Headliner or anyone else with solid info...
Any substantial news on what direction Ferrara is taking with the Buffs offense? All I've heard is third and fourth hand reports (I guess you'd call them rumors really :D ) of everything from "definitely more passing" to "hurry up offense".
Personally, I'd be glad to know that Ferrara is aware that:
1. The forward pass is not the anti-Christ,
2. The forward pass CAN be less than a 30 yard or more prayer,
3. Time outs are best when saved for, AND USED, at the end of halves, rather than at the end of play clocks when you can't decide which of your 5 plays to call, and
4. That by licking his fingertip, he can turn to page 2 in the Clemens playbook, no matter how dusty and full of cobwebs it may be! :D (it has long been reported that Clemens players are left scratching their heads as to why they spend time practicing dozens of plays/formations that they know will never be used on Friday nights)
These would all be good places to start, but hopefully Coach Ferrara is well beyond this point. Can anyone shed any light on what we can expect?

dude, that's a bit harsh on your coach. i agree though that some coaches are still stuck in the barry switzer era. at klein collins, we have some of the best offensive talent in houston, but we're stuck in this 1940's (same crap that Rice University runs) offense. Offenses have changed at all levels even over the past five years so i can feel your pain. unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it except just hope that our uniqueness will catch teams offguard

I'll give you 2nd hand info. I'm friends with one of the offensive starter's dad and he talked to the coach about it.
They'll still focus on Henry and feed him the ball. They want good skill players on offense and will spread the ball around, but we all know running will be #1 because Henry is the horse on offense.
They will pass more than in the past and the stupid play-calling is out the door. Lehnhoff would run on 3rd and 20, but that was also about the only time he'd throw, too. Maybe they won't stop running the ball if they get to OT this year like they did against Roosevelt last year.

Actually, when I referred to Ferrara, it was tongue in cheek. He has taken over the program this year and us BuffBackers are hoping he is the long awaited "Moses" who will deliver our offense from decades of bondage under Pharoah Lenhoff.
Thanks for the info Hammer. Any other comments such as base formation, blocking schemes, etc? Do you know if Ferrara and Jinks are free to do whatever they want, or are they subject to pressure and restrictions from above?

This year will be a lot of fun to watch.
When does practice start?

I might dig for some more info. The FB is fast, but he sure isn't in there for blocking. Henry would be a better blocker than the FB. I get the impression that they'll run pro style. It's obvious they'll pass more this year, but they won't forget about Henry. I doubt there are restrictions from above when it comes to gameplanning and playcalling.
I wish Lehnhoff would've coached another year and waited until they dropped to 4A. He had to do something with Steele coming on board, though. I think Arnold was in the same boat with Wagner starting up.
I bet Clemens goes 10-0 this year. They really should've done it last year. They could've played better against Judson, but weren't as good to start with.

Clemens should go 10-0 and have a DOG FIGHT with Judson in round 1.

That's what I said last year and mentioned to Headliner not too long ago. It sure doesn't help them play Judson in Week 11.

no it doesnt and what makes me mad is i think we get ure district next year. Since u will be moving to 4a i think Judson, Wagner, and SV will be in a district with seguin, southwest, east central and whoever else.

Clemens in 4A.
Time to start a 4A dynasty I think.

The bottom line in my honest opinion is that Coach Lenhoff had a certain pattern in mind he would stick to it. He would live by those certain plays and die by them, but regardless, he will always have my respect and will always be one of the best coaches I have even had the honor of being around. I did not always agree with the plays that he called, but he always was able to produce a solid team each year.
With Ferrera in charge now, I expect a lot more passing and a lot more surprises.
Let us not forget that his defensive changes held Judson to negative total yards in the second half of the 2003 victory for Clemens.
Clemens will do great this year. After speaking with some of the players, coaches and others affiliated with the program, I have a feeling. Not like last year or the year before when I got the impression that a playoff run would be the best we could do.
This time I have a feeling that if Clemens does not have any key injuries to their big guns, then they can go far. If the defense is as good as I hear it will be then a state title is not out of reach.
Call me a homer, because I am, but I love Clemens' chances this year.
I also have a feeling about SV.
Take those for what they are worth.
