big as mine, but I have quickly grown used to it.
I have yet to have the chance to go out and explore the city, but I really like and am quite comfortable with the paths I have traversed so far. The people are nice and parts of the city are quite beautiful. I suppose I'll be able to get a better feel and understanding for things as the weeks progress.
The heat has been a drawback, but I was not alone. My first day here the bank down the street had a temp of 101 posted. That same day I called a friend in New York who told me the temp at his place was 104 so I can't really complain. His view is better, but my rent is more than $1500 a month less than his, so I win.
Overall, me experience has been nothing but positive so far and I see nothing on the horizon that would indicate a change.

SA is a fun city to live in. Don't listen to Lonny. He lived in Converse. That explains why he hates this area so much LOL
It sounds like you are in a nice area. Find some friends to hang out with and you'll be fine.

I legitimately hate the area because of stuff I saw all over the area:
I hate the roads, which are poorly engineered.
I despise the media, which is atrocious.
I dislike most of the Spurs fans.
I hate how the city cheaps out on everything.
I like the cost of living and the weather is fine. I have no problem with the houses.
The biggest thing for me is that area is just not for me. It shouldn't be that big of a deal because there are other places in Texas I hate more than SA.

It is your assumption and probably theirs that we look down on them. Unless you have hard facts and evidence....I'll be convinced otherwise.
And why is it that if someone has money they're all bad and people try to ostrasize(sp) them?

Cimre does happen everywhere, yes. But it happens more in other places.
Yes, those students were from Reagan. I don't know why they did it but I'm glad they are/were punished. I haven't kept up with the story since it happened. Drugs are a problem everywhere....and from what I hear, Judson has their fair share of it.

My personal opinion is that it is a mixture. I do think it's a legitimate feeling from some of the people who have money. Some people carry that feeling at all times, but I bet many more carry that feeling and don't realize it comes out at times. It really is pretty much a natural feeling. Humans look at situations and compare themselves to others and feel better based upon perceived superiorites. That can be houses, cars, jobs, looks, money, and intelligence. All of us have a tendency to look down upon others.
Some people that don't have money feel inferior because of it. Jealousy plays a large part of the poor hating the rich. People in government and running for government positions have pitted classes against each other for years to exploit them and get rich and obtain their votes. The main thing that makes the people mad is if they feel like somebody is flaunting their possessions by trying to make people take notice. On the other hand, it's just natural that you get more looks when you drive a better vehicle.

Yes crime is everywhere and crime is not recorded as much in some areas as others. Drug dealing and using is probably going on in all parts of the city and I am sure your area might have its fair share also (allegedly).

Oh no but Converse is the most wonderful, awesomest, coolest place EVER.....or so Lonny says.
Converse isn't for everybody, but if you work on the northeast side of SA and want a moderately-priced home, you're in luck. I will attest first-hand that the town is not nearly as bad as what the property values make it look like. My last house in Converse was 800 SF bigger than my current house, but cost the same amount. There are plenty of houses in Converse that I had no interest in living in because I thought they were too crappy, but I always found one's that I did like. Converse has more decent houses than bad houses, though. I would've wanted to live in Converse for the affordable housing even if I didn't like Judson.
I'd like to know you guys housing situations. I know some live with their parents because they're still in school, but I bet a fair number of you live in apartments. Don't think for a minute that you guys are better off living in an apartment than I was living in a house in a town that you don't like. I'll be the first to tell you that I hate apartments, but I hate crappy houses, too. Crappy, wood houses brings more crime and worse neighbors and I don't want that for me or my kids. Basic economics determine where you live most of the time. I had a certain amount I wanted to pay in SA and always got more for my money in Converse. The housing I lived in was far better than the vast majority of houses in SA. I made more money by myself than the average household income.
Man, I could've lived in a real nice place if I wasn't going through a divorce and had a wife who was working. You guys don't have any sense of reality if you can't figure out that I had a good deal in Converse living in a 2300 SF house with a single income and having to pay over $800/month in child support.

I don't really view it as a robbing because Judson deserved to win. For me, it was the just the focal point for the Rockets to rally around and start their playoff run. That game was the epitome of Rocket Pride. I listened to that Reagan-Churchill game over in Kyrgyzstan and just felt great about Judson's chances vs. Reagan. I could just imagine Rackley telling the boys about 28 straight years of winning records being on the line as a 4-4 (before MacArthur) and 5-4 (before Reagan) team. They rallied around that when they went 6-4 in 2003 when they had to beat an undefeated Roosevelt team knowing they had slim playoff hopes. I just felt like Reagan gave Judson another life and they wouldn't waste it. Basically, Judson had a lost season, but nobody killed the beast. They had injuries and problems with the offense, but the carrot was there for the taking and they seized the day like they almost always do. There is just something about the month of November that brings out the best in Judson. They have to have like a 90% winning percentage in November since 1980.
Judson has won at least 3 playoff games in 18 of 26 years in 5A. They missed the playoffs in 4 of the 8 years they didn't win 3 playoff games and that makes them 56-4 off the top with the two 2nd-round exits and two 1st round exits in November. Judson is 46-6 in the 9th (22-4) and 10th (24-2) games in 5A with some of those games in October and some in November. That puts them in the range of 80-6 for November plus however many of the 9th games were also in November.
SV and Reagan play Judson in November this year!:D
