trying not to be scooterific, i'll say that the lowly haltom buffs may have the 2 best players in 5-5a. their mlb is a stud. big, fast, and dangerous. their wr is also one of if not the best we saw last year, as a jr. sorry i don't remember their names, but you'll hear of them if you listen very long.

QB-Drew Dunn Leander(Beatty has the arm and size to be division one, but Drew was 2nd team all district last year so he gets the nod)

RB- Antwan Cobb Pflugerville (hands down, i dont know where KT2000 and ktchamp97 are getting Cameron Rogers from)

WR- Travis Njuko Leander (1st team all district, leader of the team)

TE- Derrick Lewis Pflugerville

LB- I like Bryan Parks from RR McNeil more than Marlon Williams from Pflugerville, but maybe thats just me, obviously Mike Leach doesnt agree with me ;)

DB- Reggie Madu Pflugerville Best Defensive player in this district IMO, as a Junior

I think Baron Batch will have a great year at RB but I give the nod to Potts from AHS for QB and Leong from AHS at WR

Defense wise I have to go with Leslie Ray from Lee

Leanderlions3033 i don't know if you go to Leander highschool or not but for starters i'm on the damn football team and i would not say that DREW DUNN is the best player in our district. See the problem with people who don't play football is that u look at people who is first team all district or w/e they are. And u can't go by that my friend. Since u keep talking about Antwan then lets use him as an example. Antwan's talent is First Team All district material but he was hurt. All that crap is, is nothing but statistics bullSH**! My buddy ol pal.And being since i'm on the football team, i can't let u know right now that Travis Njoku is not the leader of the team, its by far DREW DUNN because he has showed good character on this team along with Jason Barnes and Todd Darnell and even Ruben Molina.Oh and i must have to agree with you, cameron Rogers is by far NOT THE BEST PLAYER IN 15-5a my friend lol. Everything i said in my post was strictly an opinion of how i feel our district will go next year. For Travis, by leader I ment most prime time player. When we needed something done late in the season in the clutch, we went to Travis. Drew or Jason would probably be our vocal leader, or considering your on the team and im clearly not, correct me if im wrong. If you think that a healthy Antwan wont be the best rb in our district, you are sorely mistaken, i'm sorry. And Chris Johnson was one of those names that slipped my mind considering he is on one of the cellar teams in our district, the Round Rock Dragons. I think a good majority of the people on this board say that i have a fairly decent opinion. As far as my opinions go, i'm gonna hold strong with what i said. Drew at best qb , antwan at rb, Travis at WR, Derrick Lewis (trying to sound unbiased as possible by not picking Brett Schroeder) at TE, Bryan Parks at LB, Reggie Madu at db, and a healthy Antwan Cobb at rb. Saw Vondrell yesterday and he looks like he has put some muscle on. I bet he shatters Talley's rushing record this year, missed by about 30 yds last year. Saw Ivory also....dude is looking like a beast. I think he is the best fullback in the state also. Not saying that one player is better than the other. I honetly think both are bigtime. But Rclisle41, you cant take stats vs Team A or Team B into account like that. Longview has alot better supporting cast (Team) to help Mcgee . Goodson doesnt have the supporting cast. I"m sure if you put Goodson on Longview's team he would of put up better numbers against Lufkin. :)

V-mac is no joke and should not be sold short...one minute Longview, as a team is a joke, the next minute, no one has a supporting cast like Mcgee...does it really matter, Mcgee is a great back 18 carries against a great Lufkin team for 185 yards...that is ten yards a carry...one game he carried the ball 9 times for 269 yards, you do the math...however it helps when you have a beastly Fullback like Ivory who in his own right sports a 4.34 forty...I agree the Lobos have more than any team in the state in their back field, i just wish we could get a passing game...

PS...look at Mcgee against division 1 state champs Tyler Lee with his 90 yard run...this was the Tyler Lee team who lost to Lufkin and Euless trinity with their starting linebackers out against those team yet they were full up against Longview...Look at the clip under special season preview trailer...and then tell me what you think of Vondrell Mcgee

You are in the minority. Anyone who has seen him play will tell you he is a great RB. You will probably see him toting the ball for the Longhorns in a couple of years. He will have 2500+ yds this season and do it playing some of the best defenses in Texas and the top two teams in the state of LA.

I give the nod to Michael Goodson for our district, with a close second to Kyle Drabek, and a third to Dez Bryant. Dez will be a huge surprise to this district - nobody saw him last year.

I think Leonard Hewitt will have a good year, but hard to predict he has 11 picks again. But, if he has 5-7 picks, with a couple for td's, and returns a few punts back big time - I may reconsider. I am a bit concerned about Leonard returning full form from his knee injury.

favpack you are forgetting mandela roberts!! he will be an absolute terror at lb this year. aj penson has a great chance of putting some serious numbers up along with hewitt. it will be harder for hewitt considering a lot of teams will throw away from him but not for penson. many do not know him yet so he will not see the double teams. next year he will be doubled almost all of the time similar to mckinner dixon last season. he has that much potential in my opinion.

Mandela Roberts will have a huge year - no doubt. Top tackler at lb last year on a very good defensive squad - this dude was on the 4x100 relay team that was not hurting for speed (Dq'd at district). Mandela is extremely smart, overly-nice to everyone (always the class favorite), and is a joy to be around. I've really enjoyed watching him grow up from the 2nd grade on.

Of course, between the lines, I'm sincerely hoping he doesn't decapitate someone this year.

If EJ can redevelop his straight forward at mach 5, fearless approach - he will be lethal. This guy could easily return 5+ kickoffs for TD's.

KT2000
08-08-2005, 04:06 PM
How long into the season before EJ takes over full time at RB. From what I've seen on video and in person, I don't see why you wouldn't give that guy the ball at least 15 times a game. Injury problems, afraid of contact...? I'm certain it's not a talent issue, lol.

Favpack
08-08-2005, 04:28 PM
KT -- wouldn't call it afraid of contact - but EJ is simply not a between the tackles runner. As a soph. he played tandem back with Jorvorski and was very potent on the option pitch - you'll probably see that wrinkle a few times. Personally, I'd love to see the forward shuttle pass out of the spread like Utah did in the Fiesta Bowl - that play has EJ all over it.

I doubt he'll get 15 touches a game on the O side - but, he'll get a fair share for sure.

KT2000
08-08-2005, 05:04 PM
Reggie Bush isn't a between the tackles runner either, but he manages pretty well with the way they move him in and out of the backfield. It's amazing to me that Lufkin is so deep in talent that a player like EJ can't get 15 touches a game on average. If I'm Lufkin, I line him up in as many spots as possible whether it be in the backfield or out wide. Also, he'd be really dangerous in an H-back position and create mismatches...endless possibilities with shifts and motions from that look.

You could be right. I have trouble remembering #7 won't be getting 20 or so carries a game - lol.

But, the more the ball is spread, the more lethal EJ becomes. I certainly plan on seeing him run back kickoffs, Hewitt will handle the punts - that's enough right there to make most opponents hold their breath a few times a game before a snap is taken.
