Just wondering what were the nicest football practice facilites that yall have played at or seen? Ive never seen like SLC or katy's or those other big time football practice facilites. How much do they put into them? I know that at Lubbock Coronado we didnt have anything special. The only thing we had was an indoor turf room...which from ive seen is one of the only ones in our area.

McKinney's is nice from what a buddy of mine who coached up there said. Rockwall's is servicable and nice too!

That's all I know unless you count the gym at Livingston HS.

The nicest I have ever seen in person (on the high school level) is "The Doghouse" at 3A Abilene Wylie. Their indoor facility features half a football field, a walking/running track, batting cages, driving range, basketball/volleyball/tennis court, weight facility and a pole vault pit.

We practice on practice fields right outside the school with crappy thin and dry grass that seems to transform into dust and no fieldhouse, indoor facility, or anything fancy. But whatever gets it done.

wow...thats amazing at abilene wylie. Thats crazy that a 3a football program has those types of facilites. Wish ours were like that.

Our practice facilities consist of cones instead of yardlines and endzones, very thin grass that seems to give you worse turf burn then the actual turf. Thats about it. I don't see why ANYBODY (excluding division 1 and pro football teams) would for any reason pay the extra money for a practice facility. Practice is practice, even if you do have the money to pay for a nicer practice enviornment. Will somebody please explain this phenomenon, the indoor practice facility for high school football players. Have the nicest stadium, theres nothing wrong with that, but why practice.

we're talkin about practice, not a game, not a game, not a game, but practice ;) . (i'm sorry, but after i read my post and realized how much i was complaining about "practice" i figured i had to throw that one out there courtesy of Allen Iverson),

Would you practice football with a soccer ball? No, so why not practice on the real turf if you can. :)

Coppells is exactly like Mckinnys, it had a 50 yard football feild in side called the "Turf Room" we also have one of the biggest weight rooms in the state, it is massive...I worked out there every morning at 6...me and my buddy know it better then anything else in the intire world

Katy's practice facilities consist of a couple grass fields complete with those state-of-the-art "H" shaped goalpoasts. There's a climbing rope, some parallel bars, some monkey bars, some bleachers and a track. Mat drills are done in the gym. The weight room is actually pretty nice.

The first few weeks of my senior year, our locker room was the old junior high basketball locker room and the "weight room" was the basketball court. We used to do mat drills in this little non-air conditioned room adjacent to the pool. Imagine that room in August...with 90%+ humidity outside combined with the oppressive smell of chlorine and added humidity from the pool on top of 100 degree temperatures..."Hey coach, what are all these trash cans for?"

Regardless of Allen Iversons attitude, you have to admit that he doesnt take plays off like other players and hes relentless.

SLC has two fields they use behind the baseball field. natural grass with the lovely "H" goal posts. The indoor field is used during bad weather or when they do not want anyone watching. Various other teams use the indoor as well. I know soccer, golf, and lacross use it as well.

Don't forget the Drill Team and Swim Team.

My son's backside gets a rash when he does the backstroke on the field turf.

Try driving by any HISD school...especially Yates. I think grass by itself would be a big improvment.

Oh, hey, don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not complaining. In fact, we learned to take pride in what we had and what we did. It was a unifying experience.

I wrote that with tongue fimly planted in cheek. I realize that we were fortunate to have everything we did. In reference to the original post, I was just addressing the fact that it doesn't take world class facilities to be successful.

No sweat KTCHAMP...I was actually the one trying to be funny. If I won the lotto..I would take a innercity school(Probably Yates because of it's history and that my cousin actually LIVED in Jack Yates' house that HE built before they moved it to Sam Houston Park) and just put them on par with the outtercity schools. I guess that's a sign of getting older...Players today just don't know how good they have it. When it rained...we practiced in the gym....on the basketball court.

Ok, gotcha :) .

We spent a many an hour running plays in the gym too. That was always kinda weird, but it worked.

Sorry if I seem brash when talking about HISD schools. I just want to see them do better. They have all the talent in the world, they just don't have the coaching, facilities, resources etc. So when a HISD school makes a run like Madison did a few years back and Yates last year(even in 4a) it's that much more impresive to me. Kinda like the way Rocky trained in comparison to Ivan Drago and still beat him.

No need to apologize. HISD and other areas like it certainly have less to work with and it would be interesting to see what would happen if you could truly level the playing field. Since it is impossible to put everyone on that equal footing, I think that the goal should be to do the absolute best you can with what you've got and be proud of that. Believe it or not, we felt that we were better off because we had to work harder and overcome a lack of talent, facilities, etc. as compared to the teams we wanted to beat. On the flip side, there were many teams who probably felt the same way about us. We actually had it really, really good. But, no matter who you are, there's always somebody with a nicer car, a bigger house, better equipment etc. That's why I said we should just focus on making the most of what we've got...I really believe that.

It's funny you brought up the Rocky vs. Drago thing. We actually watched that movie before a few of our games. We were Rocky...or so we thought.

Having said all that...I do enjoy looking at all the new facilities that are going up! I don't think you necessarily need them to be good, but it sure would've been cool to have one!

agreed on all points. :D I went to 3 high schools in 4 years...going from Houston Reagan to Alief Elsik...I was actually mesmerized...no joke. I didnt know what a field house was...Football was a class? Morning practice? Practice uniforms...practice SHOES...lol all that was new to me.
