...with a legal wind (1.8) and a time of 10.23. Link (http://www.deltatiming.com/events/2006/big12/)

For comparison's sake, Michael Huff ran in the 10.5's last year and ran a 4.34 electronically timed 40 at the NFL combine. Keep in mind, too, that Charles only started running the 100m this year...he ran the 110m hurdles in HS.

Supposedly, Justin Gatlin also ran the 110m hurdles in HS and posted a 13.66 which was best in the nation. Charles ran a 13.69, which was also best in the nation.

The crazy thing about Jamaal is that he is a football player who happens to run track...not the other way around.

I knew that when I saw him as a Jr. at PAM that he was a can't miss superstar at RB. I can't wait to watch him run wild this fall.

Hopefully on NCAA 07, he is rewarded with a speed rating of 95-99 :D

I don't get too worked up over 40 times, but I'm dying to see what kind of numbers Jamaal will put up in a couple of years when he's running for NFL scouts.

Consider this... The fastest Reggie Bush ever ran the 100m was in 10.42 seconds. Reggie recently ran a 4.33 for NFL scouts.

I just hope he stays healthy next year.

Did you see him in the Katy vs PAM playoff game in the Dome ? I saw that game and he was great. I never thought I would see someone run like that against Katy.

Yes. I saw that game as well as the game his senior year where he ran around Westfield as if they were a Jr. High team.

Well then thats who i hope gets it. He has rare talent, and i really havent seen anything like him before. Honestly i think he will be a better back then Reggie bush is now. His combonation of speed and elusiveness is amazing, He doesnt have to stop to make someone miss. Another thing is that 2 or 3 people miss before he usally goes down. As you can tell... Im a Fan on charles... Lol

Like someone else said...he's a FOOTBALL player who is a track star, not the other way around. It's a big difference.

I think he'll have a legit chance at the Heisman during his career at Texas. I'm sure he'll make it to New York at least.

His senior year, I saw him run for about 300 yards against my Midland Lee team. Fortunately, since Charles doesn't play on defense, Lee was able to escape with the victory.

The PAM fans had a lot signs in the stands that were "dissin" Cedric Benson, and trying to let UT know that the real McCoy was on the way.

Ramonce Taylor has a similar highlight tape. However, instead of running through the opponents defense........................................... .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ...................you guessed it, he's running from the cops!:D

I hate to burst your bubble but they may have been on to something. For one this guys speed is unbelieveable & his power is respectable(not great), he also picks up the blitzs very well & he is a threat as a receiver(thats were he will be greater than Cedric & AD). And with Ramonce Taylor likely out he'll get his carries & should see a 1500 to 2000 yd season.

Jamaal will never win the Heisman because he will never get enough touches.

Two different style runningbacks. J. Charles is faster and more of a slasher smooth silky runner. Benson is a workhorse, that wont break many long runs but has some power. I still think Benson hits the "hole" faster than most runningbacks I've ever seen.

Benson has a very fast (0 to 40) but it dies out at about 20.

J. Charles is like Eric Dickerson.. they both can run by you going mach-one but you wouldnt even feel the breeze.

Charles is also a very dangerous receiver you can line him up at that position & he can make plays & you can also throw him the screen(just ask Ohio State), but Charles has some Eric Dickerson & some Barry Sanders(not all some).

Gatlin ran a 10.26 to come in second place in the SEC championship meet in his freshman year. Just to show where he was at the same point in time in his track career compared to Jamaal. Jamaal ran that 10.23 at the Big 12 while pulling up at the end. Gatlin went on to run a 10.08 at the NCAA championship meet his freshman year to win.

Jamaal also ran sub 21(I think 20.89) in the 200 meter prelims at the Big 12 championship, this while trotting for the last 15 or 20 meters of the race. He pulled out of the finals, because UT had the meet sewed up and did not want to risk injury for Jamaal.

There's a clip on youtube of Jamaal running at the Big 12 meet. I would provide a link, but youtube isn't working right now. Just search for Jamaal Charles and then sort by date added, it will be one of the first videos.

Do you know if he is running hurdles this year because in HS he was even better in the hurdles than he was at the 100 & 200 meters.

Here's some video of Charles' run...

http://stream.ihigh.com/links/texas/2006/05/2006_0517_TK.asx

What struck me right off the bat is that not only is Jamaal a good deal faster than anybody else, but he is also a good deal larger. You expect to see little skinny guys like Ted Ginn Jr. run that fast, but it isn't often you see a legit RB that can run like that.

you seen Leonard Scott running in the outdoor track season? (probably not, I think I'm the only nerd who watches track).

That dude is big for a sprinter. Of course, former NFL'ers usually are.

Also, Jeremy Wariner ran a strong 200m today, dropping down from his customary 400m.

Anyone else going to be at the track regionals in Austin?

I don't. This is a non-Olympic, non-Worlds outdoor season. Sonya Richards is doing the same on the women's side. It's a great chance for him to try it out. He's got the stamina to not tire in the last 50m of the race. Today when he ran it he got out of the blocks great and ran a fantastic turn.

He's gonna be a great sprinter for years to come for the US, no doubt. He's fun to watch run.
