I thought I'd throw this out to everyone to see if you've heard of this accomplishment. Fort Hancock has five titles in 6-man, but they won 4 in a row between 1988-1991. When I was out in Fort Hancock in June, I read the plaques at the school that show the coaches and players for all 5 title teams. There were 2 players who played on all 4 title teams from 1988-1991.

Have any of you ever heard of other players who were on varsity for state championships all 4 years in high school? The pool of eligibles is very limited to Sealy and Celina or players who transferred at some point in high school.

One comment and one question for you lonny:

The fact that 2 players were on all 4 state champion teams, while incredible, is also very believable and almost understandable given the nature of 6-man football. It is not completely unusual for freshmen to play on 6 man teams due to the obvious limited number of potential players involved. Ft. Hancock was the Odessa Permian of 6-man football during the same time OP was still on top. Phenomenal run of titles for Ft. Hancock no matter what the level.

Since most people have NO IDEA where Ft. Hancock even is I am guessing you were going out to El Paso and saw the water tower from I-10 and stopped. Aren't you in the USAF or are you Army? If you are Army I figure you had a TDY assignment at Bliss in El Paso but not sure why USAF would go out there. Or was it you being the consummate high school football fan that you are, you had to see Ft. Hancock for yourself? Just wondering... :D

I'm in the Air Force and like it in El Paso, but hate that the drive is so long. This particular time I had the girls with me and I wanted to finish doing the stuff in El Paso that I hadn't done before.

I wanted to take the girls up on the aerial tramway, but I also ended up torturing them by hiking up Mt. Cristo Rey. They have a big staue of Jesus on top of the mountain, but there are no bathrooms, the hike is long, and there aren't good places to rest or get good shade. The Hueco Tanks that create a forest in the desert are cool and I was finally able to go to Rocketbuster Boots and see the largest cowboys boots in the world at over 5 feet tall. Since I was there in the daytime, I went on Ft. Bliss and saw their museums.

I had been to El Paso not too long before this trip and I drove by the water tower and kinda got a glimpse of it in Fort Hancock, but didn't turn around because I was hurrying to get to EP. I knew they had won multiple football titles, but didn't stop on the way back out to SA since I needed to be there to get the girls. On previous El Paso trips, it was always late when I went by there or I didn't see the tower. I made sure I stopped on this last trip, but I also made sure I finished going through all the small towns coming out of El Paso toward Sierra Blanca. It's common for me to drive by the schools and stadiums of teams that win titles. It's also common for me to do it with teams that catch my fancy like the Roscoe Plowboys (with the plow at the stadium) and Jim Ned.

Nice info. Lonny. I wonder if we give Cedric Benson and Midland Lee due credit for 3 in a row. That would certainly compare since we're talking 5a compared to 6 man. As hard as it is to believe that Cedric won it as a sophomore -- you'd simply think a dip in talent would occur at some point and someone else -- ala Northshore -- would have a once in a lifetime team to knock them off.

For the record, the players names were Tim Rose and Robert Hinojosa.

The three in a row in 5A is quite an accomplishment. There were a good number of Fort Hancock guys with 3 titles, but I bet there are a good number of other guys in the state who've also done it.
