Enough with all the posts about where former players are playing, who's got scholarships, why we dye our hair blonde and national polls!!!! Let's talk some football!!

Any thoughts out there on the Midland Lee game later this month? Predictions?

SLC by two TDs. Lee coach Randy Quisenberry may be one of the best offensive minds in the state, but his defenses suck and they always have. I'll be rooting for Lee, but until Quiz shows me that one of his teams can play defense, I wouldnt put any money on them.

I agree. Most teams would hang quite a few on Midland Lee, win or lose.

edit: I also agree that this forum should start talking nothing but football. Offseason is over!

My gut feeling is SLC will win big, maybe not as big as last year but big nevertheless.

From what I understand, no. The picture may be a little clearer after 7 on 7, but I dont think there is any clear starter... one more reason I fear SLC may win. I saw just a little bit of their QBs during 7 on 7 and while they do trow the ball better than last year, they arent near the athletes that Jamie McCoy was. I think you'll see defense key in on Trent Hines more which will put more pressure on the QB and passing game. Again, Quiz and Jay Clark are two of the best offensive minds around so I think they'll get that offense going nicely before all is said and done, but I dont know if they'll be ready by that first game.

JTK thanks for the info.........You are right, if they can't generate a passing attack, it will be that much tougher for Mr. Hines to get his yards.

I think 7 on 7 is a terrible barometer to show how well a team will be. The biggest reason is because its touch football. We have many players who can make moves to avoid being tackled. Also, most teams don't run their actual plays, they just run plays specifically made for 7-on-7(mainly crossing patterns). 7 people are on the field instead of 11, no pass rush, and no contact can be made.

Lee pretty much held Abilene High in check last year.

It's not being used to tell how good a team will do. In Lee's case, it's being used to help find a QB that works well with the other skill players. This is where I think 7 on 7 is great. In the past, Quiz has used 7 on 7 to help learn what his QBs can do when facing talent from another team they have never seen before. He did this while at Cooper with Will Galusha in the Summer of '02 and the very next year with a soph. named Chris Hall who ended up starting most of that year and has been our starter since. 7 on 7 will never tell you how good a team will be, but you cant place a value on it when you are looking for a new QB.
