Michelle Wie withdrew from her attempt to qualify for the PGA golf tournament in Illinois this week because of heat exhaustion.
she had played an exhausting 5 weeks in a row!(ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)It's golf for crying out loud. 4-5 hours a day is a stretch!

the high was 88(ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) My employees work in trucks that consistently get up to 140 in the afternoon, not to mention the fact that it gets a lot hotter here in Texas and I see plenty of folks out on the golf course regardless.

Does anyone dare explain this one?

Give me a freaking break!

Maybe she gave up because she knew that she couldn't make the cut. FAKER!!!

Maybe, in what was supposed to be the easiest tournament for her to qualify, she played horrible. That was such a weak field on such an easy course and she played like well...a 16 year old girl

she needs to spend some time in the lpga exclusivley, build up some pro game, confidence, and when shes in her early to mid 20's when she should be in her prime, then go try to make the cut. Right now shes just a circus act which sucks because im rooting for her but thats what this stupid crusdae to make the cut has become.

actually what she needs to do is go to High School, become captain of the golf team, lead them to state and then go to college, lead that team to a nat. championship, and then go to the lpga. You know, that way she has some sense of normalcy in her life, because I'm sure what every 16 year old girl really wants to do is make the cut in a pga tournament

Amazing to me how anti-success people can be. First, there is not a 16 year old boy on the planet that could consistently hang with Michelle - deal with it men. Second - she has come agonizingly close to making a cut in the past -which again, is unheard of -- she does much better with the men than the no. 1 female golfer in the world who is twice her age - Annika Sorenstam.

Clearly this was not her best week. Who knows what caused the heat exhaustion -- could be food, weather, her period, a host of things that could have happen.

Do I think it's a wise move for her - no, and I was against her turning pro. But, I'm not going to sit here and tell her what to do. 99% of female golfers are jealous of her - period - thus, they speak negatively.

But, Michelle will compete with and beat a ton of men before it's all said and done - deal with it men.

my initial post is not about gender, it is about pro athletes being unprepared, if golfers are even athletes.

if women need to be on the PGA, disband the LPGA and get it on. I'm all for it.

i am two people short right now... long story. But to answer your question, yes and as recently as two weeks ago, ran 2 routes in one day.
I was a route man before I got promoted, and I work circles around about 90% of my employees. I use hands-on leadership to get things done. my workgroup knows I won't ask them to do what I cannot. I don't ask them to do a lot of what I can.

Cool I do the same, it helps with morale if they see their reports get down and dirty with them.

I wonder where her home state is? because it seems like any Texans can play golf in 100 degrees outside without complaining than the ones in the North and West. I have no problem playing golf in 110 degrees without complaining but get sweaty whole alot which is not a problem either. Almost all Texans should get over with that in that kind of weather because they are used to it.

You guys seem kinda bitter about this. Sounds like some people are pissed that a 16 year old girl can kick their *** in golf?

And also does anyone realize that she hasn't really had a SINGLE DAY OFF in about 2 1/2 years. She is 16 years old! She has been going non-stop since that first PGA tourny at the Sony Open.
As a golfer at the age of 16, you could not have payed me to play a tournament type atmosphere for a single week in the middle of the summer. The enviorment is just straight up tiring.
Camillio Villegas, possible ROY candadite on the tour said that his rookie season has been completly hectic and he can fully understand how Michelle fell victim to heat exhaustion, as he was playing this week also.

I got respect for Michelle, and damn I am going to feel sweet redemption when she makes the cut at the 84Lumber Classic later this year.

That just goes out to all you haters

As usual, it's my job to bring some historical facts to an argument, so here goes.

The PGA is designed to be a tour of the best golfers in the world. There are no gender guidelines in the rule book, never has been. It's just that historically, women haven't been able to compete with men. Then comes the LPGA, which IS a gender specific golf tour for women ONLY. It was created for women, who obviously couldn't compete with men. Over the years, more women have refined their game and started strength training, and a few have gotten to the level where they can drive the ball and play a power game at or near the level of men. It's only logical that they would eventually try to ply their trade on the "mens" tour where all the big money is, especially since there are no rules restrictions against their playing there.

Let's not fool ourselves, the vast majority of female golfers can't hang with the top 500 male golfers in the world. The men are just too strong and hit the ball too long for the women to compete. However, there will be women who dedicate their training to become competitive with the men. Wie is a genetic freak at 6 foot tall and only being 15 at the time she went pro. She has the height and body to drive the ball long off the tee. She is only going to get better and at 16 years old, is already freakish in her accomplishments.

Also, her management team has used her uniqueness to maximum effectiveness. Her endorsements have already made her so wealthy that she will never have to work a day in her life, already at only age 16.

Sorenstam kicked the door open. She doesn't try the "mens" tour anymore because she played it and realized that she isn't long enough off the tee to compete. Michelle is long enough, so she has run through that kicked in door. She won't be the last, now that Pandora is out of the box. Get used to it.

I totally agree.
It is only a matter of time before she makes a cut, and the LPGA in general becomes a more popular tour.
This may sound somewhat gay, and I am willing to take the criticism for it. But I would rather watch an LPGA tournament then some small-market tournament in the PGA. Dont take that the wrong way. There is nothing I like more then what I will be doing for 4 days this week. Sitting on my couch with a beer and watching the British Open.
Like this week, the GORGEOUS Natalie Gulbis brought it down to the wire, and ultimatly lost in a playoff. The LPGA is full of young promising players. And Michelle is one of them. As for her playing in PGA events. I cant really argue it. It brings in revenue, and more attention to the less-known tournys. I think it is pretty cool what she is trying to do. But at the same time I would like to see her work her way into tournaments by having to compete in a Monday qualifer like everyone else.

I remember back in the 1990’s some friends of mine who were soccer players came to Texas from Missouri, it was a nice 88 degrees outside and they were hurting. They just were not use to our kind of weather.

I look at her tournaments in 2 ways:

She is doing something on the men's and women's tours that no 16-year old can do. She's the best 16-year old in the world. It hasn't won her a tournament, but the odds are that it will pretty soon and she'll be unbeatable by women when she does. She's already one of the best women's golfers in the world and will keep getting better. I think she does more good by competing at the highest levels vs. beating people she knows she can beat. ONE day, she will make a men's cut, but I don't know that she'll ever be a threat consistently over there. It's fun to watch her and the PGA Tour will keep giving her chances because they make money and that's the bottom line.

On the other hand, she's not competitive against men yet. They shouldn't play it up to being bigger than it is. She's not ready yet, but she might one day.

Well said L-man. Just amazes me that people don't give this kid more respect. I just don't get it - I admit it. Find even a 17 or 18 year old boy in the world that competes with her.

just like darts or pool, if you can get drunk and be better at it, then it's probably not a sport
