For the past 2 years in UIL football for Strake the biggest games (not including the playoffs) were not against Katy or their hated rival St. Thomas, it has been against Cinco. 2004 was an upset, 2005 was an upset, what about 2006? The Crusaders have been moved to 17-5A in Cypress but play Cinco in their 3rd non-district game, replacing down and out Baytown Lee as Strake's 5A non district foe. Both teams are playoff hopefuls and major threats in Region III. they both return major role players and in 2006 they play at Crusader Stadium. This is one of the most important games of the season for both teams.
2004: Cinco goes undefeated before losing 3 straight to end the season in the 1st round of the playoffs, losing to Katy, Strake Jesuit and Kempner. Strake only won 1 19-5A game before the upset over the Cougars at Crusader Stadium. Cinco featured Austin Morgan, Quito Teasley and others. It was Strake's first year in the UIL.
2005: Cinco starts to mature late in the season and upsets undefeated Strake at Rhodes to take away a 19-5A championship from the Crusaders (no games for 19-5A during Houston's hurricane scare).

Not sure if this non-district game will mean as much for either team this time, but since I'm picking Cinco Ranch to win 18-5A and be one of the Region 3 title contenders, I'm thinking Cinco will be a strong test and perhaps a tall order for Strake Jesuit. By the way, Strake Jesuit is also playing Baytown Lee who struggled in 2005 but is far from down and out...

1) how are you all-earth, you've been here for less than a year
2) Baytown Lee WAS down and out. They had that 1 good QB and, oh yeah, won the 7 on 7 tournament. now I know that 7on7 doesn't mean anything for the real season so save your breath but still.
3) the tentative schedule has Jesuit playing STH then Lee and Cinco (neutral, away and home respectively) so you're right Drake.
4) this game does mean a lot. to say it doesn't would be wrong anways, but the reason it is big is because cinco beat strake last year to get them out of the 19-5A title and it's the last non district game before 17-5A starts. a win for either team would be a huge accomplishment and a big deal. I would bet that the Chronicle will be there doing a piece on this game.
5) cinco won't win 18-5A. they'll get 2nd behind the tigers whos school name claims the town it resides in, katy. and a region III title?? no way. if cinco would've done it, they would've done it with tealsey and morgan in 04. katy exposed cinco so much that even the worst team in 19-5A besides hastings (at the time), strake, could beat them. don't count out any of the other alief or katy schools, because they all return most players. ironically, the only team that doesn't return a core (I think) is katy.

QUOTING HTOWN:
1) how are you all-earth, you've been here for less than a year
POTENTIAL!
2) Baytown Lee WAS down and out. They had that 1 good QB and, oh yeah, won the 7 on 7 tournament. now I know that 7on7 doesn't mean anything for the real season so save your breath but still.
I saw Lee play twice last year against 2 playoff teams (Strake and Westfield). If you remember they moved the ball quite consistantly against Strake but shot themselves in the foot several times. The game could have been much closer. Against Westfield they actually kept it close for a half and also moved the ball much better than I thought they would against what was then the #1 team in the state. I think it would be a mistake for SJ or its fans to make the kind of assumptions you have about their program. I think we'll be in for a battle when we visit them in the fall.
3) the tentative schedule has Jesuit playing STH then Lee and Cinco (neutral, away and home respectively) so you're right Drake.
:D

I don't see it as too monumental. First, its non-district. Second, with a lot of new faces in key positions, Strake Jesuit may not be as far a long as Cinco is at this point in the season. I don't believe either team is looking for revenge from anything that occurred in the previous meetings, and its the game before district starts. Its not a season defining game for any reason.
Not following your logic. Cinco won't win but don't count out the other schools? I'm picking Cinco because they are slowly but surely putting together an athletic program similar to the Kingwoods and SLC's... Good in every sport. I think they're even catching Katy in football although Katy still has the mental advantage. Last year Katy had an accomplished senior team that was the best in the district, but this year they are beatable. I just think Cinco gets over the hump this year and then it'll be those two schools fighting it out from then on... My opinion, but remember before you rebutt, I am all-earth!

My opinion, but remember before you rebutt, I am all-earth! :rolleyes:You are all Earth because you have over 1000 posts. Remember you have demonstrated that you are capable of picking of loser.
I predict that Cinco beats Jesuit again. Cinco makes the playoffs, but not as the district champ.

Cinco should first focus on getting within 21 points of Katy before they can think about winning district.

the cinco/katy rivalry is quickly (but not that quickly) turning into the katy/katy taylor rivalry. blowouts. remember cinco vs katy 04 at rhodes. the most anticipated 19-5A game to date. 2 undefeateds. new school cinco with their extremely potent offense being a double threat in the air and on the ground featuring stud RB teasley and west coast offense 3 receivers (at least). old school giant pillar of texas football katy hs defending a state title over SLC with a run attack from ohio st bound james aston. rhodes was packed and katy blew them away.
but this year will be different. cinco has an advantage on paper with returning starters (I think, someone clear this up for me please) and katy is coming back from a state title loss to SLC (no shame in that!) and loses TCU recruit andy dalton, 1 big time RB, and all purpose great athlete will thompson. katy returns that 1 RB but I still believe that Katy will take them. History is more reliable than potential on paper.
I do agree with you Drake with Cinco being the SLC or Kingwood of Greater Houston's westside. Track is a 2 time state champion (I think 2, I know 1), basketball was great 3 years ago with 2 colorado st players and rebuilt itself up after just 1 year of being down. soccer is very competitive as usual in the katy/alief district (KTaylor, katy, elsik, used to be 19-5a strake), and football has come a long way since the building of cinco ranch HS.
my realistic prediction right now is 2-1 before 17-5A starts. Strake kills STH (10 years in a row now...), beats Lee and loses to Cinco by at most a TD at Rhodes.

Katy Taylor has great programs in everything but football, so just because Cinco has put together one helluva athletics program doesn't mean jack crap when it comes to football.
I'm not even gonna try and explain the advantages Katy football has over everyone else in the district. You talk of returners and lettermen, but that's not close to being the reason why we own football in west Houston.

Cinco's baseball team is also in first place right now and looks like the favorite to win 19-5A.
It's gonna be extremely hard for Cinco to replace Taylor as Katy's big rival. Too much history between the Katy/Taylor bunch. Especially when Cinco beat Strake last year and said they did it for KISD. Hard to hate a rival like that.
I think the KISD district as a whole has been very competitive with Katy's football titles, Cinco's track titles and Taylor's swimming and tennis titles. The Taylor girls soccer team just won the State Title over the weekend.

Ha! You can thank me HTOWN for jump starting your thread by daring to say anyone, especially Cinco, may challenge Katy for 18-5A supremecy next year.
I agree, until they do it, Katy is king... But WHEN they do it, and they have a great opportunity this upcoming year, they may never look back...
Also, HTOWN, I think it's best SJ and its fans don't take ANY wins for granted, even St. Thomas will be a tough opponent.

What about this running back from Florida that transferred to Cinco this spring? He rushed for 1300 yds last year and is listed on some sites as a college prospect. Maybe he'll make the difference.

This is a Strake vs Cinco thread. Hello Strake Posters - Take your focus off of Katy and focus on what you need to be focused on, or you'll be watching Katy in the playoffs from the sidelines.

I don't really think SJ posters getting back on topic will change that.
Cinco beats SJ again this year, but they still have work to do before they think about beating Katy.
