I just read that NBC will be airing the "Friday Night Lights" tv show at 7pm on Tuesdays this fall. At least NBC was smart enough not to air it on Friday nights, when the "real" games will be played.

Should be an interesting show. I'll give it a chance.

Will it be actors playing football players or actual high school football teams, documentary style?

Real is the only way to go for Texas HS Football.

Otherwise, they might as well recruit the "MTV Spring Break" cast, throw in some dessert toppings and be done with it. That seems to be the Hollywood approach on Texas football although FNL was at least bearable despite being almost completely inaccurate.

Classic.

Can you imagine the kind of exposure the athletes would have were it real? You'd have to have a strong program with a coach that can help players deal with distractions.

I'd have to figure the best way to make that scenario work for both the TV and the team would be to pick a .500 school that had nothing to lose.

I agree. those in the know about what happens in real life do not get much from fictional Texas football shows.

D fan II. One thing, you can count on, it won't be documentary style. NBC will show it as a event akin to any soap, except it will be on a high school level. If it were to be a documentary it would appeal to a large audience for a short period of time and then taper off to viewers with interest in high school football. That fan base won't carry it through the 1st season. Adult but young looking professional stars will be used for the adult viewing audience. It will be loaded with those. Short snips of actual games may be used of they may show older wannabes in a actual combat as they did in FNL the movie.

In short some may view it and feel they have gained true insite into the core of Texas High School Football. Some and I think most, will view it for what it is. Playlike, faux, 30 minutes of entertainment once a week with no lasting value whatever.

I'm thinking it will be very little about football, and more about HS drama, boy meets girl, parents are the bad guys, coach is a controlling idiot, pretty boy saves the day type of T.V. junk.

I hope I'm wrong, but don't really see how they can keep the interest of real HS football fans on a Tuesday night without some action.

I wonder how many on this site watch The O.C.? :o I have a feeling that will be the target audience. Hopefully not.

I herd about this show last year i think its gona decent but not real people most likely actors. Though High school is beeing targetted for alot of reality shows lately i know that some school outside of waco is having a special done on them about cheerleading.

I heard the first episode will have a situation similar to that of SA Madison's David Edwards accident that occurred at Westlake in '03. The producer was at the game doing research for the movie and was deeply effected by that incident.

A later episode will have Mack Brown playing the role of an over-zealous parent, Westlake head coach Derek Long doing a cameo as a school board member, and I think the Pflugerville field and coaching staff plays some big cameo roles as well.

didn't i read that the show was being shot outside texas due to the financial deals, that texas wouldn't give them, and other states would.

Don't know about FNL, but have recently learned that numerous t.v. shows have passed on shooting in Texas because of the lack of financial incentives. The numbers are astounding that these big time networks pour into the local economy. As much as 2 million an episode is spent locally to get these programs on the air. Anyway, enough politics....bring on the ball.

Here's an idea: why not broadcast the real thing once a week (not on a Friday Night, of course) from high school games around the United States. Few will compete with the Texas version and some will be downright embarassing (ever seen some New England high school football? - not even played on Fridays in many cases). But that sounds like a whole lot more fun for high school football fans to see rather than what may well prove to be some silly made up soap opera around Texas high school football.

My Name is Earl is like Raising Arizona, but the "Earl" character is not in the same league..it wears on you after about 10 minutes..

What they might could do is put it on in the spring to get all the football junkies their fix during the offseason...

Hmmm must be my moderate democratic nature that draws me to it then, also explains why I felt so heartbroken at the series finale, now I don't even have a fictional democrat to admire
