SEGAL PLANNING A BAYOU POWER PLAY

A league source tells us that agent Joel Segal plans to take the position that tailback Reggie Bush will not play for the New Orleans Saints.

The move, the source surmises, is aimed at allowing Segal to save some face after blowing Bush's shot to be the first overall pick in the draft.

The source also tells us that the Texans opted to tab defensive end Mario Williams with the No. 1 overall pick due to Bush and Segal's sky-high monetary demands. Segal, we're told, wanted $30 million in guaranteed money -- a 25 percent increase over the $24 million in guaranteed money that quarterback Alex Smith received as the No. 1 overall pick in 2005. Although Bush's recent P.R. problems didn't, we hear, play a role in the Texans' decision, word is that the multiple issues regarding Bush and his family caused the Texans to conclude that the fan base would be more likely to accept the decision to draft Williams.

I hope not. Every time Dallas plays New York, I want Roy Williams or somebody to just knock the PISS out of Eli Manning every time he touches that ball. You are being drafted--you are not a free agent. Hell I didn't like this move when John Elway or Steve Francis from the NBA did this crap. Spoiled brats! In the collection bargaining agreement the owners should have instituted a rule that the team that drafts you own your rights to play in the NFL for two years or something to that effect. That's another thing--the NBA has it right on this issue--why are NFL teams ponying up so much money on DRAFT picks?!!! The NBA has a limit to what rookies can make. High picks were not guaranteed so much money in the NBA. I bet the Chargers would have liked to have this rule when they drafted Ryan Leaf.

ok you found the ONE thing the NBA has on the NFL:D :D :D

you are right though. It is alomost like an insurance policy, and it keeps players from skewing the market price on unproven talents.

Manning has the Daddy rule! His dad played for the Aints, and he did`nt want his son to have to deal with what he did. It looks like both NY and SD are better for the move, except SDs rookie (3rd year pro now) has`nt proven nothing yet, thanks to Drew Brees.

If he does that he might find himself out of the NFL.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bush held out. He's asking for $30 million in guaranteed money and Tom Benson is a notorious tightwad.

I heard they flew him down to NO immediately after he was picked.

He has said that he isn't going to holdout and that he will be in camp.

Is this why the Texans didn't draft Reggie? That's alot of dough to ask for without ever having played a single down in the NFL. Good grief!

The Texans said it wasn't about the money. They gave Mario Williams $26.5 million in guaranteed money. John Clayton said on ESPiN that Bush will be lucky to get $20 million guaranteed from the Saints. I don't know if Bush and his agent are going to like that which is why I wouldn't be surprised if they held out.
