View Full Version : Arlington Bowie - 0-10 again in 2005?

It could be REALLY nasty this year for the alma mater.

Non-District:

LD Bell should be decent.
Tyler John Tyler brings in a new coach.
Corsicana is it's usual 4A butt-kicking self.

So in district:

Lamar is 20-0 vs Bowie all time -- I smell 21-0
Arlington was the only team to lose to Bowie last year -- think not in '05.
Cedar Hill is nearly as good as Lamar.
Duncanville is a perenial BHS bulldozer and nothing should change there.
Desoto - Bowie once got with 21 points of them 8 years ago.
Martin - on the rise and pushing the top 4. BHS no threat.
Sam Houston - should be weak this year, but Campbell's even says BHS will fall to them.

So another fruitless season at BHS despite having one of the most talented QB's in the nation with Sherrod Harris.

After 5 years of producing consistent Division 1 NCAA talent, you would think BHS would have had one season of winning. It all boils down to coaching. Most would trust the powers that be would be trustworthy enough to select a coach that would provide the kids the best oppurtunity to grow as men and win. But apparently, going 12-38 with 5 district wins in 5 years is acceptable for Bowie. I wonder if the same would be tolerated at Desoto? Duncanville? or the Lamar Empire?

Yeah I am bitter about having NEVER seen my alma mater do squat. Sometime I wish I could seperate myself from supporting the team, but I can't, because I want to be able to say I was with them the whole way should they ever do the unthinkable and just make the playoffs one time.

Someone please kick me in the teeth.

We were terrible last year.

Terrible.

3-7, the teams we beat were a combined 8-25. Toss out the fluke that was Irving(we beat them because they were all hungover on a Saturday Afternoon), combined record was 2-20.

And we beat you guys 51-28. It was 28-0 with 4 minutes to go in the 1st quarter.

That shows how bad you were last year.

But you guys ruined our season. We(our seniors last year actually) thought that we were so good, so awesome, because we killed Grapevine/Martin in scrimmages and waxed Bowie. This caused the team to get cocky, miss practices and workouts because of it. But the next 3 games we got our ***** kicked and back to reality on the road to a long and tough season.

This year, I know just because of last year that we are going to get cocky and think Bowie is a breeze to beat. But you never know what can happen. No one expected us to beat Irving last year, or for Bucknell to beat Kansas. Even though our team is much improved from last year and majorly under rated, I still think Bowie can provide a test. But I just don't see us losing the game to Bowie in Week 1.

Edit: I think Anthony Criss is a good coach. He was in the newspaper this morning and has coaching run through his blood in the family. But I work with plenty of Bowie kids and they aren't good people. Drugs, alcohol, gangs, knife or gun fights, drug trafficking, all that goes on pretty bad at Bowie and I think that is a bigger reason than coaching. Although Sherrod Harris I know isn't into that stuff.

yall got all cocky about pointless scrimmage games?? and it caused you to get a big head??

CCDawgs05,

That is probably the best and craziest game Bowie ever played. I was there. It was a great win, but kinda flukey. I remember the guy from Cove intercepting the ball, and then fumbling it trying to return it, which set Bowie up 1st and goal at the Cove 9 with 6 minutes to go in the 4th. Bowie gets a TD, and gets the onside kick. Ties to send the game to OT, and then the Cove offense went dead in OT. It was REALLY weird. CD Moss was great through 3 quarters, and then BHS somehow figured it all out, and got a bunch of breaks.

Cove taught BHS a lesson in '03 though. I think BHS only scored a touchdown on defense.

Commenting on the crime issues alleged at Bowie,

Bowie has a lower crime rate than Sam Houston or Lamar. In addition, Martin High school is suprisingly the school that leads the AISD with drug related incidents and arrest. But that does not make any of those schools bad schools either.

I don't buy into the theory that Bowie is just a bad school. I think that assertation is ridiculous.

A few years ago the media made a cafeteria fight into a 'riot at Bowie High School' . The kids that saw the incident, including my sister, said that the school officials and the police overreacted.

But what does any of that have to do with football anyways? A good coach can influence his kids to stay out of trouble to keep their roster spots. Can he not?

It's tough seeing your team lose like that.

I remember when Victoria would kill everyone in district...lately we have been having to EARN those wins. :p

It may be less than I thought but the Bowie students where I work are always talking about that kind of stuff.

Yes the scrimmages caused us(not me, mainly last years seniors) to get extremely cocky and over confident. The missed practices, lack of effort and undevoted attention ruined the season.

I remember We(duncanville) beat Bowie 63-0 my senior year. They had some cute cheeleaders that year......that counts for something.

haha try having to deal with this...

my freshman year- garland goes 15-1 and wins state

my sophomore year- garland goes 9-2, loses to North Mesquite and Allen in bi-district

my junior year, all the garland coachs left GHS to coach at Allen, who just beat us. garland goes 0-5 (though takes Mesquite to double OT, the skeeters won state that year) and end up the season 3-7. How freaking sad.

senior year went 10-0, then lost bad bad bad to longview 45-0. What a crazy 4 years.

Garlandredraider,

I also remember that the 1999 Garland Owls beat South Grand Prairie on account of a HOORBILE botched spot on 4th down in the semi-finals. I was a neutral observer, and it disgusted me. They should have check referee residency after that game.

Go ahead and keep the trophy. We just need for there to be an asterisk added to the record.

So Vols4Ever, are you going to attend the game vs. us at Maverick Stadium September 2? It will be our first real game and you guys will already have played a game.

I liked your band last year, much more respectful to the team than ours, your band actually played songs, and the songs played were awesome, and actually played more than 2 quarters of the game.

I still think we will win but I want you guys to put up a good fight so we don't get air headed like last season. One thing is for sure, 2 good quarterbacks will go at it.

I am not going to EVER knock the LD Bell band.
Their UIL championships and tradition speak for themselves. It is the HARDEST band to even be a part of. I know they take it VERY seriously over there.

You might have liked Bowie's band, but the Bowie band folks I know are ALWAYS in awe of the mighty Blue Raider band.

I do not think I will make that game this year. I will be attending more Justin Northwest games.

Every other band is in awe of our band. It's just that our whole football team can't stand our own band and we kind of hate eachother in a way. They are always making fun of us because they win and we lose, and how they act like friday night football games are Band Competitions and not Football Games. The reason they are there mainly is to support the football team, not compete. We just don't understand them taking off the 2nd and 3rd quarters of each game to "practice and rest", not showing up to one of our games(Irving), leaving at halftime at one game just to sit in a bus for the 2nd half(Trinity) and come back out to play the alma mater, leaving in the middle of the 3rd quarter(Coppell). Our last pep rally was a band pep rally and not for the football team, and our whole team turned our backs towards them when they were being recognized.

The best band I have ever seen is The Woodlands. Spring is good too.

yea LD Bell Band is good, its pretty obvious how serious they are. us (dragon band) are serious, but nowhere near that extent, we let everyone march, and there is noooooo wayyyyyyy we compete with our football team, first off, wed lose terribly in that department, and the director says how were there to support the team and stuff along those lines

BHS..im sorry your bad does not support you...i cant understand the teams frustration..

but i know for a fact that we love our band...coach dodge may ask them to play a certain song and they do it...we can always count on the band to be there for us every friday night they are apart of it as much as we are...i just feel bad at the fact that they support us so much and we never really go and support them at their competitions but i hope that the dragon bands knows that their football players love em.

Wow... I seriously didn't think you guys were going to go 0-10 this season, I thought you could pull off a victory.

But with Sherrod Harris out for many games, it may become a reality. At least it makes our game vs. you guys easier :(

I saw LD Bell and The Woodlands at the same competition...The Woodlands was better. LD Bell was good no doubt...but I thought they were overrated. There were many other bands there that were better. LD Bell's name just gets the attention of judges and points.

And I am sure the Woodland's Band doesn't try to actually compete vs. their own sports teams.

Don't get me wrong, I try to appreciate our band along with the rest of our football team. We know they are good and all, but due to the constant bull s*** they give us morning noon and night, it's like a chore.

I know they are a very good band. I did state that. As a former band person myself I know when I see a good band and I also know when I see bands get screwed over because of all the "political" bs that even happens at band competions LOL...LD Bell could be marching and screw up bad but still advance to finals round just because they are "LD BELL"....get my point?

This was 2 years ago so maybe they are much better now. Hopefully.
