Would you like a Class 6A?

Would you like some form of instant replay inserted at the high school level?

What would you like to see changed in Texas HS Football?

Every year in the semi's the Region I Champ faces Region II and Region III faces Region IV....maybe they could switch it every other year...Have Region I face Region IV and so on...that would be interesting.

Yeah, it gets boring seeing Region III and Region IV every year...it would spice it up if Judson and Midland Lee could possibly meet in the Semi's instead of the Final....know what I mean?

Yep, it gets boring beating Ike in the semi's, maybe we could beat them in the finals for a change. :)

I gots to agree one the single state champs.. And the switching of the brackets might make for some dream type matchups. I don't think replay is needed in the High School game. Then again most of the newer stadiums have it anyways. As for the band and Drill team suggestion I thyink every school should have a special area out of the stands for these people. That way they are not taking up space that could be given to people who are actually there to see a football game and not a concert.

Yes, no, and yes.

I'd love to see the D1 and D2 respective Champs face off. I mean how interesting would it have been to see SLC and Tyler Lee go at it? Not to mention the additional revenue this type of game could provide.

I think the instant replay is a good idea, but like all forms of justice, they'd take forever!

Only the top 2 teams in each district make the playoffs

But isn't it soon to be the top 3? I've always thought only the district winner should go to the playoffs. The district title is trivialized when the second place team also goes. One year in the Houston area (1998?) Pearland made the playoffs as the 2nd team in their district with a 2-8 record. I think you should at least be over .500 to get into the playoffs.
Just my opinion.

I want the top 4 to go because some of the stronger districts have 4 or more top teams. There are a lot of weaker districts that don't deserve 2 spots.

What's a bigger crime, letting a bad team have a chance to win in the playoffs or not giving a good team a chance to move on?

I have to say let 128 in the playoffs because I watch 6-4 and 7-3 teams in 26-5A go 5-2 in district and miss the playoffs every year.

What kind of silly question is that?!
There isn't any crime being committed. You reward excellence with a trip to the post season. You don't send teams into the playoffs because someone wants to see them. Letting a bad team into the playoffs to "have a chance to win" is one of the sorriest and weak excuses I've ever heard. What's the point of winning District in your scenario?

4 teams in the playoffs is a joke only when you have a sorry district. I can't help it I've gotten used to the best district in the state. 26-5A deserves 4 teams in the playoffs. Some other districts barely deserve 1 spot. The alternative to this whole argument is to do like Louisiana and have a power poll determine the spots. Some districts would get more and some would get less. 26-5A would've had 6 of the 96 spots last year if they used a power poll.

4 teams is a joke period!! and lmao at the power poll. 115a east texas had 3 top 10 teams all at once a few years ago and they have done that several years and i still think 2 teams is plenty. in fact, 125a east texas had 4 teams all in the top 10 at once in the mid to late 90's. if you cannot make second place in your district then well too bad you do not belong in the playoffs. just because a few districts have exceptions does not mean we should water down the playoffs with joke teams. the regular season should still have meaning and with 4 teams going to the playoffs it does not have much. sad actually!! it is all about the $$$$$

I guess we're on the same page, Pack. If you can't win district or be runner up...too bad. Don't care how good your district is. If your district is awesome then the top team or top two teams would be the better representatives in the playoffs.

2. Instand replay (if it goes against tradition, why not go back to leather helmets, if its available, and it helps use it.)
3. More games on TV
4. NO MORE RICK RENNER, or however he spells his name
5. NO team that is 3/7 making the playoffs. It happens.

there are going to be several more 3-7 teams making the playoffs next year. it will probably be common.

Fleeman93
08-02-2005, 10:08 AM
In my opinion having four teams make the playoffs will only change the fact that D1 will have an extra week of football. Yes, there will be sorry *** teams making the playoffs and the extra week for D1 will create injury risks, but D2 already deals with that. I don't really agree with it, but it will be here to stay for at least a couple of years. With that said, I would like one division for each classification. I would like to see the final four teams in each classification seeded as to have 1 play 4 and 2 play 3. You could use a point differential or some other predetermined option as the tie breaker in the event of ties on records. In either case you are going to have to beat 2 of the four best teams in the state to win the title.

keep the no pass no play rule
sure its a pain in the rear whenever one of your star players flunks out for a big game, but how else are they gonna learn integrity?

hs football, in all its mass complexities, it all comes back down to teaching young men how to be respectable and dignified adults, right?
