I was looking through an old hard drive I have the other day and I found a video that aired on AISD-TV here in Abilene before the broadcast of the 2003 Cooper/Abilene High crosstown game. I thought it was kinda cool and it got me fired up and ready for some football, so I figured some here might enjoy it.

Just a little background on the series leading up to the 2003 game. In '01 Cooper had a good lead with just a couple minutes left in the game before Abilene High mounted an amazing comeback including recovering an onside kick. The game went into OT where AHS won 30-27 on a blocked FG.

The '02 game was the biggest of them all. It was the 9th game of the regular season and both team were unbeaten. AHS was ranked #3 in state and Cooper #5. The game was HUGE. Around 20,000 people packed into a very wet and very cold Shotwell Stadium. The Governor did the coin toss (it was an election year) there were World Series winners on hand... all that crap. Just an epic game. A slugfest that went both ways and ended up in OT. Cooper eventually won the game 37-31 on a Brandon Diles TD run.

Anyway, just click on the link called "Showdown."

BTW, let me know how the video works. I dont have a site to host any videos so I have to rely on other sources.

Excellent video jtk... even though I had to endure the pain of watching that Brandon Diles run that won it in overtime for you guys in 2002. Makes you pine for Friday nights in the fall in a BIG way though, eh.? I tell you what, those that don't live in 2 high school towns just don't get it when it comes to rivalries like this. Everyone has their "rivalry" game (a topic on another thread) but the crosstown rivalry takes 'em all IMHO. And I have had the pleasure (sometimes displeasure) of watching over 30 of them.

ktchamp97: now that you live in Midland, you will get to see TWO great rivalry games this year: MHS-Lee and Permian-Lee. What a deal!! :)
