View Full Version : UIL New School Eligibility Question???

As mentioned here before, SCUC and Judson ISD's are opening new schools this year, both without varsity football. I'm not sure about Wagner, but Frosh and Sophs in Steele's attendance zone are required to attend Steele. Here's my question:

What happens to 9th or, more likely, 10th graders who are good enough to start or play on varsity? Are they allowed to attend the school they split from and play varsity there? Can they stay at the new school and play varsity at the old school? Or are they simply out of luck and spend a year playing JV at the new school?

Please state whether you are giving the UIL rule or just your "opinion" on the situation. Rocket fans are more than welcome to chime in as well, even though we all know that such a kid would end up playing Judson varsity regardless of something so trivial as boundary lines, even within JISD :D . After all, Judson is an equal opportunity employer...they'll hire any player's parent :D ).

Yeah, and some of the people on the board will also tell you that we have people at Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC) that will ship them into Judson ISD from around the world! :p I knew AFPC was good for something. :D

What exactly do you mean by that, Headliner?

It's a joke.

Recruiting in high school is obviously illegal, but Reagan needs to do something.

They have some talent but are not producing.

Well, I did some research on the new coach - and he was supposedly pretty good in Killeen....and I think we may see better results from Reagan this year - maybe not the playoffs just yet but improvement.

I want to know why Reagan can be good at everything else, but not in football.

Good question - I wanna know, too....

Reagan is very good at all other sports each year.

There is no reason not to be good at football.

They have the talent.

They got a coach that has some credentials.

I picked Reagan 4th this year.

Yeah....I think the new coach will take us to the next level...with it being his second year and everything.

I am from SA Reagan btw.

The hard part for Reagan is that they have to play in a district with Top 10 teams every year.

It will be tough for them to get over the hump with Judson and Smithson Valley in there.

Next year, if all goes like I think it might, and the UIL moves Judson and Wagner into 25-5A since Clemens will be in 4A, then I see SV, Churchill and Reagan as the top programs in 26-5A football.

Yeah, the new coach should have settled in by now and should have the team up and running by now. Judson and SV are in their on little conference in the top two spots in 26-5A....and then third is a toss-up with a few teams. Some kid on another baord is predicting that SA MacArthur is gonna have a good year...

Well, other programs at Reagan have no problem playing aginst other schools course I guess 26-5A isn't as tough in other sports as they are in football.

Mac is still suffering from when Reagan opened up.

When Reagan opened up a few years back Mac and Churchill lost some kids and it seems that just recently, within the last year or year and a half, Churchill's athletic programs have recovered, but MacArthur's have not.

I think Mac is still about 2-3 years away from making any real noise.

And Mac may lose their football coach (Fuschak) to the new school (LBJ). So that may set them back even further.

Smithson Valley shouldnt be in 5A in 2006. I have heard that the new Comal ISD high school's initial enrollment will be about 700-800 students, which would drop them to about 1600 students. So Wagner might actually be in 26-5A in the next realignment.

I heard that Comal scrubbed the idea of building a new high school?

If it's still being built, then when is it's projected date of completion?

Nope, it is under construction right now.

It is called Canyon Lake High School

Look at the pics.

The new high school is set to open in 2006. And it might not even be called Canyon Lake High School after all due to the confusion that is already being caused by the new high school and the existing Canyon High School already in the same school district (misdirected mail etc; identity confusion etc).
Names formally turned down have been revisited as options for the new school name:

North Lake HS
Mountain Valley HS
Fischer HS
Sorrell Creek HS

Sorrell Creek HS

I like that one the best.

Didn't they decide that the mascot was going to be the Mustangs or Mavericks?

I know those were two of the choices.

The Hawks...

And I do hope the name change get approved after all; it gets annoying hearing people say "We played the Canyon Lake Cougars last year", when you know there is going to be a Canyon Lake HS along with a Canyon HS that is already there.

Yeah, that would be kinda weird. Haha, Comal actualy builds in advance while NEISD waits until schools are overflowing to build.

But yeah, I had heard about Canyon Lake and all the controversy surrounding the name....I just heard somewhere they decided not to build it. But Sorrell Creek sounds cool....maybe even Fischer.
