i was watching some videos on SLC on insidetexasfootball.com and i noticed that most everyone on the slc roster has their hair dyed blonde why is this, it some dallas/fw north texas suburban fashion or a team thing?

It's a post season (playoff) football team unity thing. (Although, I know of one 4X400 team that did it also) It's done by the players, for the players, and for no one else.

it's a po thing. seems like it has been going on since dodge got here, but maybe the year after. nothing like 12-15 big ole boys in your house with their dye stinking up the air and arguing about the different kinds of dyes. it may not set them apart as much as they'd like, but they seem to have had some little success doing it so i suspect you'll be seeing it again in november and december.

hahaha a montrose thing...funniest reply ever.
well ive never seen a football player ever in katy, texas or galena park by north shore and they've had their share of football glory in 5a texas football themselves.
must be a dallas thing, but down in houston its just a, in eagleike's words, a montrose thing.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that. It's not like they patented it or something.

My senior year the baseball team shaved all their heads, looked stupid, but whatever floats your boat.

I'd say it's a unity thing, not an SLC thing.

Considering it had been done approx. eleventy-billion times before they did it...I'd say it's hardly a SLC thang. And while we are on this subject...can we stop with the t-shirts that have the word "thang" on them...(Lufkin included) it's tired and stupid.

It's all about tradition. I think people make too big a deal about it. I agree with a SLC poster that if they weren't who they are and haven't had the success they have had, nobody would care. I personally thought it was kind of neat see all of them look the same.

yeah, and surprisingly enough, it usually turns out to be one of the black players. i can't say as i blame them. as bad a look as it is on the white guys, there is almost no way to carry it off if you are black. even the worm couldn't do it. every one seems to handle it ok, but i feel bad for the odd guy out in this situation. i guess in reality, the black kids at slc grow up understanding about being in the minority more than in most situations. there has never been any racial insensitivities that i have witnessed, but the numbers speak for themselves. one of my middle son's best friend signed with southern to play baseball, but couldn't handle the transition very well. it was tough going from being one of the only black kids in an all white school to one of the only "white" kids in an all black one. he's doing ok now as he's finishing up his assoc degree before heading to texas state.

I know southlake Carroll has very few if any african american players year in and year out, but i know Nate Newton's son is black (obviously lol), so do the black athletes at SLC dye their hair as well. Because everytime i've tried to picture it, it looks more and more ridiculous. I know its a team unity thing, but white people can pull this type of thing off. If Dallas Carter's entire team grew out an afro, this would be something SLC wouldnt be able to pull off. Please tell me that i'm right when i assume that the african american athletes do not take part in this bleaching of the hair?

I dont think green hair dye is allowed at school, and who would want to have green hair for 6 weeks???? Also try and find a green hair dye that last more than a day.

who cares? blonde hair - all bald - this has been going on for many moons. UNITY - and although some of these green bloods convince themselves they are the trendsetters - they aren't. I mean you just know that this year when SV is running through DII and they all go with black hair some greenblood will get on here and say how they are copying the Dragons. WHATEVER.

Not that it seems to matter to most of the “fans” on this thread, but the player( you speak of)’s dedication to the team was never questioned by his teammates. He was a team captain. He decided to rehab a torn up knee, and wore a brace in the last 9 games of the ’02 champ year. Only having knee surgery after his HS career was over. The college he was interviewing for was Princeton. He was accepted there and played his freshman year on their football team. He has since decided to give up football, but this young man will be a major success, in any field of business, he chooses!!!
