Colleyville should contend for a spot. I think Grapevine, Keller, Northwest have a chance with Haltom as my sleeper pick for a playoff spot.

anyone know anything about northwest? the only thing i know about them is they have a brand new stadium we wont be able to see till next year

I guess your "no line" comment means you were not impressed last year (they were 3-7)... since the entire line returns (3 full time starters and 1 other that started 2 games.) The QB Farley is decent. The real problem and kt spoke of it is the defense where only 1 (I thought there were 2) starters return. I think Northwest and Richland vie for the bottom spot. SLC gets the nod for now (if they do it this year with only 4 starters back that will be a huge doing but they have proven before they can.)

Northwest was pretty tough last year. Thier QB is back as well as thier running back Drew Ashley who had a huge year last year and will give Tre a run for his money. Northwest's only challenge will be SLC. Watchout for Northwest if they arent in the top three I'd be surprized.I guess your "no line" comment means you were not impressed last year (they were 3-7)... since the entire line returns (3 full time starters and 1 other that started 2 games.) Well to answer your question both are really that bad and I know most of the kids at both schools. Last year Central was 3-7 in 9-4a with their three wins coming in the preseason against weak teams (OD Wyatt, Joshua and Springtown). Central barely won those and tried to give them away. The players at central don't like their coach and it's created alot of morale problems. I watched 4 Keller Games they were terrible and their line is even worse, though Cal Farley was a shining star and #3 was impressive at times.
If I were a gambler and I'm not, I'd bet the farm on these predictions.

If the concensus thus far holds for the top four spots, it appears that Carroll will be headed to Division I this season.

If Carroll goes big school, the route in terms of number of games played will now be the same as in small school. Whether or not it is "easier" depends upon what other schools are in the bracket. However, given the number of new players that Carroll will have this year, it is not at all going to be an easy trip. But I can appreciate where you were coming from.

I don't know whether I would call it an easier route but Division II has more talent, better teams and 1 more game. I believe the earlier playoff games will be less competitive than what the Dragons are use to in Division II. If they get past the 3rd or 4th round of the playoffs in Division I, that next game will be almost as competitive as prior games in Division II.

If SLC and Lufkin don't match-up again this year, it will be very disappointing!! I believe Lufkin has a great team and deserves their #1 ranking, but I am not sure they can beat the Dragons this year either. I believe SLC is in Lufkin's head. I think they come out in week 15 and are beat before the game starts! I will say however, they are my 2nd favorite team and if SLC goes Division I and Lufkin goes Division II, I will pull for both to win State Championships!!

Thats not the case seeing that both DI and DII have 64 teams in them now, we wont now how everything shapes out talent wise until it actually happens this yr. In the past the large schools have had it easier, but if a team like SLC can slip into DI, how can you say no other previously DII schools wont. Which would make it very difficult to say which bracket is tougher before there even is a bracket.

SLC is NOT in Lufkins head, trust me. They put up one heck of a fight when they play us. They are not the kind of team that gets beat before the game even starts, trust me.. dont count them out until that clock is at 0:00. I would also like to see SLC and Lufkin State champs next year, but theres plenty of football to be played before that can happen.

I agree, the second you think your "in Lufkins head", they will smack ya! The Dragons have played some great football over the years and we as fans are fortunate to be able to watch them play. Maybe we'll have another good year this year..time will tell..

A bit of interesting news regarding the new Dragon regime. One of the apparent starting receivers Blake Tomlin, ran a 4.2 40 yard dash this week as the boys are timing in their last week of the performance course. The next best time was 4.3 for Riley Dodge.
That bodes well for replacing some of the speed lost from last year.
Can't wait for August 26th. It's going to be a fun year watching the new guys step up.
GO DRAGONS!

both are fast, but are not world class sprinters as those times indicate. there should be plenty of speed on both sides of the ball. hope the big uglies can get the job done.

Alot of Southlake players have been working with speed and strength coaches pretty hard this summer.
Having played cornerback and receiver, I'm not impressed with speed.
I was a fast sprinter, but that does not change the fact that defensive backs had a head start on me.
As a fast cornerback, I could get beat by a slow receiver who were smart by using fakes, being imaginative with their routes. Another ability is to be able to rapidly slow down, which is where I might get burned.

But to get back to the original thread subject, No coach in this district can come close to making game time adjustments better than Coach Dodge. And to add to this, The players do a great job of listening, and executing those game time adustments.

dragonsdaddy
07-26-2006, 02:23 PM
the game time adjustments are as realtime as intra-play adjustments. we will miss the moxie and seemingly esp ability of mckay j who could mindmeld with the qb to get both him and the ball to the open spot on the field at the same time. defensively, halftime adjustments have won several games thru the years. the brains on that side of the ball are still in place too.
